Alright guys, not really followed SW figures in like 10 years. I'm looking for a Darth Vader in the 6-7 inch scale. Would like to hear some opinions before I go out and buy one. The Hasbro one that came out last year for the 40th Anniversary is perfect in my opinion. A lot of people prefer the imports but I think the Black Series one from Hasbro fits with most other figures and is probably less expensive.

Saw the target exclusive Luke with island base. Would have been tempted if the gave him his darker robes or younger look(ie shorter combed hair) but the only difference from the regular version is this one had a robotic hand instead of gloved. I would have definitely bought a version of him from the Ben Solo Flashback/the final showdown scene where he looks younger. I am not at all a Hasbro Star Wars fan and haven't been a fan of any of their work since 2002-03 but I caved and got this and just hopped in here figuring someone would be talking about it haha. I agree that the dark robes, the flashback, or the final showdown would all be awesome but this one is actually pretty good. The robe looks a lot better when you open it up and mess with it and/or put it back in the box, too. I'd recommend it.

Speaking of Luke in dark robes, the new SHFiguarts Luke looks amazing. Anyone collect these and have any thoughts on it? What are previously released ones that are must haves? Thoughts on these figs overall? I know we're all mostly underwhelmed with them for WWE but curious as to everyone's thoughts here.
Initially these completely dump on most of the Black Series 6-inches to me for sure. Never seen them up close, though.

Likenesses are great and having bonus parts is too, but they feel cheap to me. Plus I’m always one for lots of characters and at $20 each, we get a lot of characters. Price hurts too. I mean, we got a Hasbro Speeder Bike and Biker Scout For $40 and change. Some are even cheaper. Figuarts is close to $200. Why? For some spare hands and a bit more articulation? No thanks. The 6” Scale Tie Fighter was cheaper than that and the thing is HUGE

Pre-orders for the Luke are about $150 though. When you say they feel cheap...do you mean cheaper than Hasbro? That's one of my main issues with their line (pretty much all their lines). Mattel tends to put out pretty solid, well jointed 6-inch figures as WWE and even most of the DCU stuff has proven. Hasbro, be it Marvel, whatever else, seems to be made of flimsy, junky plastic and are always way thin.

The Figuarts to me look skinny and sickly as far as their arms and such go. I know the Figuarts aren’t made cheaply, but they feel cheap. Like they feel hollow when you mess with them. Most of the Figuarts are in that range, but the popular characters were web exclusives, so they are on the 150 range. Talking people like Qui Gon, Ep2 Anakin and Padmé, etc. that’s why the Luke coming out is so expensive; he was a web Exclusive. To me, the Black Series line is the figure line to collect for Star Wars. 6” Scale, decent price point and so many great characters to choose from.

The exclusive Figuarts are cheaper preordered from a Japanese store. Anakin, Padme, and Qui Gon were around $65 + $20 for shipping (3-5 days from Japan). Luke is $62 vs $114 from a US store like Big Bad. The Figuarts feel like they are hit or miss. Today I got Rey, but I'm not that impressed.

Never seen them up close, though. I collect the figuarts line. No they're not cheap but from time to time you can get some decent deals on Amazon or eBay. If you like having the most realistic representation to pose on your shelf, sh figuarts is the way to go. If you want to throw your figs around and play with them then go the hasbro route. Hasbros new face scan technology is an upgrade but it still falls short to SHF because of the plastic used. You also obviously have less articulation. I own about 80% of the SHF line and they were all well with the purchase. Most of my black series I've gotten rid of to make room for SHF. There's a couple of Facebook groups about the SHF Star Wars line where some cool guys discuss things if your interested. I'd say buy an SHF Star Wars figure like farm boy Luke or obi wan or even mace windu and get it in hand and see what you think. My first one was luke a year and a half ago and I haven't looked back since. If you appreciate quality and artistic representation, even at the higher priced point, you'll be satisfied.

Thanks, you're both making pretty good points. I think I'm going to continue cherry-picking from both lines like I do with most toys, but I'm looking to start off with Darth Maul and TLJ Luke and then could definitely see myself with Mace Windu or Anakin-Vader.
Any other favorites you have as a suggestion, either of you? From both Black Series and Figuarts?
I've always wanted 6 inch SW figures and I think this is probably all I'll have to work with in my lifetime ha.

Have they made a 6” Black Series Mace? If not that is probably the last prequel figure I would want besides Padme.
Now I still need to pick up... Lando Snowtrooper At-At Driver Tie Fighter Pilot
And of course the Rebel Trooper and Grand Moff Tarkin when released.

Don't think so. The only one I've seen is the 3.75 with the Jango head.
I'm sad you wouldn't want one, tho, PJ! Mace is a hero!!!

I bought a bunch of the main characters in Figuarts form a few months back and I've got to say ... for me they are a little underwhelming. I don't know why. Something about the faces (maybe it's the face printing?) just doesn't do it for me, though I know a lot of people love 'em. Side by side with the black series they're more accurate but there's something to the "toy" feel of the Black Series even if they're not as accurate. I think I'm going to go back to a few Black Series here and there and save up for Hot Toys somewhere down the line in the far, far away future, lol. (If anyone is interested in the Figuarts loose feel free to send me a PM.)
