I'm lost why everyone hates this and is shocked by it all?!
The Rock more or less told us on Jan 1st that him v Reigns was happening, and it isn't going to happen anywhere else but Mania. So for me whoever won the Rumble was always going up against Seth.
I'd have Cody over Seth, Reigns over The Rock at Mania, then title v title at SummerSlam to unify.
I'm lost to why everyone hates this, Rock/Reigns finishes a 4 year story and is MUCH better than Cody/Reigns, a match I've no interest in.

I'm lost to why everyone hates this, Rock/Reigns finishes a 4 year story and is MUCH better than Cody/Reigns, a match I've no interest in. Because it was a huge cope to say that Cody's WM39 loss was purposeful and he was 100% ending Roman's reign this year as the culmination of some grand story, and act like they weren't saying Cody was 100% winning in LA. Beating off all the contrarians and naysayers, Cody was their hero that irked the "smarks" and came crawling back home, to prove once and for all WWE was where every talent wanted to be. And thanks to new management, Cody wasn't buried in the undercard, he was a "top guy". This might be the first time they're allowing themselves to experience the true WWE ride, full of disappointment, frustration, and disillusionment. And you are correct, Reigns-Rock completely fits in with the Bloodline/Head of the Table storyline they have been crafting around Reigns for 3½ years. The narrative would've been fine if negotiations never came together like the past Mania or two. But all parties are invested now (literally) and tagging this match onto the post-credits scene after CodyWinsLOL wouldn't be as meaningful. To be honest, Cody's story was cold as ice anyway. It would be a straight redux of last year, not a story of redemption where Cody defeats the nightmares of his failure by ensuring the end of his journey isn't plagued with obstacles.

Weird.

He beats Hogans record by Survivor Series so 0 chance he drops it before that.

The Rock is losing. There is no story closure with him. Roman winning and solidifying himself as the “Head of the Table/Tribal Chief”. A HUGE win under Roman Reigns’ belt… which then makes it bigger for whoever eventually takes Roman down (Cody). I still think the right move here is Cody/Roman at Elimination Chamber. Make people in the US want to wake up early for that show.

The outrage is that many many people believed Cody should've won last year at WrestleMania. This year seems like the perfect time to really allow him to finish the story. He's been hinting at it all year. Cody continued a storyline with the Bloodline even after WM39 when he won the tag titles with Jey. He finished the Royal Rumble pointing at Roman Reigns. They just launched a massive "Finsh Your Story" campaign for the next WWE video game that he's on the cover on. Fans have been clamoring since last WrestleMania for the big rematch.
All roads (no pun intended) lead to Cody versus Roman II in the most anticipated match of the last 12 months.
And they have him cut a promo on SD tucking his tail like a b**** and handing his match over to the Rock. After the other world champion Rollins practically begged him to pick him 5 days prior.
Its all weird. Why have Cody even win the Rumble match? Why have him point to Roman? Why wait SO long to insert the Rock?
Part of me thinks this was booked to outrage fans and feed false information through the pay pig wrestling media so Triple H can babyface himself and the company (when they need it the most) and make an announcement that Cody will still finish the story. Whatever it may be -- the story spanning over both nights, a triple threat, whatever.
Its was all so poorly booked and was obviously going to piss fans off -- it almost seems like it was on-purpose, to me. Anything to distract the wrestling world from the real (very very bad) story surrounding WWE right now.
I think the biggest bummer for me is the Rock seems "too little, too late." Can't believe he FINALLY returns for a big match and the most passionate fans could care less because he's slaughtering the white hot top babyface in the promotion by doing so.

Cody had no business winning last year. He returned at Mania 38 and was out most of the year.
Certain people fully expected Cody was definitely going to win the inevitable rematch this year. As usual.. we don’t know the plans, we don’t know if they were changed or why. We know nothing.
Was The Rock the plan, if available? Was Punk supposed to win the Rumble until he was hurt? Did Dwayne use his power to change plans? We don’t know. Dirtsheets don’t know.

The Rock is losing. There is no story closure with him. Correct, winning the belt is closure for Cody. Did you mean at this Mania? If so, why? Well, why this year? Why not add to his story, long story telling is fantastic. The Rock losing is closure to the Bloodline story that has been going on for a few years, closure to Roman’s story as being the Tribal Chief.

Most likely why he lost it a few months later… to Hulk Hogan. Who then lost it a couple months later… to Undertaker. 🙄 You know the rest of that story.

Weird. They were invested in the Bloodline story 100%. But as others have pointed out? Rock has zero to do with the closure of this story...he's just another body to stare at the lights for Reigns...which is 100% what should happen.

Weren't people bringing up The Rock last year, like "Well, Hollywood's on strike. Time to bring him back."
