If you watch wrestling, your a wrestling fan. Ignore the indy marks, they are all 30 yr old virgins. And WWE fans are all 14 year old children. If you enjoy watching ANY wrestling, you're a wrestling fan. Other people are dicks about it whether they watch indy stuff OR WWE. Making fun of someone else and generalizing the age group of them is bull **** and one of the biggest problems on here. If people look down on you, oh well, their problem that they care that much what other people think or whatever. The problem with this topic is people attacking indy fans like some of them will attack WWE fans. Why be dicks about it and do the same? Get over it. Everyone should give other pro wrestling a chance. Whether is be indys, Japan, or Mexico or whatever. Just try watching it and see if you enjoy it. You may actually like it instead of someone people being closed minded bungholes who only watch one thing. That's silly to me. I watch WWE, indys, Lucha, and Puro. I enjoy it all, some people dont. Funny enough, im 17, and im not exactly a child, and im a WWE fan. Im talking about the 'youtube shoot' videos that greasy old jobless girlfriendless sad bastards make, where they diss WWE and its fans. Calling WWE fans not-true fans. Its pathetic. And they must have the social life of a Yu-Gi-oh fan, and for them to insult people like myself because im a WWE/TNA fan, They havent got the right.

I read some of the previous coments, bt not all of them.
Here is my thought on the matter.
If you watch any wrestling at all and ENJOY it, then you're a wrestling fan.
The reason there is a dispute over this is because most people, including the majority of people who posted in this thread, cannot differentiate between a fan, a mark, and a smart mark (smark)
Everyone who enjoys it is a fan. End of story. If you put it on your television, and you sit in your chair, and you watch the product, your a fan. regardless of what your opinion of the show is, or what promotion you're watching.
There is, my mistake, was a difference between marks and smart marks. but the line between marks and smart marks has been getting dustier by the day as of late.
"A mark is someone who will cheer the face, boo the heel and if they're at a show, they will jump out of their seat at the site of John Cena."
The reason thats in inverted commas is because its the kind of thing someone here would say to you.
In actual fact; its total bullChocolate Shark.
I am a smart mark. I have trained to wrestle. I know the ins-and-outs of the sport. i have been watching WWE practically since the day i was born.
However, what i have also learned, is something that most others (including 95% of this forum) have not learned.
I have learned to respect wrestlers.
I can tell you right now that i do not, under any circumstances think that Jeff Hardy is the best wrestler in the world. To be honest: I cant stand the guy. I hate how he has had everything handed to him as of late.
BUT, if i'm at the show, and Jeff Hardy walks out of the titantron, you better believe that im up out of my seat and my throat is hoarse from cheering.
Why?
Because although i dont like his style of wrestling. i dont like him being a champion. I dont like the way he got back into the company. and i do not admire the way he missed so many shows before.
I DO admire the fact that he spent many many years busting his ass to be able to set foot in a WWE ring in the first place.
When i see Kane, i am delighted. His gimmick is awesome in my opinion. I love the attire. But above all else.. his wrestling style appeals to me. I enjoy him.
But if he is a heel, and i'm in the building.. by god i will shout abuse at the man until i cant shout anymore.
The problem with this is that most of the other smart marks (or "smarks" as some of them idiotically call themselves and others) dont want to enjoy it.
Edge is like a "Smark"'s god. But in actual fact.. he is a smarks god because WWE allow him to be. they all love the inside jokes that Edge comes out with. they love the anti-cena attitude. These "smarks" are just falling into WWE's plans to get you behind Edge.
Of course, no one will admit to this. They'll respond with one of two things.
1) Edge isn't that good anyway
2) I dont care about his gimmick. i like his wrestling style
1) = they dont want to admit it, so will jump on another band wagon (like.. erm.. CM Punk)
2) = Edge has had the same match time and time again for the last year. he is stale and bland. appreciating him for his wrestling ability makes you look like a fool anyway.
Also, for those that say ROH and other indy promotions are 'better' than WWE.. they are also idiots.
unless someone finishes their sentence with "IN MY OPINION" then they're fools. If ROH was better than WWE.. then WWE would be the indy promotion.
WWE is a much superior product IN MY OPINION.
A real wrestling fan can enjoy the sport.
it helps if they can do so without forcing their opinions down everyone else's throat.. but i guess thats asking for a little too much.

Last I checked, WWE isn't wrestling. The WWE themselves calls themselves sports entertainment. The word wrestler is banned, and replaced by superstar, and sports entertainer. A wrestling fan, is someone who watches wrestling promotions like ROH, CZW, IWA MS, CHIKARA, PWG, the old ECW, NOAH, Dragon Gate, companies that legit call themselves wrestling companies and call their talent wrestlers. They don't push necrophilia, transvestites, drug use, or any other explicit content that can be offended to people with common sense.
A wrestling fan watches all types of various companies. If the person exclusively watches WWE they are a sports entertainment fan. The company itself hates the word wrestling, so why on earth would they want their fans to call themselves wrestling fans.

I was generalizing the WWE crowd like you did with the indy crowd. You said nothing about people who do "youtube shoots". You said indy marks, which there are a lot of, some of which actually are on WF and ARENT 30 years old and do "youtube shoots". You never said anything about them until I basically threw it in your face. Dont act like I'm being a dick when you pulled that crap first. They do have a right to insult people like I have the right to tell you to " off" which I didnt do, but I have the right to. Last I checked, WWE isn't wrestling. A true wrestling fan is just like any other sports fan; they watch it because they have a love for it. Whether it be WWE, TNA, ROH, IGWP, NOAH, etc a true wrestling will and can watch any form of wrestling and appreciate it for the art form wrestling represents.
A true wrestling fan should be somewhat knowledgeable about the sport, whether it be more modern day or old-school.
A wrestling fan is not a fair-weather fan and enjoys the product from whatever company, be it good, bad, or even ugly.
I hate people that are closeminded about wrestling or believe anyone watchign strictly WWE is not a true-wrestling fan. Bullsh*t! I admit I watch mostly WWE, but I've seen wrestlign from all over the world: WWE, WWF, WWWF, NWA, TNA, WCW, ECW, XPW (the crap that is was), iGeneration, IWGP, NOAH, ROH, New Japan, CZW, and the list goes on. And I can tell you something that will stand the test of time: every company has good stuff and bad stuff.
I undertand there are people will side or favor one company more than others. But a wrestling fan can appreciate them all.

A wrestling fan is someone who can basically watch 1991 WCW, 2000 ECW, and 2003 WWE without their colons clenching.

this is my own personal opinion on a loyal die hard wrestling fan
-They cant remember the first match they ever watched because it was soooo long ago they've forgotten.
-They're age was a single digit when they started, they didnt jump into it when they were 14
-They watch wrestling religiously no matter what it is, WWF, AWA, TNA, NWA, ROH, USWA, NJPW
-You've never "given up" on wrestling during the hard times
Now what im tryin to seperate is a die hard loyal wrestling fan from a "wrestling fan" if your 20 years old and you started watching wrestling around 98 (the big era) then fine ill consider you a wrestling fan. I wont consider you a die hard fan. I put the wrestling fans on the Hogan nickname scale.
Incredible-Die hard wrestling fan Immortal- Hardcore Wrestling fan Hollywood- Teenage wrestling fan (not exactly "teenagers" but you see my point), if you dont know who hogan is then your just not a fan at all
Then of course if you refer to Hogan as Terry Golden your automatically inducted into the Wrestling Fan hall of fame!!
I also feel that fans that use wrestling terms that are meant for the business and its workers are nothing but "internet fans" IMO no "fan" should say mark, smark, bump, or pop. You're not a wrestler and your not part of the business. To me it just makes it sound like you wanna sound cool like you know everything.

Did you ever watch the old ECW?? Not ECW on Spike tv....80% of that was offensive. Lesbian sex, strippers, Blood, violence..Hell Raven crusifying Sandman was one of the most offensive segments in ECW history. As wild and crazy as the ECW fans were they were speechless after that event so much that Raven had to come out and apologize for his actions. Ive seen very very little of these Indy feds that people nut over on here sayin it true wrestling. "True" wrestling died in America a LONG time ago. The only place your gonna find "Wrestling" is in Japan

Here's my criteria: If you think you're a wrestling fan, you are. Because I have no right to tell you you're not, just because you happen to watch for reasons I don't like.
Whether you watch for the sporting aspect, the interviews, the fireworks, the colors, the divas, Howard Finkel, or whether you only like TNA, ROH, indies or foreign feds: If you watch enough to consider yourself a fan, you are a REAL fan no matter what any other fan tries to tell you.
Even if you don't read spoilers, or don't know every wrestler's real name, or cheer for the guys WWE pushes just because they're getting a push, or read the newsletters: You're still a REAL fan. Don't let elitists tell you you're not a fan just because they think they are more enlightened than you are.
Most people who have a criteria for what they consider a REAL fan to be, are just trying to exclude others just to make themselves feel more important.
You could watch wrestling for all of the things I hate about it, and none of the things I like... but you'd still be a real wrestling fan, just like I am.

well there is a difference between "good wrestling" and "bad wrestling" and the people that shoot for horrible matches (Cena vs Umaga for example) then you are more of a fan who just likes the guy who is in the ring.
Wrestling is: grapples and reverses and lock ups, take downs..those get us pumped. Also, not messing up at all during that wrestling match, thats tough to do when you plan something out and you have to reverse, takedown, tie up, shoot to the ropes duck under into a reverse headlock..im just shootin stuff out here.
go watch any Benoit vs Kurt Angle (not the cage match cause there is few wrestling in it from what I can remember)..if you cant get excited from their match then you arent a true wrestling fan..period
