First off, I'm not an expert nor do I intend to be one. This thread is simply my opinion based on what I've seen, watched, and read in the 15 years or so as a wrestling fan. I'm sure my analysis will have flaws in it and I expect it. I don't want to start fights about this, I just want people to see things with an open mind. Also, if you respond to this please be mature about your response.
I cannot even begin to tell how annoying and pathetic all this hate towards John Cena has become. It seems for the past few seasons it has been cool to dump on John Cena. I'm sure most people are hating him simply for the act of hating him and have no backing to their feelings towards him. I'm not a huge John Cena fan and I'm not even starting to say Cena is the best champion in WWE history. I think the man is a good guy and represents the WWE quite nicely. But a lot of people on these forums and Internet in general are clueless or have tunnel vision regarding many things surrounding this man.
"HE'S BEEN CHAMP TOO LONG"
- On Sept. 17, 2007 John Cena became the sixth man to hold the WWE title for a year +. Realistically, John Cena has held the belt since April of 2005 minus a few months here and there. His lengthy title reigns have people bi*tching and whining I don't know for sure fact why John has been the champ for so long but I can give some pretty good notions:
1 - He's the most reliable man on the RAW Roster, both habit and injury-wise. John isn't doing stupid acts in hotels or to others (Orton) nor is he involved with dumb extracurricular activities (10 wrestlers that recently were suspended). The man is a hard worker.], but he remains injury free. HHH, UT, Edge, Batista, Henry, etc all have suffered long-term injuries. John has only sustained one injury (knee injury back in 2003) during his time in the WWE.
2 - The man can adapt to many different styles of wrestling. Take a look at the wrestlers he's faced during his reigns; HBK, Umaga, Kurt Angle, Jericho, HHH, etc. The man is able to change styles or at least meshed quite well with numerous guys. Guys like Kahli, Batista, Rey, and Lashley are limited to the styles they can handle. Would anybody buy a PPV for a Hardcore Brawl featuring Rey Mysterio vs. Rob Van Dam? Would anybody buy one with Batista vs. Kurt Angle Iron Man Match headlining the card? John can be mixed with a lot of different styles and fair better than someone with a one-dimensional style.
To be honest I like the fact John has held the title so long. It is funny to hear people complain about the length of his reign but they are the same people to whine when a title's statue is diminished because of frequent changes. Things like this make me believe that a lot of fans love to be unhappy in order to whine and complain.
"HE ONLY KNOWS X NUMBER OF MOVES"
Please. Almost every single WWE match today is one of several cookie cutter matches. Every one can do the same generic stuff (punches, kicks, headlocks, tossing over the top rope, etc) and everyone has their 4 or 5 trademark or "character" move set. People cannot steal other people's moves. I feel this is one of the biggest reason why the WWE is so bland in general. Back in the heydays, wrestlers had their one finisher and the rest of the match was open to what moves suited them best.
People saying he is the worst champion because of his long title reigns are just plain dumb and have no knowledge of the sport. Diesel held the belt for a year and trust me, he was boring. When HHH reigned forever, people hated him because he wouldn't drop the belt or if he did, he'd win it right back. Now people are wanting him to win the title from Cena.
Lastly, I'm not saying Cena is the the best the WWE has seen. I do feel Cena is one of the best in the WWE right now and is deserving of his title reign. He will one day lose the title and someone else will be champion. Hell, maybe the next guy's title reign will parallel one of Bruno's!
The basis of my thread is that there is little reason to be hating John Cena so much. I'm nowhere near his biggets fan nor even a big fans of his, but I respect the guy for what he's done and how he handles himself as a WWE representative.
