I was just sitting here wondering why soooo many wrestlers die from heart related problems. Yes I know its the steroids, drugs, alchohol but do you guys think all the bumps in the ring contribute to it too?

Mike DiBiase died from a heart attack because of a bump in the ring (also because he had a bad heart to begin with), and I've heard a few stories about Stan Stasiak's Heart Punch, so I'll say yes, bumps in the ring can effect your heart.

Of course.
You'd think the constant activity would be good for you, but after awhile your heart really needs time to catch up. Over time it really weakens, I'd assume.

I really don't know how they do it.
Professional wrestling is a lot harder than playing basketball, yet pro basketball players are paid up to $36 million a year (Jordan in the late 90s). Meanwhile pro wrestlers are paid AT THE MOST a million or two (that's if you're a top WWE main eventer - a ton for normal standards, sure, but nothing compared to basketball players) a year.

I dont thnk wrestling is much, i'd say the drugs and crap. I mean there are guys that are like flair and still wrestling so i dont think its wrestling so much. However when i wrestle i plan to retire at a somewhat young age so I dont ahve any physical problems

Meanwhile pro wrestlers are paid AT THE MOST a million or two (that's if you're a top WWE main eventer - a ton for normal standards, sure, but nothing compared to basketball players) a year. There's various reasons to why wrestlers don't get paid as much as other sports. I'll point out the biggest two tho, First off Wrestling isn't as big as many of us tend to think. Wrestling fails in comparison to the sport you pointed out "Basketball" in popularity and revenue. #2 Is that Vince controls the market, plain and simple. This isn't a situation where teams fight each other for rights to the athlete by buying and outbidding each other. It basically works in wrestling, on the premise that VINCE decides what HE wants to pay you and you can either take it or leave it. What are you gonna do, go to another team? There's no where to go. You saw a prime example of what happened when Turner and WCW gave WWE competition, wrestlers left, but now theres no where to go. Now that Vince is the sole member on the block again *TNA* is not a threat BTW. He does whatever he wants and theres nothing anyone can do at the present time.

#1 reason is drugs. Drugs make the heart stop. Jake Roberts is superman.

actually the training for wrestling is grueling and it gets your hearty going so fast i can totalyl see what happens to these wrestlers. throw in the fact that drugs and other substances mess with your arteries and blood vessels and its just a recipe for disaster. we need to think more realistically about who we should be watching and if theyre healthy or not. guys who are softer like punk mvp or benoit may be in better shape than the over muscled like that prick benoit or a guy like battista or lashley

Th ereason in which so many Wrestlers have heart attacks is because of the ammount of drugs they pump in to there system.

I think a lot of wrestlers die from heart attacks because of how hard they work each year. If you work that hard for a long period of time it will be harder on your heart. Also a lot of wrestlers that died from heart attacks used steroids in their career so that had some contribution to it as well.

Doesn't steriods enlarge your heart making you more open to heart attacks, sure I read that somewhere although it might have been in a dream!! Anyone able to confirm?
