Hopefully DirecTV starts carrying HD ppvs by at least January/February, because I'm really looking forward to WrestleMania 24 in HD. The only problem I have with it will be the price tag, similar to boxing in HD. Since WWE ppvs are already $39.99 on DirecTV, HD will likely be $10 more, and $50 is just way too much for some half-decent 3-hour wrestling show.

^You should switch over to Dish Network. Their packages are cheaper and you get more channels, they also offer more HD channels.

This comes from Apparently, the WWE will finally be rolling out a major pay-per-view event in high-definition some 12 months after UFC did the same. According to a tipster, Time Warner Cable (partly owned by Time Warner, parent company of AOL, which owns Engadget) is gearing up to offer the WWE Royal Rumble PPV event in HD when it airs on January 27, 2008. Of course, this shouldn't be too surprising considering that WWE was already planning to switch Smackdown to HD next month, but for fans of the sport, we're sure they'll be delighted to have the PPV matches in 1080i, too. We'll let you know if we hear anything official. Its kinda funny, I have Time Warner and there is no option for me to order HD PPV, it doesn't really matter since I'm going to the Rumble, but it would be cool to order it in HD and record it to watch when I get home.

Why are people making reference to Audio Quality? That's nothing to do with High Definition. High Definition refers to the quality of the picture, it's just a convenience that it is coupled with something like Surround Sound. Even then, WWE can drop the volume on the ringside cameras mics so they can cover it up. The only thing I'm expecting is a load of bruised heads, because I won't be surprised if they get told to make the punches a little more convincing. HDMI, part of the HD experience, includes audio remastering. But for WWE Programming, I'm betting they won't include this. And by dropping the volume on ringside cameras, SD viewers (Standard Definition) will be punished.
