I bought 6 the other day!!!! Youre sig is way to damn big dude Anyways my friend had gotten one and i went over to play it and he bought 3 games, Madden, RFOM, COD3 really Resistance is the only kick ass game, this system if it is like they say (it will be 4x more powerful than the 360 at launch is the biggest bull crap) then this is not looking too great. Madden is a carbon copy of the 360 version as is COD3, Resistance kicks ass though, we tried playing some older PS1/PS2 games and it would not read them so w/e. Nintendo and Microsoft will emerge as victorious as always (imo)

NYT not impressed with PS3
Sony's new console "just isn't that great" according to The New York Times; online service, emphasis of power over entertainment cited as flaws.
By Tim Surette, GameSpot Posted Nov 20, 2006 12:26 pm PT
Hundreds of thousands of PlayStation 3s have now shipped out of Sony's warehouses and are now where they belong--in gamers' hands. Word of mouth is beginning to spread as first impressions are surfacing, and according to The New York Times, the final product does not quite match the hype.
The paper's Seth Schiesel opens his experience with the PS3 with this statement to Sony Corp.'s CEO: "Howard Stringer, you have a problem. Your company's new video game system just isn't that great."
Schiesel claims to have spent more than 30 hours with a retail PS3 and played more than a dozen games. After his marathon of gaming, he says that although the PS3 is "the world's most powerful game console," it is "surprisingly clunky to use and simply does not provide many basic functions that users have come to expect, especially online."
The high-profile newspaper goes on to point out several other problems with the console, including controllers that need to be synched up to each PS3 it is used with through a USB cable (versus Microsoft's truly universal Xbox 360 controller), lack of custom soundtracks, lack of a unified friends list, and no background downloading. In Sony's defense, the fact that the PS3 is a connected console means that system updates can be added later, like they have been with the Xbox 360.
There are a few positive notes, but the review is overwhelmingly negative. Schiesel, who lauded the Xbox 360's ease-of-use when that console launched, feels as though the PS3 is largely "unfinished" with some features that feel "tacked-on."
"Sony can't be happy with this review," Newsweek technology editor N'Gai Croal told GameSpot. "Fortunately, there's nothing like a Tickle-Me-Elmo-type shortage to keep potential customer's salivating, regardless of what the Old Gray lady has to say."
Only time will tell whether this and any other poor reviews of the PS3 will do anything to deter gamers from buying the much-hyped console, or possibly convince them to buy a machine from one of Sony's rivals.
One analyst thinks it's inevitable supply shortages will maximize the Xbox 360's chances this holiday season. In a memo sent to investors today, Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets said, "... retailers are likely to encourage consumers unable to find PS3 or Wii consoles to consider purchasing an Xbox 360."
Sony was unavailable for comment as of press time.

On Xplay last night they reviewed 5 launch titles. Madden got a 3/5 which is lower then the 4/5 that the 360 version got. They said the game is pretty much exactly the same but they gave it a lower score because it had no new features and of course Sony's claims that the PS3 would be 4 times as powerful as the 360 at launch and that is not true. And no it does not have a fantasy draft. Gundham got a 1/5 and they called the worst game of 06 thus far. Genji got a 2/5. Untold Legends a 2/5. Reistance a 5/5 and they said it's really the only launch title that is must own. In the end they said the system is not worth the time and effort at this point. They told people to take a wait and see aproach and addmited that they are very dissipointed in the launch titles. Thank you much for this review. I kind of assumed this would be the case. None of the games really looked that promising. I'm disappointed in Sony yet again. Nintendo really is the only company who knows how to launch a system. It's kind of pathetic. please excpet for Zelda all of the other title are either out for the 360 and/or PS3 or are weak . the 360 had a nice launch last year , lot of good game were out day 1 .

Monkey Ball is a great party game and is far from being "weak". Red Steel is also a decent game. Sure, it may not be some huge blockbuster, but again, its far from "weak". The Wii launch line-up does have some lame games, like Cars and whatnot, but there are about 2-3 decent games, 1-2 good games, and one absolutely amazing game (that being Zelda). I'd say the Wii launch is a lot more solid than the PS3 launch which has really only one game that is worth purchasing, that being Resistance.

Also, calling Gears of War or Oblivion or Saint's Row weak is foolish to say the least, fatally so depending on where you say it.

I guess I can chime in on this since I finally got a little face time w/ the PS3 yesterday (at Best Buy). I'll admit this is coming from someone that's been engulfed in the world of Wii, but regardless, this just goes to show what angle companies are taking and what types of different results people will get.
I played whatever NBA game they had going and it was a very very pretty picture. It was kinda crazy to see the players sweating and how realistic they look... but I asked myself: is "sweat" really the only thing that justifies spending $600?? I mean the controls were exactly like any other NBA game I've played on the Xbox, PS1, PS2, etc. So originality isn't going to cut it. The picture, while very very detailed, isn't much better (if at all) than the XBox 360. Clearly what Playstation's going for is "graphics". Yes graphics are important but after spending a good 5 hours playing Zelda on Wii, I've come to the conclusion that it really isn't as important as Sony and Microsoft want us to believe it is. So I was there standing in front of a Playstation doing the exact same motions I've done since 1998 using the same type of controller, and having the same amount of fun. Nothing about the next-gen basketball game made me feel like I HAVE TO HAVE THIS OMGZZZZZZZZZZ. Yeah it's only 1 game, but it also goes to show that it really is the same old thing, just a new face to it.
I'm sticking with my Wii hopefully for a long time to come

so I see that PS3 has Linux running on it... could this mean that homebrews and backups aren't far behind? My standard rule is to not purchase a console (or handheld) til it's able to play backups. XBox 360 is able to and if the PS3 is able to then I guess I'm forced to get it Wii clearly isn't moddable yet, but given that it takes DVDs instead of the smaller discs, it'll probably only be a matter of time >

My friend Matt just got the PS3 today. He got Tiger Woods, NHL 2k, NBA 2k, and Resistance. Looks great on his 1080p TV, too.
I'm absolutely terrible in basketball. LoL.
