Well, it seems that Blue-Ray is on its way to cementing its status as the "next generation format" with the Warner Bros announcing that they are switching formats. Only Paramount is left as a major supporter of HD-DVD format and even they are rumored to be ready for a switch according to Financial Times. This was great news for Sony and prompted a 6-point stock increase in one day! With MGS4 and FF13 set to be exclusive on the PlayStation 3, the system is definitely on the way up!

Universal still supports HD-DVD, and last time I checked they were a major supporter.

It's not over yet, but then again, it was a stupid war in the first place.

It's only a matter of time before they switch too. Face it, Blue-Ray pretty much got it wrapped up now.

Neither have it wrapped up. Blu-Ray (there is no "e" in it by the way) may have studio support, but that means jack squat if they can't get consumer support, which they don't have.

Neither of them really have very much consumer support. Blu-ray needs to start lowering prices now that they pretty much have it wrapped up, then people will support it more.

There also needs to be more HDTVs in circulation. There's no point in getting HD-DVD or Blu-Ray if you don't' own an HDTV and there isn't a high enough HDTV penetration to support a high enough consumer support of one format or another.

blu Ray is far to expensive at the moment. Why would you pay nearly double the price for a blu ray dvd. No doubt the look better but its not worth double the price. Just before Christmas i saw Mission Imposible 3 on Blu ray for £25 yet the whole MI trilogy on dvd was £15 who in there right mind would pay a extra £10 for only one movie.

Yea I'm over the next gen DVD trend already. I got the HD DVD player for my 360 with the free DVD offer. I mean the quality's good, but I don't care THAT much. I'll eventually get a PS3 for Blu too, but I'd never make the full conversion. Most of the time it's not worth the extra cash.

Umm, that's because the public is hesitant to side with either, not wanting to make a bad investment. However, with studio support the amount of things released on Blu-Ray will increase even more, which will sway the public.

The porn companies still matter the most. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I'm a huge supporter of next gen formats, but the market penetration for HDTVs, HD Cable, and HD set ups in general is the slightest of fractions. And god knows, by the time it becomes common place, the long rumored super HD Japanese developed discs will be out, or the HD Digital Download process will be in better acceptance.

You're really, really stupid. Blu-Ray has WAY more consumer support over HD-DVD. I believe last time I checked, it was a 3:1 ratio. HD DVD is dead, and this is coming from someone who currently only has an HD DVD player. But I'm going to buy a PS3 within the next month.

Did I say HD had more consumer support? No you jackass. As a matter of fact, I said NEITHER have anything wrapped up. As in plural. Both.
