Rap isnt music. It sounds more like an auction If you're serious, that comment is even worse than this topic. And I'm not even a rap fan.

as someone else said on here, music isnt dead. Its just the sign of the times. Different music goes out and new music comes in. I think there have been significant losses in the music world including Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, John Bonham, Keith Moon, John Lennon and the list goes on and on. its the influence that these people had on the musicians now is whats keeping music alive and well. Its all about opening your mind to newer music to see that its not dead.

The farther away you move from mass commercialism the greener the pasture. This applies to most things in life, really. That's not to say everything that gets notoriety is awful, that's definitely not true. But to appeal to the widest audience possible you have to dumb the product down/sell cellphones. With the way audiences are nowadays don't expect many exceptions.
I do agree that a lot of the "best" music is in the past but with an open-mind and an internet connection you can find a lot of great contemporary music of all genres.

It's still going strong. Just avoid the stuff you don't like like I do.

Maybe you might have heard But no one spoke a word The day the planet cried The day the music died
Md.45-Day The Music Died
;D
I can see what you're getting at.There is no original music-a lot of people in the charts ie rappers and rNb (which is not even the right term but they use it anyway) sluts use backing tracks or lyrics from 80s songs for their tracks, on the other hand there are numerous covers, and then you have bands like Megadeth trying to relive past glories. Add to the fact, that whiny emo has become the music of choice, people have obviously no taste whatsoever these days, and the record companies care more about profits than musical talent-IE Myspace, just seems they're out to sign everybody on there- take Kate Nash for instance, she has absolutely no talent, her songs are all just repetitively bashing piano keys and singing lyrics in chav english. Music hasn't died, it's just lying dormant, ready to strike again.
Everyone should hear Trout Mask Replica to know an album that has really stood the test of time.

People who think music of the past is ONLY good, don't know how to open their minds to anything new.
Grow up and learn to enjoy something. Get out of your stupid box.

Well I've grown up, I enjoy stuff, and I'm VERY open minded (just look at my last 2 relationships for proof lol) but for my tastes today's newer music just ain't cutting it for me (sometimes it does, but just doesn't live up to my standards of great). Sorry, sir.
But hey that's what's great about America, right? I mean we all have the right to choose what we think is great and what's not so great. It's what makes us different from most other countries. I guess it's kinda like Shawn Michaels said once we have the right to cheer or boo whoever or whatever we want, whenever we want. Great freedom, right?
So I guess in the end I boo the lack of guitar solos, whiny singers, musicians who really try to hard, and people who don't wanna put on a rock 'n roll concert and act like rock stars.
And for me all the Van Halen's, Led Zeppelin's, Metallica's, AC/DC's, and Guns 'N Roses>today's (again, in MY opinon) sub-standard, very processed, or unentertaining product.

If you honestly cant enjoy some form of music, past a certain date, you are an uptight prick. Couldnt of said it better myself. Ill be the first to admitt theres a lot of (what i consider) crapty music out there, especially on the radio/mtv. But theres also a ton of amazing music being made, sometimes you just have to look a little harder to find it. as long as theres hearing, music will never EVER die.
