Forty nine years ago today, shortly after 1 AM, the chartered plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson crashed not long after take off, killing all three musicians. I'm not holding out hope for many fans of the trio, but I myself am a big one, and make it a point to remember this day each year as the day two of my favorite musicians' careers were cut drastically short. I'll be rockin' some "Come On, Let's Go" and "Peggy Sue" today and and annoying my band mates with said tunes.

Chantilly lace and a pretty face And a pony tail hanging down That wiggle in the walk and giggle in the talk Makes the world go round There ain't nothing in the world like a big eyed girl That makes me act so funny, make me spend my money Make me feel real loose like a long necked goose Like a girl, oh baby that's what I like

I am a pretty big Buddy Holly fan. I've never heard a song of his that I don't like. I am a casual fan of Valens and the Bopper, but obviously a very impactful and sad day...

The day was both tragic and historic.

I watched the special show of Behind the Music on VH1 about it a few years ago. It is a tragic and historic event.

Just think- if this hadn't have happened, we would have never heard that awful "American Pie" song by Don McLean.

Buddy Holly is a god His simple sounds, yet incredible writing was outstanding. He's also in one of the greatest pop songs of the 90's, with the song Buddy Holly by Weezer

Buddy Holly was a genius, it's a shame he died after only cutting a couple of records.

Oh, I thought this thread was going to be about the day 50 Cent released his first CD. No, that was the day we took music's rotting corpse, dug it up and raped it before setting it on fire.
