I once had a friend named Chris who just happened to be the half-brother of Beth Flair, we were friends throughout high school, up until our mid 20's, we live in Florida so I never got a chance to meet the man. Anyway, eventually Chris got married, a wedding attended by the entire Flair family !! By the way this was a month or 2 after WM20. Words cannot describe the joy I felt, I was in the same room with THE MAN. After the "I DO's" everyone went to the reception, which was held in a huge barn out in the country, miles from anything. eventually, after several shots of 151 proof rum, I sat down next to Flair, and youll never see Flair be Richard Fleihr more than he is in such a laid back enviroment such as this. just a regular guy, I think he was buzzing a little too, anyway, I thought to myself, QUICK !! whats a good Flair question ? So I asked about the fact that when he won his last title in WCW, they then referred to him as a 15-time champ, as we all know, WWE says 16, I always found that to be confusing. Flair's answer: "I don't know, but the real number is 22"
- The House body rejected Georgia State Senate Bill 413 with a vote of 105-57. The bill would have eliminated WWE's exemption from state regulations which would make performers subject to random drug tests.
Currently WWE is exempt from regulations on professional wrestling in the state because of a 2005 statue that excludes all organizations with assets of more than $25 million.
Senate Bill 413 is considered fallout from Chris Benoit killing his wife and son before taking his own life last summer.
- Triple H gave an interview to Muscular Development last week and talked about his soon-to-be second child. Past rumors on the gender of the baby have stated that Stephanie is expecting a girl in July. Triple H said in the interview that they do not know the gender of the baby.
He said, "We don't know what it is, we are going to wait and be surprised. Not a lot of surprises left in life, you've got to take them where you can."
The person conducting the interview asked Triple H if he was hoping that the baby would be a boy. "You know, its funny. I would take either one. As long as the baby's healthy, and I know people say that all the time. Having a girl now, if I had another girl I'd be thrilled. At some point I would like to have a boy, and hopefully I can at some point, but it doesn't have to be this one. And my wife wants to have like five kids. [laughs] She better do it soon, I'm getting old, I won't be able to remember their names."
- Jim Ross has posted his latest blog entry on his official website. You can check out the full blog on his website. Listed below are some of the highlights from JR's blog:
- On whether Shawn Michaels' retirement will be given the same treatment as Ric Flair's by WWE: I predict that when HBK’s time comes that he will get an even bigger "send off" than Ric, iffor no other reason Shawn is looked upon as a WWE creation. HBK deserves any accolades that come his way, for the record.
- Comparing Ric Flair to Hulk Hogan: Two different careers with two different styles, but two successful men who have contributed greatly to the biz. Flair was an every day player a la a linebacker such as Dick Butkus or Brian Urlacher, whereby Hulk brought the sizzle and show biz a la Terrell Owens or Randy Moss. Both Flair and Hogan sold tickets but Hogan, thanks to the WWE PR machine, got more mainstream PR than Flair. Both men were trailblazers without question who made the business better for those that followed them.
- Opinion on the ECW Title: The ECW Title is most likely on a par with the IC Title and the United States Title these days, which means it could be meant to mean more.
- One of Floyd Mayweather’s advisers, Leonard Ellerbe, told Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports that he was told that WrestleMania XXIV did more buys than WWE’s previous record of 1.25 million.
While that was not completely unexpected given the drawing power of Mayweather, if it holds true, WWE officials should be ecstatic.
WWE is expected to announce the official number next week.
