Has anybody picked up the Cowboy Bebop compete series on Blu Ray? I've been waiting for this for a long time. The only thing I'm wanting more than this is Diskotech Media's proper BR release of Lupin the III: Castle of Cagliostro. No, I hate Bebop, but I've heard it's a solid set. I was taking a look at the box at my store, nice art. The reviews have been pretty stellar. If it's your cup of soup, do it. Seems more than worth it.

Many say it's one of the best ever, others completely hate it. Personally I love it, but I can see why people dislike it. I haven't seen anywhere near enough anime to have a valid opinion on what's best. I prefer anime movies myself anyway. I've never been into too many shows. Which shows or movies are you into? I'm always on the lookout for great anime I haven't seen yet.

Behind FMA, it's really considered the BEST anime ever made (to American fans) and I really think it's the scifi element that sells us Yanks. I mean we also like DBZ, Naruto, Bleach and Pokemon but let's take aside shows that have gone above and beyond anime fans as those have (into mainstream pop culture) and just look at the ones that have gained so much popularity in the otaku world that they've somewhat reached out into pop culture: Bebop is tops, with FMA and DeathNote close in tow behind it.

What's the difference between DBZ and DBZ Kai? I could never get into it but I caught an episode of Kai on Toonami last week and loved it. If you can't tell I'm 100% noob. I've been into anime casually off and on until recently. I'm really starting to get into it.

I'm content with my three favourites: Akira Ninja Scroll Ghost In The Machine Solid film, Akira (assuming you're talking about the film and not a series I've never heard of).

Plus it cut out most of the filler too if I'm not mistaken.

Solid film, Akira (assuming you're talking about the film and not a series I've never heard of). Yes sir; the 1988 masterpiece. You ever watch any of the late 90s/early 2000s Miyazaki stuff if you're more of a film guy than series?

Wow, can't remember the last time their was this much activity in here, guess the move did help. So who's seen the (somewhat) new DBZ movie? It's been FOREVER since I watched the canon series...watched that disgrace of a live action movie though. But was curious if the movie was much good? It's easily the best DBZ movie in my opinion. Watched it three times & I love it more with each watch. Granted, I had to watch it subbed first & my last watch was in the movies with the dub so duh, I'd like it better. But yeah, it's great. It's more comedy orientated than action though but the comedy is really funny & I thought that action was some of the best in the series. Really excited for the new one coming out too, though I'm not sure how I feel about Frieza being brought back as the main villain. Also, I really have to watch the extended version of Battle of Gods, I've had it since Christmas. Yes I did. I loved the original, but I love Brotherhood just a bit more. I think the thing I didn't like about Brotherhood was how important they made Armstrong's sister (not gonna dare spell that name). Couldn't stand the character. Really? Olivier was easily one of my favorites. She was definitely my favorite character not in the 2003 anime as well. Took my friend almost forcing me to sit down and watch it to, you know, actually watch it. I was intending on making myself hate it. Then the short jokes started and, well, if I get to watch people be bungholes to characters like Ed, I'm for it. I'll give it a shot one day. I still haven't finished Cowboy Bebop despite starting it like 5 times now. Weren't you really impressed by Ballad of a Fallen Angels? The episode with this scene. Or am I thinking of someone else? Also, if you plan on watching both FMA's, I'd recommend starting with the original. Brotherhood's first 13 episodes covers the same material that the original did for the first half of it's run & butchers it. The series was on fast-forward because they wanted to get to the new material & the beginning of Brotherhood suffers for that. Basically, watching Brotherhood first would ruin, in my opinion, the best moments of the original whereas watching the original first doesn't effect Brotherhood at all. As a side note, it is not a good idea to watch the first half of the original & then switch over to episode 14 of Brotherhood, they cover the same material event-wise but they foreshadow each part. If you just going to watch one, I & most people seem to prefer Brotherhood though both have their strengths & weaknesses. It seems to be a really polarizing show. Bebop is nowhere close to the most polarizing anime, that's Neon Genesis Evangelion, easily. & Bebop's popularity in the west is because of how westernized it is. Of course, the more low-key sci-fi helps with that too. Looking at all those shows you listed, Bebop has two main differences I want to throw out there, it's the only series aimed at adults & its the only series with an episodic/myth arc structure, much more similar to shows you see over here rather than the more plot driven narrative. But regardless, I still love Bebop & it's probably forever got a place in my list of favorite anime, right above Monster & behind Hunter x Hunter (2011). I'm content with my three favourites: Akira Ninja Scroll Ghost In The Machine Wasn't a fan of Akira myself, outside of the visuals. The animation was really impressive for it's time & impressively holds up today. But I remember the film not even attempting to form an emotional connection between the two leads before the last few minutes of the anime, making it hard to hold my interest in the conflict between the protagonist & antagonist, so to speak (trying to word it because I believe saying the name of the "villain" here, is considered a spoiler?). So yeah, really cool visually but it failed to connect on a deeper level for me. Also, do you mean Ghost in the Shell? Because I'm 83% positive that there is no anime called Ghost in the Machine. If you are, I haven't seen the movie which is what I think you're referring to but the first season of the show was good. The five episode build up to Gohan taking Goku's spot in the Cell Games: much needed filler. My favorite filler will always be the one where Goku and Piccolo get there drivers license. This & the Otherworld Tournament are tied for the best fillers for me. I'm really going to miss those when I go through Kai. & LLLBD, it was definitely needed filler. Don't even see the point of adapting the Cell Games if you're going to leave gems like this out of the show.

I beg your pardon; it is Ghost In The Shell; not Machine, my bad. I knew it was, onviously didn't pay attention when I typed it in. Thanks mate. Again I'll ask, you ever think of giving the Ghost In a Shell series a shot? Not my personal favorite, but it's got a nice sized cult following.

Yeah, Bebop is aimed for adults but I'll tell ya, the reason I don't include Evangelion is because you're actually the first person I've heard bring it up in well over a year. I've heard Bebop at least once every other week or something. XD

If the rest of the show was as good as that, I easily would of finished it. I hear the show gets so much better, but it's hard to pick it back up with so many other shows I need to finish. And yeah, the Otheworld tournament was actually a lot of fun to watch. I enjoyed it.

Couldn't the mods move this thread to the Comics board and then just make it an Entertainment sub-board? It seems like this would be a better fit in the Comics board but that doesn't really get enough traffic to warrant its own board. It's all entertainment anyway.

This came from the Comics board and I had RAC move it because there were three people who posted regularly. Me, Pepsi and Dalmaito. Occasionally Tobi. At least we've added new people in here, which was the goal. And more people view this board than the comic board. And technically anime is entertainment. So it's staying.

I never knew this thread existed so clearly you made the right move. I'm into comics but I never think to check that board. I was hoping to get more traffic to that too, which is why I suggested the move. But what whatever you guys think it's best is cool. You'd know better than me anyway.

Sorry for the double post but I just thought of a question for everyone who doesn't like Cowboy Bebop: What do you think of Space Dandy?
