What drives me mad, is that Metallica are not really as awesome as people make them out to be. Give me Machine Head/Slayer/Pantera anyday. This is purely your opinion. To be honest, I see nothing in Slayer and Machine Head (though Pantera are great). I used to be huge on Metallica, and I always thought Pantera were overrated heads just because of the death. They weren't mentioned AT ALL in the metal world on forums, until that damn Dimebag died. Now they're like the Nirvana of Metal.

They were pretty good and got pretty well known, but were cemented as that after Dimebag died. Fortunately I got to see Dimebag live before the incident.

Agreed about the whole Pantera thing. Dimebag was good, but I guess the circumstances of his death brought Pantera more notoriety.

Sorry for keeping this off topic, but one thing that (in my opinion) makes Metallica better than Pantera is the fact that their solo's fit the song. For example, in "Walk" by Pantera... the solo area seems like a totally different song and doesnt fit in. Metallica's solos all mesh in with the songs and keep the 'flow' going.
