Remember that other forum we all migrated to for a little bit that replaced BOOK? I miss BOOK for the short time I was part of it. I wish BOOK would make a comeback lol When BOOK went down, Afterlife came up under it. it was supposed to be MUCH more than it was. Afterlife was supposed to have a main site with wrestling news, columns, and probably most importantly, an area to actually host shows. There was talk and work to fix the largest issue of BOOK, in that the pictures on the site hadn't been updated since 2002 or so. I had written a script that'd import pictures via bbc code, but automatically resize them to whatever the uniformed squared image size was. the catch on it is, the image had to be square to begin with. so the WCWA roster images (funny how that works huh?) would've imported flawlessly, but if someone just tried to drop in a full blown studio promo shot, it'd end up super squished. not going to throw people under the bus because it's been almost 15 years now, but the main site never came to be because of personal issues from the other admin, who quickly faded away from the scene as a whole shortly after Afterlife launched. Tenn took the mantle, but had no background in web development and at the time, I was 16 or 17, and while I could write the code, I had no business trying to be a sysop for any scale of a website. that's why Afterlife never truthfully moved past the stage of "message board that occasionally has columns". I remember our friendship with Kamala was going to play a role in Afterlife at one point, because Kamala was very on board with producing content for the Afterlife site, until the site itself fell apart Yeah this sounds familiar to me (I think I remember who you're referring to). A modern BOOK would be something incredibly, incredibly fun to have.

Cool that you guys have such deep connections here. Yeah we used to be on this forum everyday and talking on AIM as well. I was around in the twilight of the board's activity (it had relatively died down but people still posted and reviewed shows regularly). I think it had been mentioned previously by ICW, but I think the downfall of the activity stems from other forms of social media and online gaming. When I was around between 2005-2007, online console gaming hadn't exploded yet and neither had social media. So a lot more teenagers and young people, who actually have the time to be engaged in reading and writing wrestling shows, were on here and other forums compared to now. Hell, that's what ended my stint on here. As I mentioned I was ten years old when I joined (obviously lied about my age to sign up and lied about my age to other users --although it was obvious how young I was)...I had a ton of time on my hands. Then when I was 12 I got an Xbox 360 and Live, went into high school and rest in peace message forums and fantasy booking lol ICW and I joined around the same time I believe and we're both good friends who were often fighting (mostly due to my immaturity). WCWA was already established here and was our wise mentor. DCW was also around as well. Remember that other forum we all migrated to for a little bit that replaced BOOK? I miss BOOK for the short time I was part of it. I wish BOOK would make a comeback lol

No way! Ant's going to be a father eh, congratulations man! The ICW successor ahaha I was looking through old threads here last week and cringing at myself but also laughing at the previous convos throughout the years. I feel like we were at the tail-end of this whole thing's heyday. I have a 3 year old now That's so great!

Well, I'm back from Cuba. J, Ant, dcw...nice to still see you all around (and J, it's amazing to see you working in the industry. You were always amazingly talented and I'm extremely glad to see you're doing something you love and excel at). I'm nearly 30 now --I really can't believe it. I joined this forum when I was ten years old nearly 2 decades ago!! I still reminisce on those days when each year didn't just feel like another postcard. Does AIM even still exist? A quick google search tells me it doesn't. To this day I don't recall which email I even used to register regardless. Wait...what was your OG name on here?!?!

I have never bought into "the casuals." I think it's a completely made up metric to judge AEW against tbh. Casuals are made up to harm AEW. Thats certainly a new one. I don't think they're made up to "harm AEW." That's silly. I just don't think there's a tangible group of fans that we can label as "casuals" and AEW should go out of their way to appease to them. I don't buy it for any company, it just gets used more when AEW ~discourse~ is out there

Also: it's hilarious seeing people still advocate for VIDEO PACKAGES in the year 2024. They’re helpful for casuals or people who haven’t watched the show to get an idea of what’s happening. I have never bought into "the casuals." I think it's a completely made up metric to judge AEW against tbh.

Yes and I hope it continues. I don't need or want AEW to resemble WWE in any way, shape, or form.
If their ceiling is being successful enough for consistent right renewals at good to great dollars I'm all for it.

I wonder if there might be interest in me continuing old projects here? That might be my next undertaking and, as we're a small community, I'm hoping in generates some buzz, maybe even some controversy? Someone once said that creates cash, I think. Most definitely!

I’m currently working on a fantasy newsletter, covering various promotions. I do find it difficult striking the balance between the level of detail to explain the story and keeping it short to cover as many stories/issues as possible. Super cool idea!

I'll bounce off what was said above:
I knew there was no way in hell that WCW/nWo: Reimagined could be the long form project I really wanted it to be. I felt I was telling a pretty coherent story with not as much detail - though it helped that I had very specific material to work with and it is "easier" to fix a timeline than creating a new one on their own.

I'm being lazy and don't want to switch back to the WCWA account. the detail debate is one I feel like I'm better suited to handle as a 35 year old than a 15 year old, but what problems in life aren't. WCWA shows would take weeks, if not months, and by the end, a legitimate year for some, to complete. I would write out full blown coherent music videos (with scripting that actually translated to real world music videos and why I got *really* good at doing those for a while). I'd get extremely frustrated when a show I'd spent 6 months fine tuning would be quickly bumped to the second page by something that looked like someone wrote it while driving. That's not hyperbole. There was a guy named The Crapper who "wrote" a Wrestlecrap fed who'd do 2-3 shows a week that looked like they took all of 45 seconds to do. average show would look like this; Golga beats TL Hopper Gobblygooker beats Oscar Kurrgan beats Mosh Thrasher beats Duke Droese Paul Bearer wins battle royal except somehow that's more coherent than his shows even were, because he'd try often mispell and typo his own wrestlers names. If you can convey your story in less detail and get across the point you're trying to tell, absolutely do it. In video work, some of my masterpieces have been 60 minute pandemic shows for IWTV and I'll also advocate for a 90 minute wrestling show over some of the 7 hour indie shows I get trapped at today. the same for writing. if you can engage the audience and get across the stories you're telling, do it in however little or as much detail as possible. but if you're skimping on story elements, don't be surprised if your reader isn't engaged, or is left asking for way more than you've provided Do you remember GOTH DUDE? I think I have that photo somewhere.

Interesting. I wonder if everyone who does fantasy booking go into it with a certain mindset or do they just do whatever? Fantasy booking nuzlockes essentially. Fantasy booking was very different than it is today (and it's sadly barely alive). Some of my favorites: - Tennessee's CWF is the standard-bearer for what a fantasy booking federation should be. He was incredibly detailed, creative, and his concept had great appeal to me: mashing together the WWF/WCW/ECW rosters from the Attitude Era. It's what inspired me to give WCW/nWo: Reimagined a go (and I would love to finish that series one day) and partially inspired my upcoming fig fed
- Obo's WCWA is one we've touched on. Great attention to detail, a commitment to utilizing talent who were not apart of the WWE, and just a super great mind for booking.
- Denn's WWF was his take on late 1990s WWF and, again, tremendous attention to detail.
We had very strict standards on here (especially when the Board was split between Fantasy Booking and Text Fed) and, to be honest, I think it ended up driving away certain people. That + the decline of popularity in message boards = the end of this Board being very active. We've tried everything we can think of - some ideas were not approved of - but some of us are still clinging on.

if Necro wasn't a political nutjob, he'd probably be there too. If I were to try to shape WCWA now with the same mentality of indie stars of 06ish that hadn't made it elsewhere, I couldn't. almost everyone I used or had plans for are now either in WWE, AEW, or have been. Even guys that most people never saw in WWE like Jimmy Jacobs and Allison Danger. Ironically by WCWA canon, Danger got released from WWE while pregnant, which was the storyline reason she stopped wrestling in WCWA I 100% credit you for branching out to non-WWE wrestling. I remember buying PWG: Sells Out at Suncoast all those years ago.

WCWA was so great. It was essentially AEW long before it even existed. Hell, just look at your signature: 3 of the 4 have an association with AEW. It's what genuinely introduced me to a wrestling world outside of the WWE. Very fond memories of reading that series.

Months late here WCWA Online but hope we can re-connect sometime. I just wanted to address the current state of the Board, what I'm currently up to, and plans for the future: - I am planning on conducting a pic fed based on the late 1990s that will bare the ICW name.
- I still would love to tell the story I had in mind for WCW/nWo: Reimagined. In an ideal world, I can do both.
- My issue is my severe lack of time.
I hope everyone else is doing well. Please feel free to shoot me DMs.
I’ve been having issues with my mental health for the past decade and unfortunately those issues finally succeeded in taking wrestling away from me so nothing new is gonna from me for a long time if ever Please feel free to DM me at anytime, brother.
