Okay, still too lazy for pics. But here's my thoughts:
Overall: I'm let down. They're not awful by any means, or even bad. I just expected better. But hey, how else will you get NJPW figures?
The packaging: A+! The outer box is a nice touch. Clean and beautiful. Easy to open and close. The inner box comes in a protective plastic wrap. Nice touch. The actual box it gorgeous and very well made. Clean. It has a slide action that lifts off to reveal the actual figure package. Which too is gorgeous.
The clothing: The coats are OUT OF THIS WORLD. They blow anything Mattel has EVER made out of the water. They are simply stunning!
The accessories: Okada comes with money and it's TERRIBLE. It does not look like money ... at all. His neckwear is okay. Nothing spceial. Ishii comes with a chair and it's very similar to Pac's AEW chair. CHEAP. Tanahashi comes with a cool guitar and it's pretty sweet. Will comes with a CHEAP trophy but a very awesome sword.
The belts: My wife makes amazing custom belts, so nothing will ever beat those. But these belts are SO MUCH better than anything Mattel has ever made. The paint is top notch for a mass produced line and the sculpting is very good too. The strap is what you'd expect for a mass produced line.
The scale: NOT AS BAD AS YOU THNK! In fact, NOT BAD AT ALL! Compared to a Mattel Lesnar, Okada is only a tad shorter so ... no issues really. Ishii is about the same height as the Mattel Tyler Bate. Ospreay is a bit taller than a Mattel CM Punk. Tana is about the same as a Mattel Balor. I may have mixed up those last two comparisons. Anyway, in hand they're really not as frustrating as you think.
And now ...
OKADA: TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE paint job. WAY too dark and covered in a black shadow all over the figure. It WILL buff off, but still ... tragic. The face is too plain and really doesn't look much like him. The hair has no highlights and NEEDS them. The torso is ... meh. The legs are good though. I'll see what it looks like after I calean it up ... but wow ... BAD.
Ishii: GREAT! Yes, the torso gap is real. But pushing it forward makes it go away. His arms could be bigger, and the thigh gap looks odd but only if you make his legs perfectly straight. But I really like him. No weird shading like on Okada. The wrists/hands are an issue but I'll get to that. WAY better than Okada.
Will: Pretty good! Not as great as Ishii, but way better than Okada. He suffers from shading that just isn't natural, but it will buff off! The wrist tape is BAD though. The shadow spray they used for the body got all over it. This can be painted though. Tights are stellar ... but look short due to his muscular torso. He could be less tan ... but overall he's actually ok. The neck issue isn't that bad. Noticeable, yes. Horrible, no.
Tana: GREAT! Probably the best of the bunch. The alt head looks much better than the regular and hides the neck issues. Like Ishii, it lacks an overuse of shadows which is great. Torso is solid, legs are solid. He's a must have.
Heads: They fit on both AEW and Mattel pegs! In fact, if you can find a skin tone to match Ospreay, and you want to risk it, you can customize him to have a Mattel torso and have a perfect figure!
Customizing: Only the heads and hands pop off. The hands/wrists are AWFUL. Bad design. I've yet to see if I can tone match, then place a Mattel or AEW hand into the NJPW arm. Might work. The arms will need heat to remove. The torso will not pop off like AEW. Legs look to be ratchet? But again, the tights look incredible so I'd never touch them.
Extra hands: ALL THE SAME. Every guy comes with the SAME HANDS. Just matched to tone. AND YES they forgot to paint the tape on ALL the hands even though these guys don't use tape. But thankfully they come with enough non-taped hands so you don't need it to be an issue ... other than the crap wrists. Okada has the black shadow all over them, but you can acetone that right off.
So yeah ... sorry for no pics yet. I'm SO excited to have NJPW figures ... but wish they were better. I'll def do some doctoring to make them better. WOULD buy again. Already have S2 pre-orderd. But yes, if there is a S3 ... I'll do it. Hopefully Super 7 learns from their first try and can fix the small stuff.
