The questions are flying and the answers are few and far between, so I figure I will bust out a little column for now to address the questions for my fans and friends. Yes, I asked for a release from TNA. Yes, it has been granted to me. I had until October 22, 2009 on my contract remaining. Why, you ask? Well that’s a long answer with a number of reasons -- all of which are personal, and need not be thrown out there. For now I will simply say that I made myself a promise early on in my career. That was: when it’s no longer fun to wrestle it’s time to go. And it was no longer fun for me at TNA. Now I realize that there will be many of you who will jump all over me and say things like, "I would kill to have that spot," etc. But unless you have been there it’s very difficult to know how you would react in the same position. TNA is a great place to work. The locker room is fun, the boys all get along for the most part. And everyone there can wrestle their butts off. But a lot of the time the guys are not allowed to show that, as it’s not what is right for the spot. A lot of people don’t understand what does and doesn’t make a good wrestling match or TV show. I will simply use myself as an example of this. Simply put, my job is/was to make others look good. Did I do a good job of this? Yes. Sometimes too good? Yes. Could I have gone out there and done shooting star presses and 450 splashes galore? Yes. Those of you who know me know I am capable of many things in a wrestling ring. Would it have made my opponents look good? No. Would it have been too flashy for my role as X Division traitor? YES! Thus I didn’t do the things people wanted to see, I did my job and did the things people didn’t want to see. I take a lot of pride in my job. It is my one MAJOR vice. Perhaps I have too much pride but that is my failing. I trained very hard with everyone I could to learn everything I can about the wrestling business. I still do it today and try to learn something every show, or every opportunity. The veterans who "knew" me always got questions as to the whys and hows of the business side of things. So when so much effort is put into something you are not allowed to show or capitalize on, it can get rather frustrating. And that frustration builds over time. Mine built to the level where I was no longer enjoying the little I was allowed to do. And that in a small nutshell is why I needed to leave. What’s next for me now? Well, school is the first thing on the list. I am going to take a broadcasting and TV production course and see if the other side of the camera is as exciting as being in front of it. Wrestling-wise, I will continue to work indies and instruct at Scott D’Amore’s Can-Am wrestling school in Windsor Ontario. So I am not gone form the biz -- just looking at things a little differently. Hope this helps to shed some light for those who have asked. If you have any other questions I can always be reached at my website www.johnnydevine.net, or MySpace at www.myspace.com/canadiandevine or emailed at johnnydevine@shaw.ca. All the best with your future endeavours and yours is truly a butt that won’t quit! Be safe and stay hot! Johnny Devine EDITOR'S NOTE: "Hotshot" Johnny Devine's column will run whenever he delivers on SLAM! Wrestling (his last being nearly a year ago). Be sure to visit every day to see if he's come through! For more on Devine's career, see his biography in our Canadian Hall of Fame. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Simply put, my job is/was to make others look good. Did I do a good job of this? Yes. Sometimes too good? Yes." Yeah, you really made Rave look good at BFG when you bought broke his neck - yup. I bet he's sitting in a hotel right now going "Wow, my neck hurts but Devine sure did make me look good"

I don't blame Devine, jobbing every night would suck when he has more talent then some of the people being pushed.

Oh please, you guys are full of shit. One accident and Devine is Public Enemy #1? If TNA didn't throw all their good workers into a ten minute spotfest and say "have at it" the opportunity for a mistake wouldn't have opened up... so blame your precious TNA for Rave's injury.

Devine was never good, he got all horrible looking after he was stabbed second off they said his neck aint broken Yeah I don't know ANYONE who looks particularily good after being stabbed I don't blame Devine, I myself have been saying it for a LONG time now that he can do so much more and so much better than what he was allowed... I noticed he pulled all the stops out at BFG and as for the running Devine Intervention, Part of that was Rave's fault because if you noticed he wasn't exactly cooperating and it looks like Rave almost went too far back when Devine picked him up so Devine had to shift this guys entire weight so he was in a proper position and... yeah, it's as much Rave's fault as it is Devine's Hopefully I see Devine in the INCREDIBLY near future now that he's gone from TNA and I can officially stop caring about TNA now

That is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever read. There is no way to blame TNA for that botched spot. TNA pays these guys to "have at it". Once the performers are in the ring it is up to them to be as safe as possible. That looked like a 50/50 botched spot to me. Devine was going really aggressive and Rave was selling a little too hard. That was just a train wreck. Luckily it looks like Rave will be fine.

The environment was unsafe from the getgo. Perhaps if they used the X-division wrestlers as wrestlers and not as spotmonkeys they'd be in better control of their environment and have better communication. I mean would it destroy PPV buys if TNA gave a match like Jimmy Rave vs. Alex Shelley 12-15 minutes just for the hell of it? I know I'd rather see that over consecutive multiman spots that don't mean much in the context of a match.

So, obviously it wasn't the "match" that's the problem nor TNA. Devine could've easily re-set the move instead of trying to do a running on imo.

You guys are so bitter. Wasn't he in like an Ultimate X match where he was basically killed in? Every spot he was in, he went the extra mile to make it look better. Now he leaves TNA and you are saying all this crapbecause of an accident that happened in a dangerous match to begin with?
And SG, saying that it's not the match is just idiotic. I mean in a dangerous match, dangerous spots are going to happen. Hell even in an ordinary match, dangerous spots can happen. But with the match adding to it, makes it far worse. Samoa Joe gives Kurt Angle a concussion with a kick to the head. Brock Lesnar broke Hardcore Hollys neck. Kurt Angle broke Holly's arm. Do we hate these guys for it happening? No. It was an accident. So get off Devine for an accident that happened in a dangerous match.

I don't blame the guy, I can definitely see why it was sucking the life out of him, hell I've been saying for HOW long that they weren't using him like I know he can be used and just recently people started to open their eyes at the little slivers of brilliance he was allowed to show (Ultimate X with the Guns and Lethal, pretty much everything since joining Team 3D)

So get off Devine for an accident that happened in a dangerous match. The thing was it had absoultey NOTHING to do with the match. Did you watch the show? It's not like he did it off the Ayslum. He ran with him which I think was the problem. If he wouldn't have ran I don't think he would've dropped Rave as bad. I'm not saying "off with his head" for slipping but you can't blame the match type since it could've happended in any match. The whole comment about making people "look to good" came off a little to cocky in my book - I'm not saying it's all Devine's fault (because it's not) but he was super sloppy in that match the way I see it. Also, "Wasn't he in like an Ultimate X match where he was basically killed in? Every spot he was in, he went the extra mile to make it look better" - no my friend. It was a botch where he landed on his neck. You guys are so bitter. Wasn't he in like an Ultimate X match where he was basically killed in? I don't give a flying crap about the guy not praising TNA; due to the fact I couldn't give a crap about him. I bet if it was Consquences Creed or Shiek Abdul Bashir etc who botched that move everyone would've been bashing them. That's the way wrestling fans work. Edit: Also, I'm not "hating" on Devine because of an accident. The way he worded "Did I do a good job of this? Yes. Sometimes too good? Yes." - was just a - umm... weird way to put something. I was just saying (in a nutshell) that Rave probally not worried about him "looking good" as he is about being dropped on his neck. Yeah, it could've happended to anyone but to say that after a slip-up like that's a weird thing to say. I'm not saying off with his head for making a mistake - they happen - just saying that a day or so afterwards is just wierd.

I don't give a flying crap about the guy not praising TNA; due to the fact I couldn't give a crap about him. I bet if it was Consquences Creed or Shiek Abdul Bashir etc who botched that move everyone would've been bashing them. That's the way wrestling fans work. Devine ran with him probably to retain his balance... going ahead with the move was probably a mistake but looked cool and no one questioned it until now that he's saying why he's on the way out... seems far too convenient to me... As for if Creed botched a move, yeah I'd be all over him but because one of my biggest problems with him is that he acts very green in the ring and if he were to botch a move it would further prove my point... As for Bashir, I don't know how I'd react at the time of his botch but I probably would shrug it off like I tend to shrug off most botches... the only part of Devine's Devine Intervention that LOOKED botched was the lift... which is also on Jimmy Rave, who looked like he wanted to go TOO far back and Devine had to re-adjust for that oversight by Rave... Super sloppy in that match? Devine made more fans in that match it seemed than he made in his entire run with TNA... Now that he's leaving it seems like the people who were just starting to say "I don't mind Devine, it seems like he's under-rated" are now calling for his head... it was an extremely dangerous spot in the first place, he also did another crazy spot in the match that had countless people hanging around here applauding him AT THE TIME but again, now that he's not handing TNA a bushel of roses upon his exit, he's public enemy #1 on the TNA board... All I know is that the only reason to watch iMPACT is gone and I can effective immediately sell my copy of the iMPACT game... As for the "Botch" in the Ultimate X match...

Maybe, but not from me. You know I don't like him - I'm not saying off with his head dude. The comment he made just kinda hit me the wrong way. I wish Devine the best in the future and glad to see he's going back to school. But, I'm not going to shed no tears for him leaving as I don't like him. I've said that time and time again. We can go back and forth on this whole situation so if you want to keep going - have fun but I'm done. I told my opinion, no use in keep repeating myself.

My god,it was a accident,he was going to do the Devine Intervention he pulled he up and rave went to far back then Devine had to back up or else he would have dropped him then he came down wrong,so there for it's Rave and Devine's fault for the botch, rave isn't severely hurt or nothing he didn't break his neck just injured it,and if it was creed or lethal who botched the move on rave no one would be pissed off,and as far as the Ultimate X match goes with out devine in that match there would have been zero spots, did lethal fall off the ladder on to the tables no,did lethal do the hurricarana off the cables no,he made one mistake when he came off the move by landing on his head, but it made it look allot cooler, and you say it was "cocky" of him saying
"Did I do a good job of this? Yes. Sometimes too good? Yes. "
Well it's true he put way to many people over by jobbing, but it was his job,he done what they told him to do,they never let devine even really wrestle to his full ability,he has been in TNA far more then Bashir,Creed,Lethal,Dutt, or Rave, yet he still doesn't get any TV time or a push, why?,cause he doesn't have a Gimmick, thats the only reason why he didn't get over.

You sir are my hero Do you mind if I borrow that Devine thing in your sig? I was personally starting to get EXTREMELY bothered with Devine being in matches with Lethal because you just KNEW Lethal was going to win and Devine was going to take the fall if possible... ALA the match on the iMPACT game

I wouldn't even bother reading all that. If I wanted to fall asleep I would just watch one of his matches.
