I just watched a few matches off my Hulk Hogan Ultimate Anthology after it sitting on my shelve for a few years. The first match is Hogan vs. Andre and Hogan bodyslams Andre like no problem. So why was Wrestlemania 3 when he did it such a big deal when he did it 8 years prior in the same company.

I've always thought, that it's been made a big deal just becuase it was at the biggest stage of them all.

Because most people didn't remember that... In fact many people had never even seen it at that point...
Also, Andre was substantially bigger in 88

A lot of people dont remember that WM3 was also like the 5th time Andre was slammed by somebody. One of those "dont mention it and maybe nobody will remember" factors that they use to try and build a storyline

yh its just an iconic moment - WWF really gave it all the glamour it needed - the slam that echoed throughout the world etc.

At the time, the WWF took a lot of liberties in promoting the match. They claimed Andre was undefeated for 15 years, which wasn't true. They made it out like this was the first time Andre and Hulk were ever opponents, which was obviously not true either. And as pointed out already in this thread, Andre had been bodyslammed numerous times by many guys.
Even the non-WWF wrestling magazines at the time (PWI, The Wrestler, etc.) immediately started running photos from Hogan vs. Andre in 1980 on the cover of their magazines during the WM3 hype, which as a kid, immediately made me wonder why the WWF was making this out to be such a first-time blockbuster. That was one of the first times I started to realize the WWF took liberties with history.

that match is on WWE 24/7 right now. Andre won for those who matter.

Because WWE likes to act like all it's fan have short term memory loss. Haha. Because amazingly the vast majority do. Cept of course people who post on boards and such where they are reminded all the time about stuff.

Stan Hansen is more important to wrestling than Hogan IMO. Not marketing or bringing wrestling to a new level, which I will never take away from Hogan, but I just feel that Hansen had more to offer.

Andre had put on a lot of weight by the time WM3 came round, plus Hogan was a far bigger star. WWE made out like they had never fought before, andre was undefeated & never been slammed & the fans lapped it up which made the moment seem more important than it truly was.

I read somewhere that Jerry Lawler beat Andre in like 1979 or something and Vince McMahon Sr went ballistic.

It's in Lawler's book, PWI put him on the front cover for the first time headline was something like "The night a midget beat the Giant" I think he beat him by DQ or countout, wasn't a pin. Vince Sr was livid & to calm him down PWI had to do a later coverstory about how the Giant was the only undefeated star!!

Harley Race, El Canek, and Kevin Sullivan all pinned him too... Sullivan being the craziest one. I'm sure others have as well, but I don't know who right off. I didn't even know Hansen did till you posted that.

More important to YOU, maybe... but definitely not to wrestling as a whole. I love Stan Hansen, he is one of my all-time favorites but to say he is more important than Hulk Hogan is a joke considering Hogan is one of the biggest stars in wrestling ever.

During the 24/7 broadcast of Showdown at Shea Mick Foley says Harley Race has a black and white picture of himself slamming Andre hanging on his wall at his house....that would be pretty cool to have
