And I've NEVER had a personal death in my lifetime. I've never been hit so hard with something than I have today. I really don't know how to take this, but I think it's best to remember the good times and keep the memory of him alive. Now, to continue this thread...have you ever had a close family member/friend die? Tell your stories if you wish. I'd like to see how other people deal with what I'm going through. And for entertainment purposes, here is some videos we've made in high school. We do short skits for "Pirate TV", our news show in school. Some of you may find them stupid, some of you may like them. I'm sorry, man. I wish I could say something that would help.
I feel fortunate that I have not experienced the death of someone close to me yet, though I know it could come any day (one of my best friends has an extremely serious disease).
My condolences go to you and his family.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. Life's shitty sometimes.
I've lost both grandmothers to breast cancer, which has motivated me to go into campaigning for cancer research etc., which I am really passionate about. I hope I'm making them proud.
My advice for grief is to just do what they'd want you to do.

a lot of my family other than my parents and a few others died before I was even a teenager. Being so young it didn't really hit me hard, I just kinda went with and accepted that it's just what happens.
I've not had anyone close die since being older.

Lost my grandfather back in March. He was like a father to me and my siblings. We all took it extremely hard, but at least he lived a long life. Sorry for your loss.

Wow. I'm really sorry to hear that, dude. It's good to see that you have the right mentality over it, by trying to remember all of the good, instead of focusing on the bad. I can't really say that I've experienced a loss as close as a best friend, so I can only imagine how you're feeling right now.

death is a mother  er...they always say about like the 5 stages of greiving or whatever, its kinda accurate...just do you right now, do and feel whatever comes as natrually to you, because at these times youre not going to want to repress any kind of emotions, you know, just let it all flow. its kind of a confusing thing though...you could be laughing at the good times one second and tearing up the next, just gotta stay strong and handle the situation as YOU would handle it...idk if that made a lot of sense on the surface but i think it did |

I had a teacher that I grew really close to die in May of this year, the only day I really cried hard in school, didn't go to any classes, just sat in the office and couldn't comprehend what happened.

The death of a friend is something entirely removed from a family member's death. When I was 18, my first real friend was murdered at the age of 20. Not a day goes by that I don't wonder what he'd be up to today is some cold hearted individual hadn't taken everything he had away from him.

My grandfather passed away about a month ago, and I can also relate in the never having a major death mentality. My grandmother died 15 years ago this December, but I was 8 at the time, and considering I'm 23 now, I can't remember much about it. I don't even think I could comprehend it at the time anyway.
Long story short, my grandfather was a funeral director and owned the funeral home. My family lives in one of the apartments above the business, so I've experienced a ton of funerals since we moved here when I was 5. Over the past few years I've helped out a lot doing the busy work around the funeral home. I've been a pallbearer for dozens of funerals of people I didn't know, purely because they didn't have many family members capable of carrying the casket. I've been on the business side of it so many times...but nothing prepares you for being on the grieving family side of it. I didn't know how to handle it because I never knew the deceased.
My advice would be to not force yourself to feel bad. Are you sad right now? Sure, but don't feel like you should feel worse, if that makes sense. Just take it as it comes, and it all works itself out.

i lost a good friend four years ago. it absolutely crushed me and my family. we were inseperable from grammer school through high school. i saw the direction he was going our senior year so i slowly started distancing myself from him. we did our share of drinking and drugs but he was always looking for the better high and always wanted to be that bad ass "cool" kid. he ended up dying from a heroin overdose while in rehab in salt lake city, utah. even worse was that he was like a month away from his release. i can't even begin to tell you how hard it was to see him laying there in his coffin knowing he'll never wake up again. he was a good kid with a good heart. all he needed was some guidance, more than i was able to provide.
sorry to hear about your loss. it's gonna be tough and it's gonna hurt. just cherish the pictures, videos, and memories.
i keep this quote on the back of the pictures i have of him...
"til the day we meet again, in my heart is where i'll keep you friend
