What's everyone's opinions of Frank Miller stuff? I presumed he was a well liked writer, but he's seemingly done a lot of meh stuff as mentioned on Linkara's Atop the forth wall.

Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, Man Without Fear, Born Again, and Sin City are essential reading.

Uncanny X-Force is so ridiculously good, it's blowing my mind. I can't wait for the conclusion to the Dark Angel Saga next month, as well as the follow-up. It's just managed to crescendo beautifully and I'm fully invested in the next issue.

Hi! I'm a no0b to comics. My dad and older brother were into comics at one point in there lives. My brother would go on and on about how The New Warriors was genius. My dad grew up on the DC classics. He has a cool folder with all his batman comic's and cards in it. I know about the heroes, Marvel and DC, I even read Wildcats from Image. I never really liked it. it was an impulse buy when we were at a comic convention. I never had the type of comic that i latched on to. I never had a hero or group that i really liked. I want to really get a recommendation and start to get into that comic.

I want to really get a recommendation and start to get into that comic. It's only 12 issues, but I would definitely start with Watchmen. It was the first comic book/graphic novel I've read and it really got me into comics. After that, if you're a Batman fan, I highly recommend The Long Halloween.

Didn't really want to make a thread to ask a simple question, that can go here. Anyone have a list of the order that the Marvel Civil War books should be read in, to get the full story in the order it progresses.

Does anyone currently read any G I Joe comic books and if so are they worth picking up? I did pick up a TPB G I Joe vs. Transformers and I'm loving it so far.

Alan Moore's Swamp Thing is some of the best writing, I've had the pleasure to read.

been reading walking dead and the court of owls batman books. DC's death in the family comics are pretty good, too!

Probably stuff that people know already, but...
Frank Miller's 300, Sin City and The Spirit (to a lesser extent) are fantastic...took a while to really absorb the writing and the art; just superb.
Alan Moore's V For Vendetta and Watchmen are essential reading...some incredibly original and subversive stuff here...
...as a kid I was like others; read popular titles between DC and Marvel but eventually grew to prefer Marvel...then when Spawn came out relished in certain Image titles like Spawn, Savage Dragon and Witchblade. I also liked some stuff from Dark Horse, Top Cow and WildStorm (mainly for Gen13)
I've been away from comics for some time, but am slowly easing back into it.

Ive never been big on comic books but my sister got her hands on 5 large boxes full of comics from someone she knows. I havent been able to pick them up yet because of work schedules and now snow, but is there any suggestions on anything "specific" I should look for in the boxes? Id venture to guess they're all within the past 10 years or so.

I'd recommend the IDW Ghostbusters comic series. They take place in the unspecified mid-to-late 90s, leaving off from the events of the Ghostbusters video game (released in 2009 - set in 1991). If you're afraid these will ruin the Ghostbusters you remember, don't be. The characters are assumed to be the same versions from the movies, with the same wit and humor. Tons of Easter eggs on every page for the die-hard Ghostheads like me. Below is the order in which to read, if you want to start from the beginning... www.idwpublishing.com/ghostbusters-2016-reading-guide/
