Welcome to the OFFICIAL WF Politics thread. Feel free to read, express, debate, or just vent your political thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Now, I understand that when it comes to the people that govern and control the world around us, it's easy to be very passionate. However, there is a difference between being passionate and just being a jerk. Let NO MAN be denied his right to express his thoughts about the political world around him. But please keep your debates or rebuttals in a respectful manner. In a time when we, the people, need to work together for our future, there is no room for anything less. I will personally be monitoring this thread, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to make things easier to find, please let me know. One idea I had was to start off by simply asking.....what are you? Democrat? Republican? Independent? Canadian? WHAT ARE YOU? And please, don't feel constricted to a one word answer. I know to some people, its not that simple. And thats just fine. Let the deliberating begin! - OFFICIAL WF POLITICS THREAD - The first sign of insults and fighting, and this is gone. That is all. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND USERS.

I usually vote for candidates I feel will best serve based on their platforms and policies, but I tend to lean conservative..I am a McCain supporter, and obviously felt he best for the country at this time..

The first sign of insults and fighting, and this is gone. That is all. That I don't get. There are insults and fighting on the sports board all the time and it's tolerated to a certain extent. I don't see why they can't do the same thing on this board.

I'm socially liberal, but I am an independent thinker and I'm open more ideals than just what the left has to offer.
I will vote for the best candidate regardless of party (voted Obama for president and R- Gordon Smith for senator)and will weigh in the positives and negatives of every measure regardless of what side of the isle they fall on.

However, most of the people in the sports forum who post regularly, have come to an understanding with each other, and none of them take it personally. Also, this being in the Lounge, you have a much higher number of people visiting, and a generally younger group as well, not to mention more people from outside of the US. I also think sports of more often fact, rather than politics. It's a fact the Raiders suck, but whether or not Obama sucks is much more opinion related. It's not necessarily fair, but it's my answer.

Politics = fighting and insulting.
THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF POLITICS.

Politics is also very controversial and more personal too than sports, but my thing is, what if someone wants to deliberately sabotage the thread?
Should the regular responsible posters be punished?

Yeah, but I can go in the sports board and call Lorenzo a bandwagon riding, Yankee apologists who can't see straight through his pinstripes and that's ok. Why can't I come on here and call Slappy a tree-hugging, bleeding heart, socialist/commie?

There's a clear difference between fighting and debating.
I'd like to use Hulk and Slappy as an example. For pretty much the entire Presidential Election thread, these two discussed and debated their views and beliefs on different things. Neither stooped as low as to insult the other, and maintained a respectful understanding.
I think if we can get more users that can discuss topics as such, and have that same understanding with one another, we shouldn't have anything to worry about.

If a board was given to reclouring figures in photoshop, And a board isn't given for the few who want to discuss politics. Then that's kinda sad.
I, Myself am left wing and i support the irish party Fine Gael, It's pronounced Fina-Gale. I am a member of Young Fine Gael and my faimly has links to politics and mainly the orgins of Fine Gale for over 100 years. My uncle Brendan Mc Gahon was a outspoken irish TD who got into trouble for comments about the I.R.A
This apparently has rubbed off on me and my brother, My brother is the founded of the YFG group for my region, He got elected onto the Louth Junior County Council and then was elected chairman, After his two year term i ran in my school and also got elected to the Council and also ran for chairman, I lost out by one vote. However afterwards to T.D's who were at the event came up and said my speech was phenomenal for someone my age, And cited " culture's sticking together " and that it was a " sham " i was not chairman.
So, thats me and politics, i also took a heavy intrest in the US elections, Since about Summer 07 and had been pulling for obama.
Thats it, i guess

I'm still going to be a rep despite the fact that I did vote for Obama.
