The AI or "Director" randomly creates all the situations, so on one playthrough you may run into a massive horde and a Tank zombie in a particular area, and another time there will only be a few regular zombies. It's completely different every time.

That makes much more sense, thanks. So basically it's randomly simulated?

Pretty much, yeah.
I played the demo last night over at a friend's house and I am sold on this game. One of our battles was so intense that it's hard to describe word-for-word, but I'll try...
We were near the end of the demo, in the room with the control that says "Use control to open the door. Be ready to face the horde!" or something like that. So we get ready, I open the door, and here they come! Massive amounts of zombies come pouring in from everywhere. Me and the two NPC's (Louis and Francis) were surrounded on all sides. My friend was swarmed as well but he got separated from the rest of us. Then one of those tongues came out and got me. I was getting pulled back for about 10 seconds before Francis killed it, but it had drained all of my health so I was laying on my back picking zombies of with my pistol. I'm yelling at my buddy, "Help me, dammit!" all the while he's going, "S**t, s**t, s**t!". It was one intense fight, but it was one of the most fun moments I've had in a video game.
I also felt the wrath of one of those "witches". In online gaming terms, I got "00ber pWNed".

I have the game and it is so ing scary. I'm playing it offline co-op with my brother and the intensity is so overwhelming. We're playing on Advanced which makes the game heaps more difficult than Normal... what I have been playing the demo on. We're at the 3rd level of the first set and it just gets scarier and scarier. A definite good buy.

See that's the thing... there was never one instance in the demo that leads me to believe that it's going to be scary... just non-stop balls-to-the-wall action...
That's pretty much it. I got it on PC and it's just intense but not ever frightening. Maybe a bit jumpy too like when one of my friends shoots a smoker right beside me but that's about it.
I bought it. It has it's "Oh My God" moments that make you jump a little, but not anything where I'd turn off my XBOX in fear. Also, I can't play with my one friend anymore. We sound too much like an old married couple.
"Well, maybe we would have made it in the truck if I wasn't getting beaten to death by a tank." "Who's fault is that for running to the other side of the map?" "Yours, because you didn't stay with the group."
Thank god for group private chat though. Our friends were getting a kick out of it.

I've been depressed, I've played through two scenarios so far, No Mercy and the second one, where you have to get to the boat, and both times, i had a full team, but nobody else had/used a mic. Defeats the point to me
