JR Speaks on Fans Cheering Orton Over Batista, SSeries & More 11/25/2008 by Nick Paglino
Jim Ross is back again with another blog entry over at JrsBarBQ.com. Below are some highlights:
-Ross on the fans cheering Randy Orton: "It was obvious that many in Boston enjoyed seeing Randy Orton beat Batista. Orton is young and defiant like many fans. I'm curious to see how this matter materializes. Orton is an anti-hero and anti-heroes sell tickets in today's world."
-Ross on Taker's anniversary: "Special night for the Undertaker, as Sunday commemorated Taker's WWE debut in 1990. What a run this man has had. I have much respect for longevity in this business. That's the true mark of a HOF career in my eyes. Headlining major events over the long haul is an amazing accomplishment."
-Ross on another Survivor Series milestone: "Did anyone out perform HBK Sunday night? Michaels's first Survivor Series was in 1988 and he's still as good as anyone in the biz." ======= I thinnk the reason Orton is getting cheers over batista is the same reason Cena got heat for so long. Batista is getting boring and stale and Orton is new and fresh to the fans bc he wasn't around for so long . I think Orton will always be a heel though i'd love to see him take a stab @ an austin like persona , the badass quasi heel that everybody cheers kinda deal . As for Batista...he needs to go heel for sure , i think he needs something new or else he is going to turn into mysterio ...a guy who everybody pops for but does the exact same thing for years...just my opinion
thoughts?

I agree. Orton is one of my favorites right now and would enjoy to watch him over Batista any day.

Exactly, as I said in another thread the Austin Character would still work today. Orton is a heel but the fans want to get behind him. We don't like that "I do this for all you fans" and "all you fans made us" BS that Cena and at times 'Tista always say. We want someone who just wants to kick ass and that doesn't have corny promo's.

- I wouldn't exactly call Orton "new and fresh", but I'd absolutely take him over Batista. I was one of the fans cheering Orton that night. The crowd went ballistic when he stalked Batista and hit the RKO. Plus, I mark for his music, alone. He's got a great look, he's a superb athlete, stellar on the mic..
- I completely forgot that it was Undertaker's anniversary.
- I definitely noticed HBK that night. He's one of my favorites, and I haven't really seen him wrestle a match of big caliber since Wrestlemania 14 in '98. So it was good to see him on Sunday night.

orton is 10-15x better than cena and 20-30x better than batista. I like Orton. He honors the legends, but is new. He's talented the ring. He should be the top dog in the past 4 years, NOT cena and batista. I'd love for Stonecold to fight Orton at Wrestlemania 25. HBK is the greatest of all time. I really want him to win the big one again, I wish he beat jericho. I wish HBK would win the title at wrestlemania some year, maybe in an elimination chamber, I just love HBK so much.

Exactly. People pay money to be entertained, not to have some windbag go through the “We love to entertain you” speech. Let the entertainment speak for itself, and if it can’t then that’s horribly pathetic. Several times during that promo I shook my head in shame.

Are you people on drugs or just have a selective memory?
Orton is "fresh and new" compared to Batista? Um, they debuted around the same time. They were part of the same group. How is Orton "newer" than Batista?
Orton is fresh? What makes him fresh? His God Awfully boring promos or his 15 minute headlock resthold?
I swear! Some of you need to think before you type!
PS: Mods, can someone get rid of the jackass in this thread with the obnoxiously long signature that is stretching out the format here?

I like Orton more than Batista, but both are fine with me. I don't really see what's wrong with Batista. He has the look (roids I know), promos are passable, matches are generally good (especially when against top talent), and he is easily marketable. I do like Orton more, but I'm fine with Batista.

Uhh he just returned not that long ago, so of course he is fresh to us who watch Raw. besides his character is not stale like Batista's is. Orton is like developing a feud with everyone it seems. He cost Punk the title, started a small feud with Priceless, is currently feuding with Batista and also wants to be in the World title picture. Also the fact that Orton gets more cheers than Batista for the last several weeks must prove something. No one likes the goodie good face anymore.

First off, Orton was kicking people in the head 2 years ago. Have we forgotten Cena's dad? How is him kicking Punk in the head "fresh and new"? Secondly, you're saying Orton is fresh compared to Batista only because the creative team is giving him more to do? How does that make Orton better than Batista? Seems to me that if Batista is not getting over, it's because creative is putting more of an investment into Orton than Batista. Batista was the number one face on RAW just 3 months ago when he put Cena in the hospital. So when Creative gives Batista something good to do, he'll start getting cheered again.

Try last year. And look at how well Raw did with Batista as the main face for a few months. Horrible. Ratings dropped even lower. Orton's just entertaining, Batista is not. Batista tries being funny on the microphone and it doesn't work. Orton can get you to really hate him or really love him. Going back to Orton's character it's little things like his facial expressions that make you really get into a character like how he's thinking and what not and Orton does that the best imo. Batista is just sooo boring. I mean ok he is stale but look at guys like Undertaker who are stale and have been for a long time. Atleast Undertaker has kick ass matches all the time where as Batista is not even good in the ring. Batista can't cut a promo to save his life. His little laughing at the beginning of every promo is annoying. He is not funny. While Orton doesn't have the best mic skills by far, he is much better than Batista and loads better than he was back in '04. He's also gotten alot better in ring as well. (Not directed at you, btw) And I love how everyone seems to bring up the headlock thing. He even said in an interview that he always does the headlock just because he finds it amusing that people on the 'net always bitch about it. Now I know we are not talking or were not talking about in ring talent and we were talking about there character and what not but still wanted to bring that up.

Orton is not fresh and new, it's just that Batista and Cena are so typical that it annoys the hell out of alot of people. All Batista every does is cut a promo where he says he wants his title back, he's been champ before and wants it back, blah blah blah. Cena's character is practically BEGGING the fans to love him. It's pathetic. If you hate Cena, he's just making you hate him more. and besides, Orton is Orton...that's why people cheer him

Were not gonna see orton on a beer truck but jr is right. wining after win gets boring and stale. Look at rey, cena , batista, and hhh. Orton's persona is great and is fresh and unexpected points. It would be like if the redsox and patriots one title after title after title year after year....it becomes boring unless your a fan of them or 10 yrs. old.
