Does anyone else here hate that the comic book industry is dominated by moronic superhero books, thus confining the entire medium to some geeky hobby rather than it flourishing into a viable and respected form of storytelling? It bugs me, anyway.
The industry is all about the latest Awesome Ultimate Incredible Crisis Ever and anything decent in comics just gets trampled underfoot. Those superhero books are just continuity porn for idiots. I suspect that half the people that buy them don't even read them. I wouldn't even mind if the prime audience for this tripe was children, but it's not - the main audience that buys mainstream superhero crap is adult males (with learning disabilities and/or severely stunted emotional growth).
Anyway, let's hear it for good comics. Preacher! Sandman! Watchmen! The Walking Dead! Punisher Max! The Boys!

I'm modifying this since SYE took my thoughts (as always, sweetie)
To me you seem like some hipster comic book yuppie who doesn't realize that comic books are as big as they are today because of the super hero genre. Comics didn't start off that way, but they sure as hell got their popularity because f it. Yeah, Preacher, Sandman, yadda yadda are good. But if you can't read Daredevil, Captain America, or the DC New Frontier and see the real elements of the world that carry through into some "smarmy" superhero book then I am sorry for you. If you can't see the genius in the ending of Superman: Red Son then you might not like good writing period. But if you run out of non-hero books to read, maybe you should go back to Starbucks and order some $4 facsimile of real coffee.

The way I see it your an ignorant bastard!

As it happens, I'm not a hipster or a yuppie, I've drank coffee less than ten times in my entire life, and I've never set foot in a Starbucks. But if you need to believe that I do those things because it helps you sleep easier at night after "reading" about a guy with a magic green ring that can only be defeated by the colour yellow, go for it.
As for the "you must not realize" nonsense: You must have missed the part in my initial post where I credited superheroes for exactly where the comic book industry is today.
Alas, I suspected the search for any discerning comics readers would be fruitless, given that most discerning readers in general won't touch comics with a bargepole because of all the Infinite Final Last Mega Superstar Crisis superhero BS that has become synonymous with the artform. One day, it would be nice to see comic books being the domain of people more likely to have a girlfriend than a Stormtrooper helmet. But today is sadly not that day.

The way I see it your an ignorant bastard! And indeed, you would be the expert on the matter of ignorant bastards because you've missed my point by a good three miles. I don't mind the superhero genre - it's primarily for kids, yes, but it can be fun. Some very good stories have been told in the genre. Rather, it's what the superhero genre in comics has become that is so sickening. Occasionally, there'll be a half-decent superhero miniseries snuck onto the shelves, probably calling itself an "Elseworlds" book so as to not upset the bastions of The Impeccable Superhero Continuity (that gets rewritten every year). But for the most part, it's just that same old continuity porn that's designed for people to "collect" rather than actually read. And the reason that it went that way is because the genre itself ran out of decent, original ideas for stories for the most part, and instead decided to just appeal to a generation of man-children that never grew up (and don't give a crap about quality).

I have both a wife, and an extensive comic book collection that includes not only the "BS" you speak of, but also books like Preacher and The Boys. Perhaps you missed the signature I had with both Lil' Hughie and Butcher for several weeks. The search is over. You are what puts comic fans in a negative light.

You are what puts comic fans in a negative light. Yes, I personally have gone back in time and made the world see comic books as some childish nonsense, and made the world see the comic book audience as a bunch of superhero-fellating inbreds. 'Fraid not. When it comes to why "comic fans" are "in a negative light" - hell, Baby put herself in the corner. As I said, big-time comic book buyers are generally "collectors" with no ability to discern good stories from bad (if they even read them). Thus some of them are likely to have good books in amongst all the bad somewhere, they just can't tell the difference or don't care. They can, however, tell you how many earths there are in the DCU and how Wally West became the Flash. And that's why they are in that ol' negative light.

You're right - I bought Preacher and buy The Boys because I'm secretly hoping they'll surpass the value of the death of the Stacys. How wrong I was.

Id have to agree with him when he says how he hates that some people collect certain comics and not read them. There's a guy at my job who collects certain books with hope that one day they will be worth something and then when I ask him if he read said books he just say, "Oh I didn't read them...." I read superhero books as well as the the not-superhero types, with 100 Bullets and Anita Blake I am enjoying that. As well as Marvels Moby Dick they put out. Everyone is entitled to what they like and what they don't like. People should broaden their reading though as there are a lot of great non-superhero stories out there. For me, superhero stories are fun but when I want something on street level there's always 100 Bullets or Wanted or The boys waiting for me in my bookshelf.

I didn't realize comic book fans had an indie crowd as well...just goes to show someone has to be pretentious.

i don't usually post anymore since i got degraded with this 'bad trader slogan' but i felt the need to voice up seeing this.
pc83uk, i mostly agree with you on the shitty stereotyping of comics in the mainstream light as only 'super hero' literature. however, for every market there are specifics missed. one could say the same argument that you're providing for the difference between the cartoon WWE and the ever-so-elite ROH...in fact many have said such arguments. it definetly sucks. i enjoy a lot of super hero comics though, but there is no argument in the fact that the majority is utter shit. however, having been a fan of comics for nearly 15 years now, i think comics have greatly improved for the most part - more knowleadgable readers, more focus on indie work, and less bullcrapsci-fi super heroes.
however, it is almost needless to say to a third person reading this thread that the majority of you posting in here are elitists who are 'apparently' enlightened with great wisdom and knowledge...i am not trying to call you said members stupid; simply, you are not as smart as you believe you are and it's really aggravating to have to witness a series of superiority complexes battling for the top.
