There is another video on youtube that is months old that has a song made before Viva La Vida and it sounds exactly the same.

I doubt anybody is going to think so because nobody besides people who play guitar will know who Joe Satriani is.

I'm not really convinced. Especially when they were played together I could hear a strong difference. There is some similarity but to claim Coldplay are ripping off Satriani goes a little too far.

I'm going to go with yes. There are just too many suspicious things about both this and the other instance that was brought up.

I could have sworn there was some total **** NYC indie band that claimed Coldplay ripped Viva La Vida off of them too.
Everyone is after this song.
Everytime this song gets huge success someone says they ripped them off.
Odds are, Coldplay didn't rip off shit. There are things called coincidences. I'm sure this Satriani is just looking to line his pocket and he'll do it any way how.

ugh...
The old "they ripped off another song" thing? It's not impossible for two songs to sound alike without foul play involved...

For some reason I always think "Lovers In Japan" sounds so much like something U2 would play.
But yeah, I think this is simply coincidence.

What I find funny about all this is that "Viva La Vida" is probably my LEAST favorite song on the album anyways.
And I love how Satriani waited until NOW to cry plagiarism! The album was released 6 months ago and the song has been out for at least 8 months.

They do sound really close. I don't think it was intentional thought. Didn't this happen with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in recent history?
I must be one of the few who has a fondness for Coldplay around here. They aren't amazing, but not terrible by any means. The new album has been in regular rotation since I purchased it.
