I like Coldplay, but I hate their bandwagon fans, like my freinds who love the song Viva La Vida and think it's God. Honestly, I can't see this getting anywhere. Plus, it's not like any words were taken from the song. I, and probably a lot of others, wouldn't even know who Satriani is if it wasn't for Guitar Hero

Joe Satriani is a ing god. But in no way do I think Coldplay sat there and copied him. It was by accident

Well I hope Satch wins this.
Not to mention this is the worst case of plagiarism ever.(Well they paid for the rights, but still it's embarrassing.)
About the one minute mark.

When I was in 3rd grade I wrote a story that won the Young Author award for my school. The story was about a young dinosaur whose mother is killed by a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The young dinosaur goes off on his own and meets other orphaned dino-children. They join together and ultimately end up fighting and defeating the T-Rex before finding a new home.
When I was in 4th grade Don Bluth's "The Land Before Time" was released.
This was the 1980's so there was no internet and I had no way of knowing that such a movie was even being made let alone the plot. And based on the length of time it takes to make an animated feature, obviously Bluth didn't steal my work (as if he would have people scour elementary schools looking to rip off little kid's ideas).
Coincidences happen.

Every song ever written sounds similar to at least one other song out there.

If it's such a crime to have songs sound alike, Nickelback should have been executed by now for making their songs sound like every other song they have done.

What I find funny about all this is that "Viva La Vida" is probably my LEAST favorite song on the album anyways. And I love how Satriani waited until NOW to cry plagiarism! The album was released 6 months ago and the song has been out for at least 8 months. Satriani has better things to do like be an incredibly talented Guitarist rather than listening to a Coldplay album... I'm thinking it was just brought to his attention recently...

And yet, no one ever raises a stink about the Sublime/Beatles, Bush/Green Day, or Oasis/Our Lady Peace similarities.

But the song was everywhere. Radio stations played the crap out of it. It was on commercials. It was one of the biggest songs of the year. It's very convenient timing for him to "discover" that their song has similarities to his.

If it's such a crime to have songs sound alike, Nickelback should have been executed by now for making their songs sound like every other song they have done. Nickelback should have been executed by now for making their songs sound so bad. I've never heard a worse song than "Photograph" in my life.
