André René Roussimoff was not 7'4... why do people still say he was? He was no larger than 6'10 max...dammit it still peeves me when I meet someone who thinks they know but have no real idea.

it's a part of the mystique for a legend. no matter his true height he is still truly a giant. i've seen the footage of him and when compared to the ordinary man he was incredible. his head, the width of his body ect.
his eating and drinking habits. just awesome. he's like babe ruth's called shot. doesn't matter if it happened, it's a part of folk lore.
be honored to go along with it (if you're a wrestling fan) the whole sport or whatever it's called these days was a bit of a fantasy.
your words "no REAL idea" have no place in pro wrestling.

Although i find it funny how wf/we always exaggerate the size of superstars, i have to agree with redy2die's comment below it's a part of the mystique for a legend. no matter his true height he is still truly a giant. i've seen the footage of him and when compared to the ordinary man he was incredible. his head, the width of his body ect. his eating and drinking habits. just awesome. he's like babe ruth's called shot. doesn't matter if it happened, it's a part of folk lore. be honored to go along with it (if you're a wrestling fan) the whole sport or whatever it's called these days was a bit of a fantasy. your words "no REAL idea" have no place in pro wrestling.

Also, since he never stopped Growing, that height was actually pretty close to correct by the late 80s, and I think completely right by his death.

I don't think he was 6'10, I think he was around 7'0 or 7'1, If I remember correctly he shrank a bit though.

He might have been pushing 7'4'' in full gear. Remember wrestling boots add 2-3 inches to your height. Look at the soles of most tall wrestlers boots compared to smaller guys. I would say Andre was 6'10'' ish in his early days but by 91 is I say he was a (un)healthy 7ft even

You guys do need to read some first hand accounts of meeting the man at his prime. This comes from numerous first hand meetings between Andre and basketball players, celebs, and even by pure judgement based on his matches with Hogan.
Also take a look at Meltzers books.

Andre was 6'9 - 6'10. When he would stand up, but Andre in his later years because of his desease caused great stress on his body which caused him to hunch over alot. When he was fully outstretched on the ground he was a legit 7'2. And with wrestling boots on was 7'4.

You guys do need to read some first hand accounts of meeting the man at his prime. This comes from numerous first hand meetings between Andre and basketball players, celebs, and even by pure judgement based on his matches with Hogan. Also take a look at Meltzers books. I've read just about everything Meltzer has written since the mid-80s (including the books), and you're right... Andre was said to be about 6-10 by the time he died, and was never 7-4. BUT... the majority of the public can't be expected to follow (or care about) the inner workings of the pro wrestling business to the point where they cross-check everything against the works of Meltzer. So I can't see the point in getting all worked up over the fact that a lot of people have Andre's height off by a few inches. There are a lot of wrestling "facts" out there that are questionable as far as how much is kayfabe, and how much is the truth. Some are provable, and some you just have to decide for yourself since the people involved have passed away.

Funny, just read this at 411wrestling
"2. i know this question has been asked before but, how tall is the undertaker? i heard everything from 6'6 to 6'10! on YouTube theirs a video where the undertaker meets matt hughes and he's standing next to tim sylvia who's 6'8 and he looks a few inches taller, could you help me out with this one! Happy Holidays!
Taker is a legit 6'10". I met him, Big Show, Booker T and Randy Orton at an airport once, briefly, and he towered over my 6'3". Big Show was on a whole other level. Also, Big Show's hands are even bigger than you think they are. "

Keep in mind that the whole 7'4 was first announced when he had his giant hair. All that afro puff added a good 3-4 inches to the height.

Why doesnt everyone get all pissed when they call Undertaker 6'10'", knowing that he is every inch of 6'6'' I really doubt Taker is 6'6. Taker and Kane have both stood by my best friend who is 6'5'' and they just barely were taller then him. I would give Taker 6'7'' at the most
