As most of the wrestling fans probably know, Brock Lesnar was nicknamed "The Next Big Thing" during his time in the WWE.
UFC almost always uses the nicknames that fighters give themselves or ones that are coined by Goldberg or Rogan... I have not yet heard Lesnar being referred to as "The Next Big Thing" during any of his fights. However during a UFC Unleashed broadcast, they aired the fight between Lesnar-Herring and the commentary is obviously dubbed over. Goldberg called Lesnar "The Next Big Thing" and apparently now it's his nickname.
In wrestling, the name worked perfectly because he was getting a monster push at the time. Do you think it still works for him since joining the UFC?

Well if being the UFC heavyweight champion and beating the likes of Heath Herring and Randy Couture in only 4 fights does not make you the next big thing I dont know what does....

I noticed the same thing. My question wasn't if the name fits or not but whether or not the UFC had the rights to call him "The Next Big Thing".

I doubt the WWE would be that forgetful when it was just announced that they were going to sue Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake for using the name Brutus on Hulk Hogans Celebrity Wrestling.
But you never know...maybe they sold the rights to Dana? I don't know..But I don't think Brock Lesnar needs an intimidating nickname...his real name alone is intimidating enough.

I'm thinking the name was never trademarked, because I just searched for it on the Trademark list catalog under live and dead trademarks and it did not show up in either category. Isn't Kelly Kobold using that name right now? Albeit it doesn't work for her, but I believe she is still using it.

Well, if you recall when Frank Mir defeated Lesnar, he did an interview with Joe Rogan inside The Octagon following the fight and I believe Mir called Lesnar "The Beast". But that was only a one-time thing. It never stuck around.

I think UFC should nickname Brock Lesnar "The Amazingly Well-Rounded Mixed Martial Artist" just so we can have fun watching the haters' heads explode every time they hear it in a UFC commercial or broadcast.

Something like UFC's Main Monster would be cool, I could see it...
"He is The UFC's Main Monster...He is Brock Lesnar..."
