June 5th, 2009 Alltel Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas Attendance: 16,100
This week’s Smackdown opens with a video package of last week’s main event. It showed Chris Jericho and Randy Orton beating The Undertaker and Jeff Hardy. That was followed by Orton nailing Jericho with an RKO and The Undertaker staring down the World Champion.
Jim Ross and Tazz welcome us to tonight’s exciting edition of Friday Night Smackdown. They pump up the audience for tonight’s main event which features Chris Jericho going one on one with Jeff Hardy. Also tonight, we will witness the final King of the Ring Quarterfinal match when Smackdown is visited by two ECW superstars, Jack Swagger & Rey Mysterio!
We are joined by our World Heavyweight Champion, Randy Orton. He gets in the ring and begins to talk about the ending of last week’s show. He mentions that he showed Chris Jericho exactly what a real Champion does and is leaving The Undertaker for King of the Ring as he’ll finally rid himself of the deadman. He then says that after he gets done defeating The Undertaker and Chris Jericho at King of the Ring, there will be nobody else worthy of a shot at his title. He then mentions that he has the night off tonight so he will sit back and scout Chris Jericho in the main event.
In the back, we see Chris Jericho watching this on a monitor with a serious look on his face.
Commercial Break.
We return to see Chris Jericho walk right up to Orton in the back. He tells Orton that he shouldn’t get too confident about holding his World Championship much longer because he’s taking it from him in two days. Jericho pats the belt on Orton’s shoulder and walks away, while Orton just stares him down the entire time.
Singles Match Kofi Kingston vs. John Morrison
As expected, these two young stars delivered in a big way. They both looked really impressive and the United States Title division is getting good. Morrison had the upper hand for the most part but really messed up when he decided to showboat. That allowed Kofi to nail an atomic drop, a monkey flip and his trademark leg drop. He ended it with some Trouble in Paradise and Morrison couldn’t recover from Kofi’s late flurry.
Winner: Kofi Kington (7:07) ***
As Kofi was celebrating victory, he was attacked from behind by the big man Lawrence Knight. The Brian Kendrick danced his way down the ramp with the United States Championship around his waist. Knight dropped Kofi with a spine buster and then a big powerbomb. Kendrick then got in the ring and stood over Kofi with the title raised in the air. He looked so proud of himself as if he did something.
Commercial Break.
Singles Match WWE Tag Team Champion Harry Smith w/ TJ Wilson & Natalya Neidhart vs. Scotty Goldman w/ Ace Steel
With the Second City Saints being the biggest competition to the New Hart Foundation’s title reign, this match was teaser of sorts to see how they’d fare against each other. It turned out to be good as they played off of each other’s strengths well. Smith was trying to be a serious power house, but Goldman kept frustrating him with his comedic acts. Eventually after some funny moments, Smith got serious and put away Goldman with a running power slam.
Winner: Harry Smith (5:15) **¾
The cameras cut to the back where we see Mr. Money in the Bank, Shelton Benjamin being interviewed. He’s asked about facing CM Punk at the King of the Ring in two nights. Shelton says that last month at Judgment Day, he beat Punk and he has no problems doing it again. Punk walks up to him and congratulates him on victory last month. But he’s going to get a different CM Punk this Sunday. One who won’t make the same mistake he did back at Judgment Day. One who will avenge last month’s loss to Shelton and one who will avenge last year’s loss in the King of the Ring. They stare each other down as we cut to commercial.
Commercial Break.
“Coming Home” blasts over the loudspeakers as Edge makes his way to the ring. He grabs a microphone and begins to badmouth Shane McMahon. He calls him a 100 pound little boy who is way out of his league and will be even more out of his league this Sunday when he says that he quits. Edge says that he has a preview of this Sunday set up. He calls somebody out from the back. It turns out to be a local jobber, who looks to weigh about the same as Colin Delany. The jobber is dressed in a trademark Shane McMahon jersey and windbreakers. Once he enters the ring, Edge lays him out and locks on the Edgecator submission and the jobber is seen yelling that he quits. Edge leaves the ring and brings in two chairs. He places one under the jobber’s face and places his foot on his head. Edge tells him that if he doesn’t want to be hit with a con-chair-to, he better quit. The kid quits, but Edge still nails him. Out comes Shane McMahon sprinting to the ring and he gets into another huge brawl with Edge. Security comes out and attempts to break it up as we go to commercial.
Commercial Break.
King of the Ring Quarterfinals Television Champion Jack Swagger vs. Rey Mysterio
This would be the show stealer so far as two of ECW’s finest put on a good show. Mysterio was showing ill effects after his Extreme Rules match this past Tuesday and he was favoring his back. Swagger targeted that and worked it throughout the match. Mysterio hit a few high risk moves, but made a crucial mistake. He went for the 619 but Swagger moved out of the way. Swagger then kicked him in the gut, while he was still on the apron. He hooked him and hit the gutwrench powerbomb, sending Mysterio to the floor. The crowd was stunned as Mysterio was left lying on the ground motionless as the referee counted him out.
Winner by Countout: Television Champion Jack Swagger (9:02) ***½
Swagger celebrated his win as the announcers put over how vicious that move really was.
Commercial Break.
We return to see Vickie Guerrero in the back. She’s complaining to someone off camera about how her husband Edge, has been taken out by security two weeks straight and she’s stressed out and that she needs him by her side. The camera pans out to show that she’s talking with Umaga, who is just staring at her because he can’t understand her. Vickie calls him a good listener and she leaves him looking confused.
Divas Tag Team Match Divas Champion Natalya Neidhart & Maryse vs. Maria & Gail Kim
This was your basic Divas match. The three girls besides Natalya will meet in a Triple Threat match next week to determine Natalya’s opponent for Night of Champions. She didn’t do much in this one either as she let the other three handle the work. Maryse did well for pretty much doing everything, but eventually she was put away after Kim hit her with the Happy Ending.
Winners: Maria & Gail Kim (4:52) *¾
Jeff Hardy is interviewed backstage by Josh Matthews. Jeff says that he has unfinished business with Umaga but tonight’s about something else. Tonight, he faces Jericho who will be in the World Title match at King of The Ring. Jeff reminds everybody that he is a former WWE Champion and he successfully defended that belt on the biggest stage at WrestleMania XXV. He says that a win over one of the number one contenders will vault him back to the title picture.
Commercial Break.
Singles Match Chris Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy
These two turned in a stellar main event. The match had a very old school feel to it as there was no outside interference and it was a clean, lengthy match. Jeff roared out of the gate and hit Jericho with everything he had. Jericho hit a big spinning heel kick that allowed him to take over. Following a commercial break, the two had fought to the outside, where Jeff went for his old run the guardrail attack, but Jericho caught him in the air with a Codebreaker. He slid in the ring and broke up the count, then got out and put Jeff in the ring. He covered, but Jeff got his foot on the rope. Jericho was upset and went to lock in the Walls, but Jeff reversed it into a roll up for a two count. They got up at the same time, only to have Jericho hit a second Codebreaker out of nowhere to get the victory.
Winner: Chris Jericho (12:44) ****
After the match, Jericho grabbed a microphone. He said that Orton and Undertaker will suffer the same fate this Sunday. This brings out Orton who walks into the ring. The lights go out and when they come back on Orton is out cold and The Undertaker is standing right behind Jericho. Jericho slowly turns around and gets nailed with a chokeslam from ‘Taker. Undertaker did his signature pose with the World Title in his hands as the show came to a close.

Kofi winning his match was fine, either way works. Figured Smith would win, just happy that Goldman still has a job. Like that Edge/Shane segment, I could see something like that happening. Glad Swagger won, he would make a good KOTR winner. Maryse jobbing = . Jericho/Hardy was a solid main event. Looking forward to KOTR, I just feel that maybe Batista/HHH is being done too soon.

Smackdown was good. Great opening promo. Awesome opening match with Kofi vs. Morrison, nice to see Kofi get the win, surprised, as i thought Morrison would take it. Nice to see Smith get the win over Goldman, even though i like Goldman as well. Love that Edge promo. Loving the Shane/Edge feud as well, great development and build up there. Surprised to see Swagger win the KOTR quarters match, but love how the finish was written. just awesome.Main event was good, liked the end, glad Taker was standing tall.

Good SmackDown! not the best but it was good. Kofi over Morrison is something Im not liking. I think Morrison is a Heel in this diary though. Smith over Goldman is good, like to see something at GAB. Edge b. Jobber is great. Im liking the Edge/Shane feud its been well though out. Swagger beating Rey Mysterio is torture for me. I dont mind Swagger, but not having Jeff Hardy or Rey Mysterio or even Matt for that matter on the card is bad for me. Swagger better not win KOTR. Punk or MVP to win it. Jericho vs Jeff was good nice ending with Taker aswell. Your PPVs are always my favourite reads although I feel Jeff vs Umaga is missing and The World Tag Title Match is not good enough to be on the card.

I like the Orton promo to kick off the show. I like Jericho being disgusted by the segment and then confronting Orton. Nice opening contest between two great talents. I would love to see both men get decent pushes in the future. I like Knight attacking him from behind and Kendrick just holding his title up high. I liked Harry Smith defeating Goldman as it really just makes Smith look good. I love that Shelton got time to promote his match against Punk this Sunday. I loved the Edge segment as it seemed realistic. I am happy that Shane McMahon made the save and the two men had a brawl. I loved the ending to Jack Swagger versus Rey and I am happy Swagger won that match. I didn’t care for the Vickie and Umaga segment. Nice divas tag match to really showcase a talented division. I like Hardy’s promo to hype the main event. Very happy Jericho won as he is just the better opponent. Overall, a terrific show man.

Right, I've decided that from next week's posting of RAW, I'm not going to reply to it. Or ECW. But after you post SmackDown, I'm going to do what I usually do with chosenone1989 and give RAW, ECW and SmackDown a review in one single post. It'll keep me up to date with this diary. It's good, it's just me not being able to keep a grip into it. Decent opening promo to start off the show, Randy Orton promoting the World Heavyweight Championship match for King of the Ring. Decent opening contest to kick off the show inside the ring, but I'm unsure about Kofi Kingston beating John Morrison that quick. Decent, however. Harry Smith beating Scott Goldman is fine, nothing big, really utilized as a squash, to be honest. The Second City Saints are pretty screwed in the WWE. REALISTIC. Haha. Decent 'match' with Edge, to get him ready for the I Quit match against Shane McMahon at King of the Ring. Jack Swagger beating Rey Mysterio I love. Great that Swagger is in the semi-finals of the tournament. I see him winning it all, to be honest. Maria and Gail Kim beating Natalya and Maryse is fine, nothing match. Great main event.
I really don't think you should of posted the King of the Ring poster with the card, back when the semi-final spots in the King of the Ring tournament were still yet to be announced, personally. The superstars on the poster really showed as spoilers, I know its there to make us sure that it's focusing on the newer generation of future WWE main eventers, but sort of predictable. Looking forward to the two World Championship matches. The ECW Championship bout should be interesting. Wish you'd of saved Batista vs Triple H for another time, say like The Bash or something, personally. The tournament semi-finals are looking good. Hoping for Swagger to steal it. Don't think the World Tag Team Championship match belongs there. Nine matches on a pay-per-view is a bit too much.

King of the Ring opens with a video package showing the events of the Tournament so far. It shows the road that each of the final four men had to take. It starts with CM Punk beating Tyler Black & William Regal, and then cuts to Jack Swagger beating Kofi Kingston and Rey Mysterio, followed by MVP going over Umaga and John Morrison and lastly showing Shelton Benjamin beating R-Truth and Evan Bourne. After all of that the video focuses on the World Title and WWE Title rivalries.
Our three announces team introduce themselves and welcomes us to tonight’s packed show, where we will crown the 2009 King of the Ring winner. Good ‘Ol JR and Tazz take over as we kick off the show with a Smackdown match.King of the Ring Semi-Finals: CM Punk vs. Shelton BenjaminFor the third of six Pay-Per-Views this year, CM Punk kicks off the show. He got a major ovation from the crowd and he’s arguably the most popular star on the roster. Benjamin followed to some really good heat. Just three weeks ago, these two had a classic at Judgment Day and tonight was no different. Last time, it was a lot of back and forth action, but this time around, Benjamin started very hot. After surviving some early Punk offense, he began to wear down Punk. After some rest holds, Benjamin worked him over in the corner and then nailed a big superplex. He covered yet only got two. Benjamin picked him up and set up for the Shell Bomb, but Punk reversed it into a hurricanrana sending Benjamin into the turnbuckle. He picked up Shelton and nailed his knee strike/bulldog combo. He quickly went to the apron and hit the springboard clothesline. Shelton kicked out though and Punk gave him a stiff kick to the head. He then wrapped up Shelton in a submission on the ropes, but was forced to break it before the five count. Punk was in full control and went for the GTS, only to have Shelton reverse it into a crucifix pin just like at Judgment Day only this time, Punk kicked out. They got up at the same time and Benjamin was quick enough to catch him in an Exploder. He covered and got the three count. But, the referee noticed Punk’s foot on the ropes and informed Benjamin of it. Shelton was visibly upset over this and he argued with the referee. He turned right around into a GTS from Punk, one that he couldn’t reverse. Winner and Advancing to the KOTR Finals: CM Punk (11:56) ****Punk celebrates as he moves on to the finals of the tournament tonight. Jim Ross and Tazz put over the fact that CM Punk has been having classic matches all year and that a victory in this tournament could vault him to a World Title shot.
We then cut to the backstage area where we see JBL talking with Vince and Stephanie McMahon. He tells them that it’s an injustice that somebody of his caliber is not on tonight’s card. He then demands a spot in the Six Pack Challenge for the WWE Championship at Night of Champions. Vince and Stephanie don’t take kindly to his demands and tell him that he will have to win a qualifying match on Raw like everybody else. His match will be tomorrow night against R-Truth!King of the Ring Semi-Finals: Television Champion Jack Swagger vs. Montel Vontavious Porter w/ Eve TorresECW’s Jack Swagger makes his way to the ring first to some very good heat from the crowd. MVP and Eve followed to a major pop from the crowd, about even with Punk’s pop earlier. This first time ever match proved to be very good. Swagger was very aggressive right at the start as once the bell rang he put MVP in the corner and delivered rights and lefts. He then used his strength to just throw MVP out of the corner. Swagger followed up with some mat wrestling, which he owned. MVP righted the ship when he caught Swagger running at him with an impressive overhead belly-to-belly suplex. MVP went for the “Ballin” elbow drop, but Swagger rolled out of the ring. MVP followed suit but Swagger shoved Eve in front of him as protection. MVP stopped in his tracks and that pause allowed Swagger to gain control. He threw MVP back into the ring and stomped on him. He picked him up and nailed a beautiful bridging German Suplex but MVP kicked out. Swagger got up and set up for the gut wrench power bomb, but MVP back body dropped him over and followed by hitting the end of his “Ballin” elbow drop. He also got a two count. MVP then went for the Playmaker but Swagger blocked it by hoisting MVP up and dropping him with a thunderous power bomb. He made the cover but the former United States Champion managed to kick out. Swagger was in shock. He picked up MVP and went for the Gut wrench Power bomb, but MVP again surprised everybody when he reversed it into a hurricanrana. He followed that by nailing the Drive-By to put away Swagger. Winner and Advancing to the KOTR Finals: Montel Vontavious Porter (10:22) ***½The crowd popped huge as they get to see MVP and CM Punk, two of their favorites, do battle in the King of the Ring finals. In the back, we see CM Punk watching on a monitor.
The cameras cut to Shane McMahon, in his normal jersey wrestling attire, talking with Jeff Hardy. Jeff’s telling him that in order to take out Edge he has to take risks and be his usual daredevil self. Shane then thanks him for the advice and help he’s given him lately. He tells him that he knows Jeff wants his hands on Umaga badly and he grants him a match with Umaga as the main event of this week’s Smackdown. Jeff thanks him and wishes him luck out there.World Tag Team Championship: The Technicians (c) w/ Kelly Kelly vs. Legacy w/ Ted Dibiase Jr.Legacy made their way to the ring first and they’ve been drawing some great heat lately. The Technicians follow to a good, not great, crowd reaction. Noble and Rhodes started the match, with Noble looking for a measure of revenge for his loss to Rhodes last night on Velocity. He came out firing and Rhodes wasn’t ready for his flurry as he was forced to retreat into his corner. After that, the match followed tag formula as Noble was dominated by Legacy and their quick tags and double team moves. Henning began to taunt Haas and that just angered the four time tag champ. He attempted to come in, but was stopped by the referee and that allowed more double team offense from Legacy. Eventually, Noble nailed Henning with a big Tiger Driver, but he was too tired to bridge it. He made it over and got the tag to his fresh partner. Haas came in and nailed a T-Bone throw, belly to belly suplex and then a tilt a whirl back breaker. After all of this though, Dibiase got on the apron and distracted the referee. Haas went over to stop him, but Rhodes slid in with a Title belt in his hands. He nailed Haas with it and then went outside to deal with Noble. Henning placed an arm over Haas’ body and got the three count. Winners and NEW World Tag Team Champions: Legacy (7:49) **½Legacy got some great heat from the crowd as they cheated their way to victory. Kelly and Noble came in and checked on Charlie Haas. The three members of Legacy seem to be moving on pretty well since the departure of their former leader Randy Orton as they all stood at the top of the ramp, hoisting their current Championships. And of course, let us not forget that Randy Orton is the current World heavyweight Champion.
Backstage, Josh Matthews interviews Batista about his big match with Triple H later. Batista says that if he beat Triple H before, he can do it again, only this time he plans on ending it with him for good. ECW Championship: Elijah Burke (c) vs. Mr. KennedyKennedy made his way to the ring first and got a very good reaction from the crowd. Burke followed to some tremendous heat. Kennedy was really focused on winning a big belt as he was the aggressor. The two went face to face to start the match and Burke slapped Kennedy. That made Kennedy go off as he fired away with lefts and rights and kicks that forced Burke to cower in the corner. Kennedy gives him a clean break, but then slaps him for some payback. Kennedy stayed in control despite his aggressiveness for a while. He had Burke reeling and after working him over on the outside, brought him in and nailed the Green Bay Plunge only to have Burke kick out. He was shocked and became so over aggressive that it turned sloppy. Burke capitalized on Kennedy’s failed Kenton Bomb attempt and took over. He nailed his 4-Up punch combo and back to back German suplexes but only for two counts. He then hit the Outer Limits Elbow but Kennedy got his foot on the rope. Burke waited for him to get up and he hit an STO. Kennedy slowly got up in the corner and Burke waited patiently. At the right time, he ran and went for the Elijah Express, but Kennedy moved and Burke hit the turnbuckle. Kennedy then went to follow up with the Mic Check but Burke elbowed him in the head, turned around and hit Kennedy with the Elijah Experience to end it. Winner and Still ECW Champion: Elijah Burke (13:26) ***½Todd Grisham and Matt Striker put over the fact that Burke has pinned Kennedy cleanly tonight and that it just seems that Kennedy can’t win the big one. Kennedy begins to stir and leaves the ring looking extremely disappointed.
We cut to a commercial for the Night of Champions Pay-Per-View. The showcases World Champion Randy Orton, WWE Champion Kane, Intercontinental Champion Ted Dibiase Jr., WWE Tag Team Champions The New Hart Foundation, ECW Champion Elijah Burke & Women’s Champion Victoria. The Pay-Per-View will take place on June 28th live from the ARCO Arena in Sacremento, California. The commercial mainly promotes that all 10 WWE Titles will be on the line. Triple H vs. Batista“King of Kings” is heard as Triple H makes his way to the ring with that theme music and he is in full heel mode lately. Batista was next out, obviously, and he received a huge pop, honestly the second biggest tonight just behind CM Punk and ahead of MVP. These two got face to face once the bell sounded and HHH slapped him across the face. That infuriated Batista who took him down and fired away at HHH. HHH retreated to the outside but Batista chased him down and threw him into the guardrail. He then rammed his shoulders into HHH’s gut and tossed him back in the ring. Once inside, Batista nailed a clothesline and followed that up with a powerslam. The crowd was roaring as Batista was in full control. He was, until he picked up HHH and got hit with a poke to the eye. He then ran off the ropes and kicked Batista in the back of his leg, sweeping him up. He dropped a knee onto Batista and did a lot of damage over the next few minutes. HHH hit a neck breaker, his trademark jumping knee and he even locked in the figure four, but Batista got to the ropes. A little later, HHH went for his spine buster, but Batista elbowed out of it and hit a spine buster of his own. He covered but the Game kicked out. Batista then went for a Spear, but Triple H moved out of the way and Batista crashed into the turnbuckle. HHH then hooked him for the Pedigree but Batista dropped down and pushed HHH, who ran into the referee. HHH would take full advantage of that as the moment that Batista walked towards him, he dropped down and nailed him with a low blow. He then followed that up with a Pedigree. He noticed that the referee was slowly stirring so he picked up Batista and hit a second Pedigree. That was all she wrote as The Game got the victory. Winner: Triple H (15:59) ***¼The crowd booed heavily as Triple H celebrated his tainted victory. As Triple H was celebrating up the aisle, Batista, who was halfway up, stared a hole right through him and Michael Cole mentioned that this is far from over.
As we cut to the back, we see the Intercontinental Champion Ted Dibiase Jr. standing by with the new World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Joe Henning. Dibiase tells them that now they hold the power on Raw because they are the Champions. He then announces that he has been given a chance tomorrow night on Raw to compete in a qualifying match for the Six Pack Challenge at Night of Champions. The other two congratulate him and say that after he wins the WWE Title, they really will hold all the power.
Next, we cut to a video package showing the red hot rivalry between Edge and Shane McMahon that has been going on for over two months. It all leads up to tonight’s I Quit Match.I Quit Match: Edge vs. Shane McMahonShane O’ Mac came out to a great pop from the crowd. Edge was next Vickie followed him to the ring which got him more boos than usual. This turned out to be very much like Shane’s Street Fight with Kurt Angle back at the 2001 KOTR. The match began with a straight up fist fight to remind everybody that this wasn’t going to be an ordinary wrestling match; this was going to be a fight. Shane got the better of the early brawl and then hit a running DDT. He went straight to the outside and grabbed a steel chain. He wrapped it around his fist and nailed Edge in the face twice. Just like that, mere minutes into the match, Edge was busted wide open. Shane asked him if he quit and Edge screamed “No!”Shane went under the ring and got a kendo stick but once he crawled back in, Edge stomped on him. Edge used the kendo stick on Shane once he got up. He followed that up by hitting him with lefts and rights continuously. Vickie tossed a trash can in the ring and Edge hit a half nelson face buster onto it. He asked Shane if he quit, but Shane said no. Edge tossed him to the outside and they brawled out there for a few. Edge then cleared off an announce table and turned around only to have Shane nail him with a steel chair. Shane placed Edge on the table and hit his Leap of Faith elbow through it. The crowd popped huge and both men were down. When Shane got to his feet he asked Edge if he quit, but Edge said no. Shane went and cleared off another table, leaving on the ECW announce table intact. Shane placed Edge on the ECW table and was looking to suplex him from that table onto the table he just cleared off. Edge got out of the suplex attempt though, and Speared Shane onto and through the other table. Another major spot that the crowd loved. Vickie forced the referee to ask Shane if he quit. Shane managed to say no to the crowd’s surprise. Edge was first up and dragged Shane back into the ring. Shane managed to get back in control and hit him with his signature punch combination. He then set Edge up in the corner for the Coast to Coast dropkick. Edge had a steel chair set in front of his face. Vickie got on the apron and tried to stop Shane. Shane and the referee tried to get her to move. Suddenly, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder came through the crowd and knocked Shane off the top rope. Ryder revived Edge and Hawkins slid a steel chair in the ring. Edge was up and Speared Shane as he got up. He then set up Shane for the one man con-chair-to. He nailed Shane with it and they asked him if he quit but Shane was knocked out. The referee signaled to end the match, but Edge hit him five more times with the con-chair-to in a sick display. Winner: Edge (20:26) ****Jim Ross, Tazz and the crowd were are stunned and disgusted by Edge’s display of violence tonight. Edge stood tall with the chair in hand as Vickie, Hawkins and Ryder flanked him.
The cameras cut to the back where CM Punk is being interviewed. He talked about making it to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament last year and that this is his year. He says he’ll win and go on to challenge either Randy Orton, The Undertaker or Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship. MVP and Eve come up to him. MVP wishes him good luck tonight, but he’s the MVP of the WWE and he will win and go on to face either Kane or John Cena for the WWE Title. They shake hands as we cut to the arena.King of the Ring Finals: CM Punk vs. Montel Vontavious Porter w/ EvePunk made his way to the ring first to another thunderous ovation. MVP followed to a major pop as well, just slightly less than Punk’s. The two men locked up to open the match and MVP shoved him down, being the stronger of the two. They locked up again and Punk got around him and locked in a hammerlock. MVP elbowed out of it and put on a wristlock. They traded moves like this until it led to a standoff. The two began to trade signature moves after that. MVP nailed a big boot in the corner and a dragon screw. Punk hit a double underhook back breaker and his springboard clothesline. MVP got up and dodged away from Punk’s flying cross body. Punk crashed to the ground and MVP attempted the Drive-By, but Punk moved and picked him up for the GTS. MVP blocked it by getting his forearms up to stop Punk’s knee. Punk ran at him only to have MVP snap off a belly to belly suplex. He only got a near fall though. MVP went for his “Ballin” elbow, but Punk slid out of the ring. He got right back in and worked on MVP’s elbow. Eventually, MVP broke free of Punk’s submissions but Punk sent him to the outside. He ran off the ropes and attempted a suicide dive, but MVP moved and Punk hit the guardrail hard. MVP slid in and the referee was up to an eight count on Punk. MVP went out and brought Punk back in. He didn’t want to win by countout. He covered Punk, but he kicked out. MVP hooked Punk and hit the Playmaker. He covered by Punk just barely got his foot on the bottom rope. MVP waited to deliver the Drive By, but Punk again dodged it and dropkicked him down. He locked the Anaconda Vise onto the elbow that he worked on all match. MVP was close to tapping out, but he managed to hang on and reach the ropes. Both men looked tired and Punk picked up MVP for the GTS. Again though, MVP blocked it as he had Punk scouted well. Punk attempted a superkick, but MVP ducked and hit a big boot. He followed up with the Drive By for the victory. Winner and 2009 King of the Ring: Montel Vontavious Porter (17:27) ****¼The crowd pops for the awesome display of wrestling that they just witnessed. MVP helps Punk up and the two shake hands one last time. The announcers put over both men and say that both are future World Champions.
We then cut to a video showing the history between Kane and John Cena. It shows their brawls and that both men have bloodied the other over the past few weeks.WWE Championship First Blood Match: Kane (c) w/ Paul Bearer vs. John Cena“My Time is Now” blasts in the arena and John Cena makes his way out to a roaring ovation from the crowd tonight. Kane follows to great heel heat. Cena ran at Kane once the match began but Kane nailed him with the WWE Title. Right off the bat, everybody was worried if Cena was busted open already. Kane continued to attack Cena’s head as he laid into him with big right hands. Cena started to fight him off, so Kane decided to attempt and wear down the challenger. He hit Cena with a sidewalk slam and then a running power slam. Kane then tossed Cena to the outside. He continued his assault out there. He cleared off the remaining announce table and was gearing up for a choke slam through it, but Cena kicked him in the gut. Cena hit a drop toe hold, sending Kane’s face into the table. With Kane bent over in pain, Cena ran at him and nailed a throwback. Cena then climbed to the top rope and jumped off and hit the fameasser. He then grabbed the WWE Title and waited for the Champion to get up and he leveled him with the belt. The referee checked around Kane’s mask but couldn’t find any trace of blood. Cena was like a shark though and continued to fire away. He grabbed a nearby steel chair and leveled Kane with it, but Kane wasn’t fazed at all. Cena looked shocked and hit him again, this time causing Kane to stagger. A final shot knocked Kane down, but again no sign of blood. Cena grabbed the steel chain left behind from the Edge/Shane match and he began to grind it on the small part of skin that sticks out of Kane’s mask. Paul Bearer then came from behind and hit Cena in the back with the urn. Cena was obviously, not fazed by it and he grabbed Bearer by the collar. Kane picked up the urn and hit Cena with it. He then nailed Cena in the head with it. Cena began to slowly bleed and the referee was forced to call for the bell. Winner and Still WWE Champion: Kane (15:29) ***¼Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole mention how Cena was in control throughout the match, but Paul Bearer really changed the course of the match. It was also rather obvious that this wasn’t the planned finish of the match as it seemed rather abrupt. They send it over to Jim Ross and Tazz for tonight’s main event.
We cut to a video package highlighting the recent rivalry between World Champion Randy Orton, The Undertaker and Chris Jericho. It starts with Jericho costing The Undertaker back to back World Title shots and it ends with their issues over the past two weeks.World Heavyweight Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. The Undertaker vs. Chris JerichoChris Jericho made his way to the ring first and he got major heat. Randy Orton followed to some more great heat, but he did get more cheers than Jericho. The Undertaker was next and took his usual long stroll to the ring, to the biggest pop of the night. Jericho and Orton were smart enough to attempt to double team the Undertaker at the start of the match. ‘Taker fought them off for a few, but the numbers eventually came into play and the heels got the better. They took turns doing moves on ‘Taker. Jericho hit a bulldog and Orton dropped a fist onto him. Jericho then hit the lionsault and attempted the pin, but Orton broke it up. That caused them to get into a shoving match. Jericho slapped him and Orton hit him with a European uppercut. They continued to battle for a few minutes until ‘Taker got back up. They went for a double clothesline on him, but he ducked and took both men out with one of his own. Orton got up first and was met by a running DDT from ‘Taker. He then hit Jericho with Old School but only got a two count. Orton attempted to get back into it but was met with a choke slam. Jericho broke up the count though. He hit ‘Taker with an enziguri and Orton knocked him to the outside. He set up ‘Taker for the rope hung DDT and he drilled it. He covered but was upset when ‘Taker kicked out. Orton began to stalk Undertaker for the RKO. Right before ‘Taker turned around; Jericho turned Orton around and hit him with the Codebreaker. Jericho and The Undertaker then began to fight, in a battle of two men who never faced off one on one. Jericho got the slight advantage, but ‘Taker’s soup bones got him the true upper hand. He knocked Jericho the outside. He then ran off the ropes and hit his insane suicide dive to the outside. He slowly got up and tossed Jericho back into the ring. Jericho hit him with a low blow though. He then went to lock in the Walls of Jericho but ‘Taker blocked it and went for Hell’s Gates but Jericho reached the ropes. Jericho walked right into ‘Taker but got caught with the Last Ride power bomb. He went for the cover but Orton ran in and punted him, much like he did back at WrestleMania XXIV. He then covered Jericho to get the win. Winner and Still World Heavyweight Champion: Randy Orton (19:25) ****Another great title defense for Orton as the Viper slithers his way to another victory and retains his Championship. He poses with the belt as the announce team puts over how awesome ‘Taker and Jericho going at it was and they ask the question of who can stop the Age of Orton?© WWE 2009

Punk/Shelton sounded like a great opener, the finishing stretch was well written out, I wish Shelton would've won but Punk's fine. MVP/Swagger was an interesting match up, the Gutwrench reversal into the Drive By sounded great, again I kinda wished the opposite man would've won as Shelton/Swagger would fit the king role more than MVP/Punk but oh well. Glad Legacy won as I don't really like Haas/Noble, hopefully they get a decent reign and use the freebird rule tbh. Elijah/Kennedy again sounded great, the stuff with Kennedy not being able to win the big one looks to be leading to an interesting storyline, so in that aspect glad Burke won even though I was hoping Kennedy would win beforehand. Glad Triple H picked up the victory and that you'll be continuing the Triple H/Batista feud. The Edge/Shane match sounded good, wish the Edgeheads didn't interfere as Edge should be able to beat Shane on his own, Edge going crazy at the end was great stuff. The MVP/Punk match sounded great, expecially the end of the match, glad MVP won out of the 2, hopefully you push him to the main event soon. Kane/Cena again sounded like a great match, nice touch with the chain left from Edge/Shane, wished Cena would've won but the end sounded good. Kinda wished Cena/Kane was main eventing over the Triple Threat. Didn't really like the finish as it had already been done with the same guy like you mentioned.
But overall great show, even though most of the people I wanted to win lost, I still enjoyed the show as all the matches were good and well written. Keep it up.

King of the Ring...Sunday 7th June 2009...Awesome opening contest, to kick off King of the Ring, CM Punk advancing into the finals of the tournament is good, Shelton Benjamin I hope remains in the upper-card parts of the SmackDown brand, too, however. Montel Vontavious Porter beating Jack Swagger is questionable in my eyes. Is MVP a heel? I'd of loved it more if Swagger advanced, a face-vs-face final in a tournament I dislike the idea of. The Legacy beating The Technicians is fine, just don't like that they're on the card, to be honest. It's an unneeded match. Solid ECW Championship defense by Elijah Burke against Mr Kennedy. Sweet match between Triple H and Batista. Edge beating Shane McMahon isn't exactly a shocking result to the I Quit match. Sweet finals to the tournament, Montel Vontavious Porter beating CM Punk is great and different. Kane retaining the WWE Championship against John Cena is fine. The main event lacked a graphic, hehe. Randy Orton beating Chris Jericho & The Undertaker is good, seemed like a solid main event. Good show, questionable booking though, on some matches.

Was Pulling for Shelton in the opener but either way is fine. And I was pulling for Swagger, but now I hope MVP wins it. Legacy winning is good, they are much more important in the long run than Haas/Noble. Wonder if you'll go anywhere with Kennedy not being able to win the big one; glad Burke retained. He has had a nice reign so far. Hope Batista/HHH continues, maybe even with a payoff match at Summerslam. Edge winning was obvious because Shane isn't even really a wrestler. Glad MVP won KOTR, great for an ego boost. Just realized the hstiory with Kane and first blood matches at KOTR. Glad he won anyway. Main event was nice, Orton winning makes him credible. Good PPV all around, just felt a little predictable.

I would have liked Shelton to advance, but I was expecting Punk to advance. Sucks that Swagger is out so soon, but MVP advancing is sweet. I'm glad that Legacy won the tag belts. Although I like Noble and Haas, I don't like them as a team. Although them teaming is original, I'm just not a fan of them holding the belts. Hennig and Rhodes is a good team. Elijah has had a good run with the ECW Title. I'd like to see him continue to hold the belt. I'm glad that Edge won, as Edge is one of your biggest stars. Would have been a bad move to put Shane over. Great to see MVP win the KOTR. I was actually expecting Punk to win it. I honestly didn't expect Orton to retain, however I am glad that he did.

- CM Punk vs Shelton to open up KOTR is nice, I like Punk winning and I'd love to see this match. Would be quality Wrestling. - I like MVP beating Swagger, Swagger has a title and doesn't need to win KOTR. MVP to win KOTR please - Noble and Haas losing the straps to Legacy is good in my opinion. Push Legacy all the way please? I also like Hennig in legacy - Burke retaining ECW Title against Mr Kennedy is fine, wouldn't have minded who won this one. - Triple H > Batista is alright, wonder were you'll go after this - Edge beating Shane in an I Quit Match is fine aswell... I wonder were you'll go hear too. - YES! MVP the King Of The Ring Rules! Im glad it got ****1/4 aswell! I hope MVP wins a big title soon - Kane vs Cena is good, I don't think that feuds happened in WWE yet? Kane winning I like too. I like Kane being back with his mask, as well. Orton winning the triple threat match is fine, really makes him look unbeatable
Overall great PPV, I really love your diary, style basicalyl everything

I am pleased to see Punk advance to the finals although Shelton winning would have been great too. I also am happy to see MVP advance to the finals, I am pulling for him to win. Very nice to see Legacy pick up the victory over some solid competition. I am happy to see Burke retain his title over Kennedy. Good call with HHH going over Batista. HHH jobbed to Batista like crazy back in the day so it is nice to see it equal out. I am so pleased to see Edge defeated Shane McMahon as Edge does not need the loss. I am very happy that MVP won the tournament as he needs something big to push him into the main event. I love that Kane won and the match itself was great. I like Orton retaining as the title doesn’t need to be tosses around every PPV. Overall, a solid show and I really enjoyed it.

Raw 6/8/09 Preview-Less than 24 hours ago, WWE Champion Kane retained his Title in a First Blood match against John Cena. Despite Cena being busted open, he will be in tonight's main event when he takes on Intercontinental Champion Ted Dibiase Jr. in a qualifying match for the Six Pack Challenge match at Night of Champions. Can Dibiase pull off the upset and keep Legacy on a roll? Or will Cena get one more crack at Kane? -Also last night, just one of the four superstars in the Semi-Finals of the King of the Ring tournament represented Raw. That man was MVP and he beat ECW's Jack Swagger and then Smackdown's CM Punk to come out on top and guarantee himself a WWE Title shot at SummerSlam. That's over two months away, but we will hear from MVP to open the show for his King of the Ring coronation ceremony. -Last night, Triple H finally got a victory over Batista although it was in controversial fashion. The Game had to use a low blow and some other shady tactics. Nonetheless, he picked up the win. He will be in attendance tonight, but will be next week and he will be involved in a qualifying match! -Also on tonight's agenda, John "Bradshaw" Layfield will take on R-Truth while Batista meets with ECW's Mark Henry in two more qualifying matches. Plus, we will hear from the new World Tag Team Champions, Cody Rhodes & Joe Henning! Tune into the USA Network at 9:00PM for all this and so much more!

June 8th, 2009 US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona Attendance: 17,261
This week’s Raw opens with a video package showing the events that occurred during last night’s WWE Championship match between Kane and John Cena. It then showed that Raw’s Montel Vontavious Porter won the King of the Ring, giving the brand the winner two years running.
Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler welcome us to Phoenix, Arizona for tonight’s major edition of Raw. Tonight will include three qualifying matches for the Six Pack Challenge match at Night of Champions. Those three matches will feature Batista taking on Mark Henry, John “Bradshaw” Layfield going one on one with R-Truth and John Cena going up against the Intercontinental Champion, Ted Dibiase Jr. Cole also mentions that neither Vince, nor Stephanie is in attendance tonight as they are in the hospital with Shane McMahon.
“I’m Coming!” MVP’s theme hits as he makes his way to the ring with Eve Torres for his King of the Ring coronation. He gets in the ring, where the big King chair is in the middle. He begins to talk about how he came ever so close to winning the Royal Rumble this year, but sadly fell short. Then he came within an inch of being Mr. Money in the Bank, but once again fell short. Finally, last night he walked out as the King of the Ring and is now on the right track. He looks at the chair and knocks it over. He says that he’s not going to do the whole crown & cape king thing, that’s not his style. He is cut off by the theme music of JBL, who comes down with the entire Cabinet. He gets in the ring and tells MVP that he’s wasting his time out here. Just because he’s King of the Ring, it doesn’t mean that he’s something special. All it guarantees is that he gets a one on one WWE Title match at SummerSlam. And he will lose that match because JBL guarantees to be the WWE Champion when that time comes as he will beat R-Truth tonight and win the WWE Title at Night of Champions. MVP informs JBL that he also has a qualifying match next week on Raw, so he may be WWE Champion sooner than he thinks. JBL then commands the Cabinet to attack MVP, which they do. Even Candice attacks Eve. This causes John Cena to run down with a steel chair and make the save, running the Cabinet out of the ring. Cena helps MVP up as we go to commercial.
Commercial Break.
Six Pack Challenge Qualifying Match Batista vs. Mark Henry w/ Tony Atlas
The wrestling portion of Raw opens very weak tonight as these two were very sluggish in there. Henry, despite being from ECW, was trying to get a WWE Title shot, but Batista was just too good for him here. The Animal put him away with a spine buster followed by an impressive Batista Bomb.
Winner: Batista (5:26) **
Batista grabbed a microphone after the match and acknowledged that despite Triple H not being here tonight, he knows that he has a qualifying match next week. But he can also look forward to a visit from The Animal next week.
In the back, Legacy is shown. The new World Tag Team Champions, Cody Rhodes and Joe Henning are pumping up Dibiase are his match tonight, saying that after he wins and goes on to the Six Pack Challenge at Night of Champions, Legacy will rule Raw.
Commercial Break.
Raw returns to see another ad hyping up the debut of “The Warrior” Kaval, which is in two weeks time.
Tag Team Match Jayson Paul & Shad Gaspard w/ Candice Michelle vs. The Technicians w/ Kelly Kelly
Despite just losing the Tag Titles, the Technicians still worked great as a team. Jayson and Shad really looked good as they seem to work better as heels. Either that or their new change of attitude has motivated them. Anyway, Noble got the hot tag after The Cabinet worked over Haas, and he came in firing. After hitting the Tiger Driver on Paul, Shad came in and broke it up. He then hit Noble with an STO and knocked Haas off the apron. Jayson Paul covered to get the win for his team.
Winners: Jayson Paul and Shad Gaspard (5:56) **¼
In the back, Josh Matthews is standing by with Evan Bourne. Bourne cuts a decent promo saying that he’s coming for the Intercontinental Championship and he says that if Dibiase Jr. doesn’t make it into the Six Pack Challenge, then he wants a crack at the IC Title at Night of Champions.
Commercial Break.
Backstage, we see William Regal, Paul Burchill, Katie Lea Burchill and Layla in the back. Regal says that you’re looking at the two toughest Englishmen in the WWE and they will take over WWE’s Tag Team Division.
Six Pack Challenge Qualifying Match John “Bradshaw” Layfield w/ Candice Michelle & Ryan Braddock vs. R-Truth
Truth was determined to get in the WWE Title picture and it showed here. Despite JBL hitting him with nearly everything he’s got, Truth kept coming back for more. JBL nailed his usual power moves, but R-Truth made a comeback. He hit his spinning forearm but when he went for the Scissors Kick, JBL moved out of the way and hit him with Clothesline from Hell to end it.
Winner: John “Bradshaw” Layfield (7:26) **½
After the match, Ryan Braddock waited for R-Truth to get up and nailed him with a lariat of his own. The three members of the Cabinet raised their arms in victory.
Commercial Break.
Non-Title Women’s Match Katie Lea Burchill w/ Layla London vs. Women’s Champion Victoria
Considering that these are two of the most talented women on the roster, this was very good as expected. Both women were at their best and Katie Lea actually hit some power moves on the Champion. She hit a big back breaker and a Samoan drop but Victoria kicked out after both moves. Eventually, Victoria got Katie Lea up for the Widow’s Peak, but out came Beth Phoenix to cause the disqualification.
Winner by DQ: Victoria (5:02) **¼
Beth and Katie Lea began to stomp on the Champion until Mickie James ran to the ring to even the odds. They all brawled until officials broke it up. In the midst of it all Katie Lea and Beth, and Victoria and Mickie hit each other despite being together at one point.
The cameras cut to the back where John Cena and Ted Dibiase Jr. are seen walking towards the ring on a split screen. Their main event battle is next!
Commercial Break.
Six Pack Challenge Qualifying Match John Cena vs. Intercontinental Champion Ted Dibiase Jr. w/ World Tag Team Champions Legacy
These two got a very good amount of time for this main event and Dibiase began to show that he can hang in the main event scene. He looked over matched at the start though as Cena nailed him with a belly to belly and fisherman suplex. Dibiase gained control though by using a double stomp and vertical suplex. He nailed his dad’s signature fist drop but only got a two count. Cena got back in control thereafter by hitting the throwback and a Lou Thez Press. He went for the FU, but Rhodes and Henning got on the apron. Out of nowhere, Haas and Noble run down and pull them off the apron and begin to brawl with them. They take them to the back and Cena finishes Dibiase off with the FU.
Winner: John Cena (12:35) ***¼
The crowd loves that Cena is getting at least one more shot at Kane’s WWE Championship. As he’s celebrating, fire erupts from the turnbuckle and Kane begins to walk to the ring. Cena is awaiting him, but is attacked from behind by JBL. Batista runs down and begins to brawl with Kane. The show ends with the four participants so far in the Six Pack Challenge, brawling.

Good opening segment, made sense for MVP to get it since he won KOTR. Batista/Henry is a solid opener although neither guy is great in the ring. Glad the heel team beat the Technicians. Like the Regal/Burchill/Katie/Layla pairing, nice there. JBL winning is cool, like his little group. Women's match was fine, hope Victoria drops the belt sooner than later. Cena winning was the right call. Solid show overall.
