Gamespot is reporting EA and Take-Two are adopting Nvidia's PhysX technology. The article states the rival companies have revealed plans to utilize the physics engine in PC titles. Now you may be asking yourself, well what's the big deal? You may not even play PC games. Well the article goes on to say: It's hard for me to believe these two publishers, especially EA, would not utilize this on titles released on the three consoles . I think it's safe to assume we could see this technology in their sports titles as well. One title coming out in the near future that will feature PhysX is Backbreaker. Of course at this point this is all speculation. We may never see this on console this generation and if we do it may not be used in sports games. It's hard to imagine we won't though when you consider both companies are going to have this physics engine in their gaming development. --------------- Wow this is ing sick. Just wait till the next EA SPorts games like madden and what they'll be able to do with it

The reason why Backbreaker is so impressive is not because of PhysX. It's because of euphoria.

The reason why Backbreaker is so impressive is not because of PhysX. It's because of euphoria. The big thing about this game is the physics involved. "The game Backbreaker uses PhysX. "They're calculating those tackles in real time, based on how the body interacts and the body mechanics interact. So no two tackles are the same,"

PhysX is what allows euphoria to make the no two tackles look the same. PhysX does all the calculations, while euphoria does all of the pretty stuff. Just having PhysX does not mean Madden will be Backbreaker. In the same way that PhysX has the physics libraries, so does euphoria with animation.

Then the later Press Release announcing PhysX.
It's not because of the PhysX engine, it's the combination of the two.

I'm not totally familar with Euphoria and what it's all about.

Euphoria is NaturalMotion's animation solution. Using a physics engine (like PhysX), it makes unscripted animations. If you played Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (the PS3 or 360 version) or Grand Theft Auto IV, you've seen it. In the backbreaker trailers, all of the animations are done through Euphoria, though all of the information Euphoria needs to create the animations is provided by the physics engine.

So wouldn't that mean Physx is more important? Because it gathers and does ALL of the information needed to even make these physics possible?

Not necessarily, because without Euphoria or something that does procedural animations like Euphoria, you won't see any advantages from having PhysX other than the knowledge that the physics calculations are being done. Madden 2010 having PhysX doesn't mean anything if they don't take advantage of it by having physics based animations.
However, another advantage to Euphoria, is that the characters in a Euphoria game will try to protect themselves. For instance, in Backbreaker, the players will try and land in such a way that they won't get hurt. That's why the stormtroopers in Force Unleashed would grab on to boxes or anything they could when being force pushed.

And without this Physx you wouldn't have? And without Euphoria Physx would be useless Isn't there others like Euphoria. So it would still work.

The company would have to make it from scratch unless they wanted to license Euphoria. And also, PhysX is not necessary for Euphoria. Force Unleashed and GTAIV didn't use PhysX and they had Euphoria. PhysX just makes it simpler for the developers to do physics processing.

Ah ok, Thanks for clearing all this up.
