Did you retire the guy? I'm pretty sure you need the HOF trophy, and I can't remember whether or not you get that upon retiring. You might also need to actually be the champion when you retire, because the title might count as a trophy.

You certainly need the HOF trophy & you only get that when Dana retires you, you get emails from Dana saying this is your last year, then your last fight & then one that says you'll be inducted into the HOF just before your last fight. Getting the HOF is a bit tempremental but if you are undefeated & get all the other trophies you will certainly get it. If you drop toio many matches then odds are good you won't be inducted

To everyone who has trouble winning without strikes:
Just worked out a great way to get the World Class Grappler trophy. I and many of my friends have been having difficulty with it, so this is a relief to me. I did it twice in exactly the same way, and it was really easy.
1. Go to Welterweight, and pick GSP, and face Josh Burkman (He has the lowest sub stats I think).
2. Immediately take Burkman down.
3. Hold L1 and rotate the right stick from 12 to 3, performing a slam. You should end standing up.
4. Click the left stick to get away from him.
5. Immediately go for a takedown on him before he can stand up.
6. Repeat stages 3 - 5 until the slams no longer reduce Burkman's stamina bar.
7. Continue repeating stages 3 - 5 until he gets rocked from the slam, and then instead of clicking the left stick to move away, click the right stick to initiate a submission.
8. Rotate the right stick and it should work, as his low stamina combines with your untouched stamina and his being rocked to make it easy to make him tap.
The slams don't count as strikes, and its really easy and simple, I just broke it down there. You should have no trouble with it.

A couple of people (including me) went over that a few pages ago... The best thing to do in that situation is to wait for a "rocked" opponent to get back up, then try to finish him with a big punch or kick. Eventually, you'll score the KO. For those having trouble with the flip of this achievement, which is a submission with no striking, I can vouch that big slams from wrestlers don't count as striking. The best thing to do is to pick a solid wrestler and slam slam slam, then eventually lock on a submission to get the win and the achievement. ...But it's good to get a refresher since that's one of the most difficult achievements to get if you don't know that slams don't count as strikes.

You opponent will tire himself out trying to escape. Slap on an armbar. Done.

How d'you do Rubber Guard? I can't find it in the tutorials.
Also, once you retire a career fighter, can you still use him online?

I think you hold LB and do a major transition.

I think you hold LB and do a major transition. Correct. But only BJJ guys can do it. Get in Full Guard Down from the bottom, hold LB and do a major transition. You can then minor transition or major transition.

Balls, was hoping to do it with Cheick Kongo.
Oh well, thanks guys. One more question, whats the best defence against it? I find myself just flailing the right stick wildly.
Oh, and anyone know the answer to my career fighter question?

You can still use retired fighters online. I even waited until my fighter was specifically retired to take him online, in order to fight as him when his stats were highest.
The best bet against Rubber Guard is two things: standard blocking/reversals and not going to the ground.
You can hold the right analog stick left or right and keep holding it in order to block Rubber Guard, which is essentially just another transition. If you've got good timing, you can flick the stick at the right moment to reverse either the pull into Rubber Guard or the next transition from Rubber Guard.
Also, try to remember when you're fighting a guy that has BJJ. More often than not they'll try to pull guard on you, which is getting you in the clinch and then dragging you down into Open Guard Down, where they can then initiate Rubber Guard. You can block that by also holding the right analog stick to the left or right.

I can't see why it wouldn't be. That would make it much harder to get in the HOF if you were a wrestler, which would be unfair. You should be able to get it, maybe all your submissions have been first round?

IMO, Submitting the AI in Career is unfairly hard. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this, since that's one of the things the patch will address (whenever the er actually makes its way down the pipe). I always choose BJJ guys since I'm so comfortable with them, and I try to keep all my stats balance. I've had one Submission in career mode. I dunno, maybe I'm doing it wrong, or maybe it's because I only try it against the high-level guys. As funny as it sounds, my first and only submission win in career was against Big Nog. I'm probably going to go back to career mode...ranked online has really been pissing me off lately. Too many "hardcore" players that fight like douches, too many low-leveled players that think their crapdoesn't smell and then can't believe how evil I am for taking them to the ground and pounding them out. It'll be back to career mode for me, definitely. I want to get the "Pound for Pound" Achievement, plus I want to see if I can finally unlock Mask. We'll see.

The only way that I could ever get a submission in Career was to have my opponent's stamina almost completely yellow and a high Submission Offense.

Cheick Kongo, Michael Bisping and GSP, but I only go online with Kongo and maybe Bisping, mainly because the Welterweight division is 95% a race to see who can get GSP first.

I mostly use my CAF defending the Welterweight belt in exibition mode against random challengers. If I lose the title fight I usually do a few regular non-title fights to "work my way back" to another title shot.
I don't bother with online. Don't feel like paying for it.
