pre planning is put into the royal rumble match.
Obviously the numbers, winner, final 4 etc are pre planned
I was thinking can the superstars do whatever moves they want in the match, cos i wouldnt think theyd rehearse the whole match, just the 25-finish
so basically can they do want they want in the match

It's all on the fly I assume until the last 4. Certain parts also have to be planned too if needed.

Yeah I would think the moves are called on the fly. But obviously, the winner, eliminations, entry order and other things are planned.

Just like in any match there is going to be some stuff that is planned and some stuff that just happens out there. If you think about it, though, it would not be all that difficult to plan a lot of the match, because it is really a series of a lot of different matches, because normally, you are not out there wrestling all 29 other superstars (with the exception of 4-6 people who have actually made it through the Rumble having been in the ring with all other 29 wrestlers). For example...I am sure if there was a little angle they were going to run with The Legacy where Ted Dibiase returns and eliminates Orton or something to that extent, I am sure they would plan it. If they were going to do something involving involving another feud/storyline, I would imagine they would rehearse it. Not everyone involved in the match has to be there when they rehearse it. I am sure everyone has a meeting all together at some point so it is clear who they can eliminate and stuff, because if for whatever reason, CM Punk accidentally eliminates Orton befor Dibiase can return and do it, the storyline they were building for is shot. I am sure each superstar has a handful of spots they have to remember and everyone is in the loop as to who they can eliminate. After that, I think it is pretty much on the fly as far as specific moves, etc.

I always had the theory that they probably watch the match closely from the back and give guys orders as they head out to the ring. Like say CM Punk is in at number 6, and has performed well for an extended period of time. Perhaps as Morrison enters at number 21, they'll tell him to get to Punk and eliminate him. Minor things like that.
Also if the crowd is getting quiet, they probably tell a popular guy to come out as the next entrant, and/or tell them to do big moves upon getting in the ring.

so theyve got a back up winner e.g. if christian was gonna win and he gets cut, deep and bleeding bad (like joey mercury at armageddon) theyd have him thrown at quickly then have someone like Orton win

It's all on the fly I assume until the last 4. Certain parts also have to be planned too if needed. Well you'd be wrong. Several interviews with post fed talent including Jericho have stated that most of the Rumble is planned and that most spots are specifically written in.

Would be great if there wasn't a plan and everyone just called it on the fly in the ring.

I would imagine that a said wrestler knows what number he is entering. Who he is eliminating. What order to eliminate the people. Who is eliminating him. Etc.

I agree with most people. That all the eliminations are predetermined. If you pay close attention when some wrestlers come out it signals that others are supposed to be eliminated. If you look closely those that are supposed to be eliminated are looking for the person that's going to eliminate them (or vice versa) and they set up the spot.
Like last years Rumble for example. When Benjamin came in Miz & Morrison were setting themselves up for the big Benjamin spot. Once that hit Benjamin cockily walked back , because HBK was gonna kick him out.
Later, I forgot what entrant entered but it was late (near the end) and Mick Foley was in the corner battling it out with Triple H and Burke was around them. Burke walked to other side of the ring and Mick and HHH were still wrestling. Burke was acting like he was all dazed and confused. Then after a bit of preparing Mick had Triple H whip him into Burke, thus eliminating both.
It's been like that since the first rumble. I'm a huge fan and watch each rumble like every chance I get (thanks to Daily Motion for '88-'96 & The Anthologies III & IV for the rest). You can see when someone is supposed to go they set it up. Jake Roberts is horrible at setting up the spot and pretending... in '90 Savage and Dibiase were supposed to double clothesline him and he barely got touched and he "stumbled back" and went over the top. Later, in '96 he had the DDT set up and kept telling Vader to clothesline him. After the like second time Vader finally did it with little impact and Roberts again stumbled back and eliminated himself.
