I always wondered why this documentary was made so conveniently at the same time of the screw job... The documentary crew had been following Bret around months in advance of the Montreal Screwjob, and they were filming for Survivor Series because it was believed to be Bret's final night with the company and his final match so it's obviously worth capturing on film. |

Oddly enough, no. At the time they started making it Bret had already signed his huge contract with WWF. Then during filming Vince said for Bret to go to wCw. It is really weird for sure. Because if all this stuff didn't happen (Vince telling Bret to go to wCw, Screwjob) it would of been a pretty boring movie. |

What I meant was that they were filming at the event because, at the time, it was then known that it would be Hart's last major ppv with the company since Hart believed he would be able to forfeit the title the next night on Raw to Vince McMahon himself. It is strange the way things turned out, but I don't think it was a work or planned in advance for this crew to have behind the scenes access to the Montreal Screwjob; it just...happened, and the crew was very fortunate to have been there at the time. Sure, it would have been boring, but it was a documentary about Hart's career and it already had plenty of good footage leading up to when things took a turn for the worse (regarding Hart's 20-year contract with the WWF). He was taking offers from WCW during his off time in 1996, so they still had some interesting moments to include in the documentary had the Montreal Screwjob not occured. |

They were filming for a good 3 months before the Screwjob though. And at that time he was not taking offers from wCw. He had already signed a 10 year deal with WWF. So when they started filming the movie it was just a story about Bret Hart. There was no contract stuff they new about (it ended up that way) and their was no screw job there was no controversy. So it would have been a biography of Bret hanging out at home and talking to his dad. And at the time their were alot of wrestlers that would have givin you better footage. Because they lived more colorful lives. |

I thought it was pretty good, very sympathetic to Bret's side of the situation, but still good

it's  ing awesome. i saw it years ago and still remember bret's wife bitching out triple h. Mrs. Hart - BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH PMS CYCLE BLAH BLAH!!! HHH - .....*If you only knew this was a work...* |

As said before it is very geared towards Bret's side.
However it is a unique DVD, with great footage of wrestlers backstage, plus Bret's mindset over the heel turn & signing with WWE then being talked into switching to WCW. Plus the backstage buildup of the Montreal match.
Fascinating view for all wrestling fans

It's definitely worth a watch for a wrestling fan, but remember you're seeing a film very much slanted towards Bret's side of the story.
I'm laughing at all the "it was a work!" people. Like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon all sat down and decided to pull off a story that was fake and then still pretend it was real over ten years later. You people really think Bret Hart has been pretending to be bitter for the last decade just so that fans would chant "you screwed Bret" at Earl Hebner? Or do you think that there's a secret trust fund that makes WWE, HBK and Bret money from the mafia so long as they keep pretending?
