I loved the storyline simply because Angle/Austin was one of the best things to happen in wrestling. People bitch because it made WCW look bad and didnt include most of the biggest WCW stars (Goldberg and Sting for instance). Well I for one was never a WCW fan outside Hollywood Hogan so I didnt give a ****. I liked how it played out and 2001 heel Austin was at the top of his game. Absolutely this. Been converting all my old 2001 RAW's and SmackDown! VHS' to DVD for the past few weeks, and it's still very much enjoyable to me watching it back in 2009. Added to the fact that I was 11 at the time of the Invasion, it was a really exciting time for me in my years as a wrestling fan.

Would have been much better with Goldberg and Sting, they ruined it by having Stone Cold turn on WWF, he should have been WWF's main man. Here's my take on it. Stone Cold turning heel was actually a mark out moment for me. I legitimately felt Austin as a heel for all of 2001 was a good thing. I didn't mind his heel run. It was something new and his best title reign is during this time period. he was in his prime condition. He was fresh off his surgery and was reinvigorated and then Vengeance 01 onward hit and he wasn't as motivated. Him turning on the WWF wasn't a horrible idea, BUT I agree that Goldberg or Sting would have been even more of a mark out moment for me. Now, two options could have been put in here as to why they weren't, I think 1. the Time Warner contracts couldn't be brought out or something along those lines or 2. If you brought them in as heels, it may backfire cause fans may cheer them regardless.

The storyline was very entertaining at first but then became VERY chaotic when Austin turned. The battle should of just revolved around WWF vs WCW. ECW was brought in too quick IMO.

RVD, SABU, GOLDBERG, STING, FLAIR vs THE ROCK, Stone Cold, Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Jericho
Vince didn't bring in Goldberg Sting or Flair because he claimed he couldn't afford the pay out for their contracts which was absolute rubbish considering on the ppv of the invasion angle the revenue was over $10m i believe, which would of payed off the 3 big names straight off.

For me, two things made the invasion less significant.
1) The whole thing was rushed. It started in June and ended in November, when really they could have gone a year (possibly even longer). Had it gone longer, I feel bigger names could have become a part of it (Flair, HHH, Hogan, Hall, Nash, etc.) and made it even more exciting!
2) WWF placed a lot of WWF guys in the Alliance which degraded a lot of the WCW workers to mid-card or curtain-puller level. RVD & Booker T maybe the exceptions.

I don't care what anyone says, it was one of the most exciting times to watch wrestling for me. I did not care to see Bill Goldberg, Sting or Hulk Hogan stink up the place. Was it WWF vs WCW and did it make the money it could of made? Obviously not but I enjoyed the hell out of it. So many good matches and segments came out of it. 2001 will always be my favorite year in wrestling.

in a perfect world it would have been a 5 vs 5 vs 5 Elimination tag match with these men...
WWF Steve Austin The Rock The Undertaker Triple H (I believe he was injured at this time) Kurt Angle
vs
WCW Hollywood Hogan Ric Flair Sting Lex Luger Kevin Nash
vs
ECW Shane Douglas Tommy Dreamer Sandman Taz Rob Van Dam

2001 was the best year ever in wrestling tbh. People say 1998, but the PPV's were nothing great, and all the arenas were dark and taccy.
The Invasion Angle was absolutely amazing tbh, simply because of the little things involved in it, like Austin suddenly comming back as the old Rattlesnake after he had that hilarious character change, only to defect and turn to the Alliance. The Return of the Rock after half a year out, the fact all three McMahons were heavily involved in the angle. All the Raw's week in and week out throughout the period were great, you learnt something new every week.
Plus, the Austin V Angle Fued was one of the best ever without a doubt. Every PPV that year was amazing.
