This topic is to simply discuss your boss(es). Have you ever had a bad one? Any intersting stories involving you and one of them? Or if you just think yours is a jerk.
Just had a little spat with my store manager and she yelled at me and told my friend (co- worker) to "shut up and ring up some customers). She's absolutely no good under pressure and chaotic situations, which is something EVERY managers should be to some extent. She spent all morning in the office and when lunch time came ( I work in a market/gas station) she tried to come out and got all pissy with everyone because she was overwelmed (SP).
I know you guys have had way worse than so let's hear about it.

Being an asst. regional manager, I will say that anyone who has problems with their supervise there is always the human resources 800 number to call if you want to make an anonymous complaint.
I have never had a problem with my boss that couldn't be dealt with.

I have never had a problem with my boss that couldn't be dealt with. Oh, dude, I think you've got the wrong impression. I'm not complaining. I'm just trying to havea discussion about it. Thought it'd be cool to talk about how much of an a** your old boss might have been.

I had a couple bosses when I worked at Best Buy who were complete a-holes. For example, I was working with a high-profile customer (DJ Kid Capri) and selling him some computer stuff for 'the road'. Well, I'm in the middle of selling and one of the managers, who is a fan of Kid Capri's comes over and says, "Nick, why don't you go help other customers, and I'll help him?" I felt kind of offended because, quite frankly, I was the best sales person in the store (including him). But I let him take over, because I knew he was a fan, and I figured that maybe he wanted to try to get an autograph or something.... So the next day, I get called into an office by the store's general manager and he sits me down and asks, "Why did you give a customer $600 off on their laptop? We lost money on that product." I didn't. Turns out, the manager who took over for me decided to give Kid Capri a $600 discount on his laptop in exchange for an autographed CD and a photograph with him... He then rung out the sale and used my name as the salesperson. I tried to explain the situation, but of course, the general manager didn't believe me and thought that I was trying to 'steal from the store' by giving a customer such a huge discount. Eventually that other manager admitted to giving the guy a discount, but he said that I was the one who offered the customer the discount in the first place. I was quite furious, and told the guy to go himself.

The third one is the general manager who works in the morning so I never work with him, and i'm lucky because he's a prick.

Last place I worked I had a boss who was the worst. She once stood me up in front of the other employees and yelled at me about something. When I complained to her supervisor she flat out lied, said it never happened and told them I was a liar. The other employees told me I needed to take it to the next level of management, but the way that place was run, everyone who does that ends up on the department craplist and is nitpicked until they either quit or they caved under the pressure, ed something up and got fired. She also played the "I'm a minority and if you fire me I'll sue" card every time the complaints about her piled up. She'd show up late, leave early and screw things up in the meantime.

I work in a Supermarket, my Boss always expects the best and sometimes, the best isn't good enough. It annoys me because you try your hardest and work like hell, and there's still faults and problems.
I'm a Team Leader, so I have to look after 30+ members of staff and feel alot of pressure and don't always get the right support. However, I have one hell of a firey attitude and will fire straight back at my manager/trading manager without thinking, sometimes.

I've had nothing but amazing store managers, dms, and rms throughout my life except one store manager that hated me because I was white, a male, and not religious. She used to make sexist remarks at me, make me turn off any hip hop I had on my little radio because "I don't know what they're talking about", and would put church pamphlets in my office. Needless to say I left that job, 110% because of her. She still has that job too, because she flat out told the district manager, "If you ever try to fire me, I'll play the race card and sue this company."

I work at kohls. Im a supervisor, get along great with all the managers and districts. Did have one manager when i first started there a year ago who would bitch just to bitch, she was fired, and another supervisor that was fired just last week was the same.

Once my Supervisor had a go at me, even though it was not my fault. Once, my collegue (sp?), left a puddle on the floor and it wasn't mopped up, so becuase I was near it, she had a go at me.

TBH, my mom's current boss givers her a bunch of free stuff. just this past week she got a free $150 save mart giftcard. Also got Giants Tickets free beer (Since she works at a distriubting company) clothes ETC

The other employees told me I needed to take it to the next level of management, but the way that place was run, everyone who does that ends up on the department **** list and is nitpicked until they either quit or they caved under the pressure, ed something up and got fired. The only job I ever had where I hated my boss (a Circuit City location in 2002), it was the exact same way. Our store manager, over the course of the six months I worked there in sales, did all of the following, plus more: -- Had an affair with an 18-year-old female employee who then told his wife on him (the guy also had two young daughters with his wife)... the day the girl quit, his wife came to the store and slapped the s*** out of him in the parking lot. -- Held morning meetings to go over the prior day's sales figures and publicly mock and humiliate the salespeople who had poor showings, as a way to "motivate" them to get better. -- *Required* us to use part of our lunch break to visit a competing local entertainment store in plain clothes, once per week, and file a report to the rest of the department on their prices, procedures, etc. (I actually didn't have a problem with the scouting, but requiring us to do it during our lunch break was douchebaggery at its finest.) -- Reduced an older (pushing 60) female saleswoman to tears by confronting her about going to corporate about his threats and degrading comments toward her, and told her he'd "make her life miserable" from that point on. She had her hours cut and was reassigned to selling audio equipment, which she knew nothing about, despite having over a decade of experience selling TVs. -- Regularly chewed out salespeople in front of customers for -- get this -- not approaching customers often enough. (So on top of trying to shop in peace, and trying to avoid pushy salesmen, the customers are made to feel guilty about shunning the salesmen when they approach.) -- Shouted at a very experienced TV salesman after he managed to sell 8 rear projection HDTVs to a local business (whose owner was at one point ready to leave to see what other stores had for sale), because they only bought the extra insurance protection plan on 4 of the TVs. (Exact quote: "I thought you were supposed to be a GOOD salesman?") -- Would issue written, formal "disciplinary warnings" for low sales numbers. As if not selling enough was a disciplinary problem. -- Would regularly try to force salespeople to resign if they had sub par numbers, because he didn't have enough proper cause to fire them. His trick was to call people into his office and tell them "Corporate has recommended that I fire you," as a way of convincing the employee that it was hopeless to put up a fight. He would then play "good cop" and suggest resigning immediately to "save" that person from having to say they were fired. Most people fell for it. The one kid that opted not to resign was reduced to four hours per week and held to the same sales quota as those of us who worked almost 40 hours a week. The kid eventually quit because he wasn't making enough money to live on. In a bit of good news, I heard from friends that about a year after I escaped that place, the manager was fired because corporate caught him taking money from the car audio installation registers and then trying to blame the shortages on that department's manager. He was taken out of the store in cuffs by the police, and last I heard, was working at a sewage treatment plan.

I can't think of a more fitting job for that douche than to sift through crapall day. The company I previously worked for had mostly good higher-ups, although there was a few guys that always rubbed me the wrong way. Real power-junkies, loved to flex their corporate muscle, etc. The thing is, there was so many of us per event (event staff at concerts, ball games, etc.) that I rarely ran into them. Same goes for the job I currently work at: everyone there is cool and I barely run into them either way since I work graveyard. I actually became a pretty good friend with one of the guys I swore I'd never get along with.

She ripped me a new one publicly for narrowly missing a stat when another employee was greatly over that stat and did not say a word to her about it. So I tried to go to HR, and I could not find them on my breaks or lunch. So I see an HR person walk by, put my phone in after-call, flag her down and say I need to talk to her when she has a minute. My manager came over, and got on my case about phone codes. She said she would get me time with HR. Later, she told me to put my phone in personal time, and go talk to HR, which I did. The next day, she pulled me off the phone and wrote me up fo being in personal time for fourty five minutes. I kept on saying "You are writing me up for something you told me to do." But she wouldn't listen.

There was a chain of command thing where I worked and you were required to go through the chain of command (including our immediate supervisor). By the rules, we only had to notify her that we wished to talk to her supervisors. We weren't required to tell her what the issue was. She would always ask and say that she could resolve it if we talked to her. Why would we not talk to her? What was our problem? Why were we being uncooperative? If you did push it she would later write you up for being "uncooperative with supervision" and you wouldn't get a raise.

I've had some bad bosses over the years. I was actually promoted to the store manager position where I work this past week, so I'm hoping to learn from their mistakes.

I techincally have three supervisors that I work with. One of them constantly blames everything on me. If somethings wrong its automatically my fault and I have to fix it. I could come back from break and then somethings my fault. The other day I walked into work one day I wasn't working, and she blamed something on me. -abcs
