OK guys, since Ricky Steamboat was my favorite as a kid and he just cut a great promo on Raw last night, I'm going to allow myself to mark out a bit here... and start a Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat appreciation thread.
As a little kid that hadn't yet grown into my "cheer for the bad guys" phase, I was such a huge Steamboat fan in the 1980s. I remember going to a house show in 1986, headlined by Ricky Steamboat vs. Jake "The Snake" Roberts in a steel cage. They took an intermission to set up the cage, and as my dad & I walked toward the corridor to get to the arena concourse, we were approached by a blonde woman.
"Excuse me, are you a Ricky Steamboat fan?" she asked me (apparently tipped off by the fact that I was wearing an official WWF Ricky Steamboat souvenir headband). I said yes, and she introduced herself as his wife Bonnie. She thanked me for cheering for the Dragon, took a photo of her & Ricky from her purse and autographed it for me.
Now I know Bonnie isn't a popular person in wrestling circles these days due to the divorce, but to a kid my age, that was the biggest thrill ever. I could barely speak to say "thank you." And you better believe I cheered myself hoarse during the main event that night.

I too will cop to being a huge Steamboat fan. his matches against Muraco, Savage, Flair, etc. were some of the all time greats. From bell to bell, few could touch the Dragon, IMO.

Steamboat even got a respectable match out of a green Hercules Hernandez at WrestleMania II. Wasn't a five star match or anything, but give a brother credit... he was working with Hercules!

I agree with you all. His promo was great. I mostly enjoyed watching him wrestle against Flair and Savage. I'm glad he's going into the Hall this year.

The man never had a bad match, that i saw...
as a kid, he was one of my favorites, if not my very favorite. Heck, he still is to this day.
I wish WWE would finally put out the dragon dvd. Man, that will be classic.

Steamboat was one of my favorite wrestlers growing up and during his time in the WWF. He and guys like Savage were the reason why I liked the IC title more then the WWF title growing up as the people fighting over the IC title seemed to have the best matches.

JCW ran a clinic with Ricky Steamboat back in Nov. of 2001. Before the show I was talking to him and he was telling me about his son being involved in racing. Later in the show I asked him to sign a poster and went to tell him my name but he actually remembered it, which I thought was really nice. I know he deals with so many different promoters and for him to remember my name showed a lot of class. We all got a picture with him at the end of the show but I never got a copy. I did get my Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Coliseum Video signed but ended up selling it when money got too tight.
We also shot a mini shoot interview with him where he told a story about how his son beat Ric Flair's son twice at a wrestling tournament.

I'm a fan of Ricky Steamboat, but not when he had the "Dragon" gimmick. His 70s & 80s matches against Flair are incredible.

CSDA dont sell as well nor are they as popular as regular CS figures...but thats neither here nor there....
The ideal steamboat figure would be from WM3. His attires in '94 WCW run were by far his most flashy but lets be honest, Jakks would screw it up so lets keep it simple. I like him from his IC run in WWF and his NWA world run in NWA/WCW anything else I wouldnt be big on
