Word Wrestling Federation Presents...
WWF Vengeance
Sunday 9th December 2001
San Diego, California
Live on Pay-Per-View- A disclaimer came on the screen as it hyped up the upcoming pay-per-view event. It remained for moments before dissapearing. The opening signature appeared as the beginning video package began to play, showing Freddie Blassie sitting in an empty arena watching old-fashioned wrestling as it showed evolution of time, leading to current day, climaxing with Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock's epic staredown at the RAW before WrestleMania this year. "Sinner" by Drowning Pool is the official theme song for Vengeance as it played, going to the entrance stage [two titantrons with one on top] as pyrotechnics went off, the audience going nuts as Jim Ross and Jerry "King" Lawler ran down the card, hyping up Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock for the WCW and WWF Championships in the main event.
-
Match #1: Jeff Hardy defeated Matt Hardy to win the WWF Hardcore Championship in 14:04. This has to be one of the greatest matches for the Hardcore Championship I have ever seen, which is saying something after the reign of Rob Van Dam. Speaking of Rob Van Dam, him and Shane Helms also got involved. Matt and Jeff had some harsh weapon shots as they brawled around the ring. Around the ten-minute mark, Shane Helms ran in as Jeff was going to hit Wisper in the Wind off of the stage down onto a laid out Matt, Helms throwing Jeff down to the floor! Shane and Matt began to double-team Jeff until RVD came in, hitting the Van-Daminator, sending Shane down to the floor, RVD then helping Jeff up. RVD positioned Matt over three tables as Jeff went up on top of the right-sided titantron, as he came off with a huge Swanton Bomb! Jeff covered and that was all!

- Jeff Hardy celebrated with the WWF Hardcore Championship as Rob Van Dam seemed pretty busy, wasting no time in walking to the backstage area. Jeff went to leave, holding his ribs and all as Lita appeared in front of him, the two friends staring each other out, Lita not even cracking a smile. Jeff headed to the backstage area as she picked up a steel-chair from the floor of the stage, tossing it down onto a dazed Matt! Lita still showed no emotion.
- We go to an outdoor shot of the San Diego Sports Arena, being fairly dark outside, obviously due to it being winter-time. We go to Times Square in New York as Rikishi was at WWF New York, signing autographs, he looked like he had recovered from his past shoulder injury.
-
Match #2: Trish Stratus defeated Ivory to retain the WWF Womens Championship in 6:03. This was fairly good for a match between two women. Trish certainly is improving in the ring here, but Ivory pretty much carried the match, at least Trish is more than a pretty face, unlike a certain Stacy Keibler. Ivory was pretty rough with Trish out here, as she did a stiff kick at one point. Ivory hit a nice superplex, it looked like she was going to end up winning, but it was not to be as Trish repeatedly kicked out of whatever Ivory threw at her. Stratus hit this nice handstand as Ivory was on the top rope, and brought her down with a hurricanrana-style move. Ivory hit the Poison Ivory but Trish got a foot on the ropes fortunately. Could of been it, however. Stacy Keibler came wandering out, but Trish gave her a kick to the jaw that she calls the 'Chick Kick' before hitting the Stratusfaction on Ivory for the win!
**- Trish Stratus began to celebrate as the audience cheered her on, Stratus climbing out of the ring and avoiding a laid out Stacy Keibler, as she backed up the rampway in celebration, here at WWF Vengeance!
- We go to the backstage corridor, near the parking lot as The Rock was seen walking into the arena, cockily on his cell phone saying that he'd go see 'her' tomorrow when he's finished kicking Stone Cold Steve Austin's ass tonight for the WWF and WCW Championship. Rock got off the phone as he grinned, seeing Vince McMahon at the end of the corridor, greeting him happily, Vince asking Rock if he was ready for his match tonight.
- From here, we go to the Vengeance interview area as we see numerous replays of what happened last Monday on RAW, Tazz attacking his former broadcast partner, Michael Cole. Tazz is then seen as a security guard is seen standing in front of Cole, Michael saying he's brought 'Brock' here to avoid getting attacked by him again. Tazz begins to rant about how he'd easily beat this security guard with a Tazzmission, and that this 'Brock' is even a pretty boy himself, with his blonde hair, Tazz compares himself to Edge as Tazz says he's been overlooked, but tonight, the World Wrestling Federation will be sorry for doing that.
-
Match #3: Edge defeated Tazz to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship in 13:35. This was quite the match, there was quite alot of in-ring ability used, psychology was at a maximum as Tazz started off with many headlocks and mat-wrestling, just fighting Edge to the floor with some spears, maybe a german suplex at one point or another. Edge began to fight back however, and gave Tazz some of his own medicine, even hitting Tazz with a Tazzplex, stealing his move! Edge continued fighting, hitting a nice spinning wheel kick as well as hitting his former finisher, the Downward Spiral. Tazz eventually regained momentum with the Tazzplex out of nowhere, however as he began to work away at Edge's neck. Tazz eventually applied the Tazzmission as Edge refused to fall down, trying to fight Tazz off before running into a corner, jumping on the middle turnbuckle and covering Tazz for a suprising sneaky victory!
***
- Edge began to celebrate with the WWF Intercontinental Championship as the fans cheered, Tazz however not being too pleased, hitting the official with a Tazzplex! Tazz applied the Tazzmission on Edge from behind. fighting Edge down until he began coughing up blood! The audience booed as numerous officials evnetually had to come down and break it.
- We head to the backstage area again as Kurt Angle and Vince McMahon were seen discussing Angle's match, Kurt trying to get Vince to come down and watch Angle beat down Steven Regal to a bloody pulp. Vince agrees as Angle whispers to Vince how he worked a deal with Triple H. Vince says that Triple H is supposed to be here tonight, so he will find out in time. Vince also mentions Goldberg, saying that Goldberg has been too busy as of late to attend WWF RAW or SmackDown. Angle jokes about not needing him anyways, Vince reacting to that in concern.
- A video package plays, hyping up the upcoming WWF Tag Team Championship match between the Dudley Boyz and the APA.
-
Match #4: The Dudley Boyz defeated The APA to retain the WWF Tag Team Championship in 9:27. These two teams fought a very stiff match. Stacy Keibler was absent here, obviously selling Trish Stratus' chick kick from the WWF Womens Championship match. The APA dominated the match in the earlier moments of the contest. Bradshaw and D-Von Dudley began as D-Von did some of his patented headbutts and running shoulder tackles, but Bradshaw did some stiff shots, hitting a few scoop slams, nothing major. Faarooq came in, the two worked over D-Von until Bubba Ray Dudley got into the ring and potatoed Faarooq in the head. The Dudley Boyz worked over the spine, isolating Faarooq before Bradshaw finally got the tag, hitting the Clothesline From Hell on D-Von as he covered but Bubba was the legal man! Bubba then came in and belted Bradshaw with the tag team belt, hidden from the official as he covered for the win.
**1/2
- Bubba Ray Dudley grabbed the other WWF Tag Team Championship belt from the timekeeper, passing it to D-Von as the two Dudley Boyz began to celebrate with the gold, as Faarooq was knelt up, saying 'damn' over his fallen partner, Bradshaw.
- We see Big Show as he's got a bandage around his knee, Jonathan Coachman walking into the locker room and asking Show how confident he is about the Chokeslam match against Kane. Show says that his knee is pretty banged up, so Kane will have to face a loss early-on, and so, humiliation will ensue for Kane, as he will get Chokeslammed very prematurely.
- We see Bam Bam Bigelow with Diamond Dallas Page as the two are discussing the upcoming match in which Bigelow has against The Undertaker. DDP tells Bigelow that he'll be having his back in the backstage area in case Chris Jericho gets involved, as Bigelow just agrees, Page wishing Bigelow luck.
- A video package for The Undertaker vs Bam Bam Bigelow is hyped, setting up their match in several moments.
-
Match #5: The Undertaker defeated Bam Bam Bigelow in 11:40. These two had a hard-hitting performance, I've never seen these two fight before, so it was a first. Wonder if they would of fought at WrestleMania XI if Lawrence Taylor never dropped in to defeat Bigelow. Taker had to settle for King Kong Bundy that year. Bigelow and Taker traded blows in the early part of the match, a slugfest created, Bigelow sending Taker out of the ring, and he whipped Taker into the side of his motorcycle, pretty nice spot. Taker fought back however as Taker took off the top part of the steel steps, looking like he was going to hit the Tombstone Piledriver on the steps but didn't have enough power as Bigelow just shoved him into the ring post. Bigelow worked over Taker as he eventually went for his 'Greetings From Asbury Park' finale but Taker got out of it, went to clothesline Bigelow, but he ducked and he laid out the referee. Chris Jericho rushed in through the crowd as he nailed Bigelow with the steel-chair! Diamond Dallas Page chased him away but Taker covered for three!
**3/4
- The Undertaker began to celebrate as Bam Bam Bigelow had a cut on his skull from the chairshot. Chris Jericho had dissappeared through the audience while DDP was hot in persuit, Taker not noticing but instead heading up the rampway to boos on his motorcycle.
- We see Jeff Hardy wandering around, the WWF Hardcore Championship in hand as he was searching around for Lita, calling her name, though nowhere to be found.
-
Match #6: Kane defeated Big Show in the inaugaral Chokeslam match in 5:52. This was not a good match. Show looked awful, but it was not his fault, as you recall from my 'To The Max' column this week, Show cracked his kneecap on RAW against Jeff Hardy, and so this will probably be his last appearance for a little while. Kane just took many shots at Show, clotheslining him over the top rope, the crowd were into Kane but not interested too much. A tiny 'we want refunds' chant was heard, indeed. Show whipped Kane into the steel steps as Show slapped his big hand around Kane's throat, setting up for a chokeslam only for Kane to grab Show by the throat, both man, choking each other before Show low-blowed Kane. Show nailed Kane with a steel-chair as he grabbed Kane by the throat again. Show got Kane in the air but Kane kicked Show in the gut! Kane hit a weak Chokeslam on Show, right on the floor, for the win!
*1/2
- Kane began to celebrate as he rolled back into the ring and set off his pyrotechnics, heading towards the backstage area, Tom Kenney and Chris Landridge attending to Big Show, obviously his knee messed up, they got him up but Show shoved them down, limping to the backstage area.
- We go to the parking lot as Chris Jericho rushes onto the scene, not stopping just heading to his car. We see him then get laid out by Bam Bam Bigelow though! Bigelow laughs as Diamond Dallas Page appears, high-fiving Jericho and leaving, while Y2J remain on the floor, Undertaker walking up to him and just laughing.
- An advertisement for the 2002 Royal Rumble is shown, it is live on pay-per-view on January 20th!
-
Match #7: Steven Regal defeated Kurt Angle in 16:01. This was one amazing match here, as Steven Regal put up quite a fight against the Olympic Gold Medalist, considered a mole by the fans following the InVasion Angle. Angle gave Regal quite some shots to the head in the early goings as Regal always found a way to fire back, with an uppercut. Stiff action. Regal was worked over however with some fast-paced mat wrestling by the former freestyle wrestler. Regal pounded on Angle however after that, using some of his own chain-wrestling to battle Angle, fighting fire with fire. Steven cut open Angle with his stiff shots, as Angle ended up cutting Regal open with a slam face-first into the steel-steps! Regal began to fire back, he applied the STF but Angle refused to die, even going as far as biting Regal's hand! Regal hit a modified German Suplex for a really-close two count! Angle went for the Angle Slam but Regal reversed into a victory roll for a suprise victory!
***3/4
- Steven Regal took off his shirt as he celebrated, blood streaming down his face as Angle knelt up, shocked over what just happened, and Angle rolls out of the ring, pulling out a sledgehammer as he rolled back into the ring, before Triple H's theme played! Regal stared Angle in the eyes the whole time as Triple H walked down the rampway to boos, climbing into the ring, a sledgehammer in his own hands! Regal yelled at Triple H to hit him, even slapping him but Triple H ended up slamming the sledgehammer into Angle's face! Triple H ripped off his shirt, celebrating with Regal!
- A video package hypes up the finale of the evening, The WCW Champion, The Rock battling WWF Champion, Stone Cold Steve Austin for the unified WWF Undisputed Championship, leading back to WrestleMania X-Seven!
-
Match #8: WWF Champion, Stone Cold Steve Austin vs WCW Champion, The Rock: The End of an Era!
We hear the theme of The Rock play as he began to cockily walk out through the curtain to boos, power-walking down the ramp and walking up the ring steps, climbing onto the top turnbuckle and raising his fist into the air. He basked in the taunt before stepping down and climbing into the ring, then getting on the turnbuckle and doing it again.
The sound of glass shattering was heard as Disturbed's version of Stone Cold's theme played into the arena, Austin marching down the rampway in his leather jacket, black trunks, boots and with the WWF Championship hanging from the grasp of his hand. Austin climbs into the ring, powering his way up the ringsteps as he went to the turnbuckle to taunt as The Rock stepped back in the opposite corner, just nodding his head repeatedly.
The two began to stare each other down as Rock talked smack. Austin grinned, both men getting in each other's way, butting heads repeatedly. Rock slapped Austin across the face, as Austin speared Rock to the canvas! Austin began to bury Rock with punches but Rock rolled over, punching on Austin, the two rolling out to the floor, both men landing on their feet as they continued to trade shots.
Rock eventually blocking one of Austin's then slamming his head into the apron, but Austin blocked it, slamming Rock's head into the apron, and then slamming his head into the steel steps, Rock then having a go, slamming Austin into the steel steps. Rock kneed Austin in the ribs as he shoved Austin into the side of the announce table, running at Austin only to be given a flapjack, chest-first into the announce table!
Austin gave Rock some knife-edged chops, slamming his head into the announce table. Austin went to whip Rock into the barricade but Rock reversed it, Austin ran into the barricade. Rock slammed Austin's skull into the ring post, rolling him into the ring as he continued the assault, Rock then got speared into the canvas as Austin pounded on Rock again!
Rock however, shoved him off, Rock getting up and getting set up for the Rock Bottom but Austin elbowed Rock in the head, kicking Rock in the gut and going for the Stone Cold Stunner but Rock shoved Austin into the ring ropes, Austin coming back to be met with a Lou Thesz Press by Rock, not Austin! Rock pounded on Austin as the two had a stand off, Rock joking around.
Austin shook his head as Rock and Austin locked up again, Austin got Rock trapped in a grapple in the corner as the official forced him to drop the hold, Austin then slapping Rock across the face! Rock went to hit the people's punch on Austin but he blocked and tripped Rock to the canvas, applying a Sharpshooter! Rock struggles as Austin continued to keep the hold locked in.
Rock tried to roll his way out of it, but unfortunately, Austin would get back to his feet and stomp on the leg! Austin picked Rock up and dragged him over to the corner, where he went to slam his head into the turnbuckle but Rock blocked it, an elbow to the ribs of Austin, as Rock slammed Austin into the turnbuckle, also undoing the pad. Rock then got his head slammed into the exposed steel turnbuckle!
Austin whipped Rock into the ropes and landed with a Lou Thesz Press, pounding on Rock until the official finally dragged Stone Cold off of him. Vince McMahon was spotted appearing on the rampway, encouraging Austin to go after him, giving Rock the advantage, but Austin dropped a forearm over the back of Rock's head, and when Rock returned to his feet, Austin gave him the middle finger and kicked him in the gut going for a Stunner but Rock picked him up and threw him to the apron!
Austin landed on his feet on the apron, as Rock knocked Austin into the spanish announce table, laughing about it. He nodded at Vince as the almighty Chairman watched from the rampway. Rock went to dive off of the apron with a double axe handle but Austin gave him a shot to the gut. Austin took off the black covering on the spanish announce table, slamming it into Rock's spine and taking out the monitors. Austin picked up Rock and slammed him chest-first into the table again as Austin dragged Rock onto it, both men standing on top of the desk.
Austin gave a groggy Rock the finger again, kicking Rock in the gut but there, the Rock Bottom connected out of nowhere! The table self-destructed as both men remained on the ruins of the desk. Austin was the first to return to his feet as Vince remained to focus on both men from the rampway, taking a closer look as he walked down the aisle.
Rock was the first man to get to his feet as Austin had a big cut on his forehead, Rock rolling Austin into the ring. Rock taunted as he rolled into the ring, kicking Austin's arm, positioning for the People's Elbow. Rock picked up Austin, Austin rebounding with some punches, going to kick Rock in the gut but he grabbed it, hitting the spinebuster! Rock got up and removed one elbow pad, throwing it down on Austin's face, running off of the ropes, and the ropes opposite before dropping the People's Elbow!
The Rock covered....one...two....no! Austin kicked out at the last milisecond! Rock looked shocked as he questioned the official's decision, determined that it was a three. He turned around and Stone Cold Steve Austin hit him with a kick to the gut and nailed the Stunner! Rock sold it amazingly as always as Austin hooked a leg, one...two...NO!
Vince McMahon threw referee Earl Hebner to the floor! Austin looked up and grabbed Vince by his jacket, dragging him onto the apron. Austin brought him into the ring and kicked him in the gut but Vince shoved him back, Goldberg was there, and he ran into Austin with the Spear! Austin fell down to the canvas!
Vince fleed from the ring as Goldberg climbed out, Rock hooked the leg out of desperation....one...two...three!
Winner and the Undisputed Champion, The Rock (18:34)
- The Rock begins to celebrate as Goldberg and Vince McMahon joined Rock in the ring, the three enjoying a Steveweiser over Austin's body, Vince pouring cold beer over Austin's back as Vengeance went off the air...
