Video games? I don't think so. I'd say the internet has though and has made many people of all ages fat and lazy. I wouldn't say it really hurts anyone's social life or anything though. Usually when I'm on the computer I'm chatting with friends as most live about 15 minutes away and with work & school it's not like you have time to hang out everyday but I always make sure to chill with my friends and keep busy on the weekends.

no. the people that choose to stay in all day are still the kids with no social lives. everyone else finds reasons to get out.

Video games stimulate the mind way more than a television or book (yeah readers, IN YOUR FACES!) ever could.

I play video games while younger, and I did in my teenage years and I also played card games and roleplaying but when i was a kid and still to this day I spend time outside when I can. So blaming an object of entertainment on a game is ridiculous...thing only thing I think new videogames has done is ruined the CCG and RP industries....for the most part kids stay at home and get instant satisfaction at blowing stuff up or killing elves or w/e....instead of socializing with real ppl at a gaming store while thinking out strategies of play for the games....that's the only fall i have seen due to the new internet play and stuff.

Video games stimulate the mind way more than a television or book (yeah readers, IN YOUR FACES!) ever could. I love video games but I don't think most of them stimulate the mind as well as great read. I can't think of much I have learned from video games. Now books on the other hand have taught me a great deal. Now there are the exceptions that are great tales of emotion and wonderful stories: Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy 7 etc. But overall I think that imagining the characters in a book is much more stimulating, at least for me anyway. They are not however the cause of laziness.

I can see where this argument may come from, but in all fairness, a lot more things than just video games killed the society. Changes in opinions, changes that just naturally occur within a structured population, and just basically evolution of what a society does when it reaches higher levels.
But video games could probably be a 2% factor, mostly on the children who then grew up to be adults and parents and so on and so forth. But I don't really see video games being the only reason for kids not going out and playing tball.
I grew up during the 90s and I still was on two bronco teams (kid baseball), my city football team, my high school football and wrestling team. So it's got more to do with parental advisement more than anything. Some parents just don't want their kids participating in after school activities because to them the education is more important.

Lack of parental supervision coupled with growing disillusionment and standard teenage rebellion angst and anxiety "killed" today's society, in the broadest sense of the term.
That's all IMO, of course.
