In a lot of ways, hitler was one of the greatest leaders to ever live, doesn't mean he wasn't a total douchebag. You do know what the usage of the word BUT is for right? It was kind of saying "yes I agree with your statement however this is still true as well." You see how that works? Why would you even mention it if you didn't intend it to be relevant to the discussion? Maybe I don't understand what you're getting out by implying that he doesn't know what but means, but the more traditional way of using but in the kind of sentence you were writing implied that him being a great guitarist made up for doucheyness.
