My guess is that he'll just reappear on SmackDown! next to JR.

Thats what i am hoping. He was the man back in the day. One of the only good commentators in the E next to Josh Matthews.

Even though he's a heel, give the guy a break - if it is his last match ever, acknowledge that. Don't just have him say he quits, because it just makes him seem like a pouty heel. He should have said, I'm retiring - and gone face in front of his hometown, to cut a decent, quick - promo saying thank you to the fans! Thats one thing that use to actually be a cool thing that would occur at Wrestlemania's of years past. A guy could walk into the night as a heel, and walk out a face, or vice versa. Not so much these days, well - not at all actually.
Also - for week's, we've heard of JBL's promise for something huge at Wrestlemania - we got nothing. I mean, just because he quit - we didnt get his promise. Unless he was just going to quit as IC Champ... Poorly produced, intellectually- disabled segment.
Just like Kane beating Chavo for the ECW strap, last year - why even get us excited and book a tag & IC title match, for the first time in years - and we dont even get a real match out of either of them???

JBL followed up his in-ring retirement at WrestleMania last night with a blog posting on the WWE Universe titled "JBL No More, Thank You." Among the more interesting things he said was this bit. "I don't know what the future holds, never say never in life. But I have wrestled my last match. Months ago, I picked out this match. If Eddie Guerrero couldn't be here for it then my dear friend Rey was the obvious choice, and I'm proud he was. I want to thank the WWE for a great career, for taking a chance on me and allowing me the keys to the car for a while. I will always represent the WWE wherever I go, I am proud of my 13 ½ years with the WWE. And, I am proud of the WWE for cleaning up a great sport to make it more healthy to everyone that is a part. However, I have no current plans on doing anything in the future on a professional level with WWE. I don't plan on doing commentary, in fact; it hasn't even been brought up to me. I don't plan on being an on air character. I plan on starting the next chapter in my life, and closing the door on this one." As we reported over the last month, there was a lot of talk that JBL would be at least taking time off after Mania. He has numerous business interests, as well as a job with his wife's finance company. If he is done, he can at least say he went out on his terms.

Huh, I really thought the "I Quit" was an angle to get him out of the ring and back at the commentary desk. JR needs a solid color guy next to him for SD!

JBL was one of the best heels in the last ten years... He did what a heel was supposed to do 'be hated'. Too many heels nowadays want to be the 'cool' heel that the fans end up liking. I grew to be a big fan of JBL's work.
He just wanted to be a part of WM25, his back was in no condition for a big match so that angle was set-up to allow him to compete.
I'd love to see him back in the WWE one day. There isn't many heels left that are better at being heels than JBL.
