I have been debating with alot of friends and i have had a good amount of them say benoit's title reign was boring or lacklsuter etc. am i the only one who thought it was awesome? his fued with kane was badass, the stuff with eugene and hhh was fun and entertaining. it was really nice to see a real wrestler as world champion, the wwe was selling wrestling as its focal point for once. what did you think of benoits title reign and what would you have done different? i have no complaints i just wish it would have lasted longer

Aside from Benoits great In-ring skills, I found him to be bland and boring. Just my opinion, i think thats why Benoits title run was short lived + never got a chance to step up again.

The guy had no charisma and nothing interesting about him. The title chase of a guy who had been wrestling for years and years and was finally getting his big shot was really the only story you could tell. Once he actually won it, it was over. He never had the presence to be any kind of longterm champ. I thought that SummerSlam was too long for him to have had it, but having a boring wrestling robot as champion allowed for the HHH-HBK and the Eugene stuff to not be overshadowed.

Well, he did become rather interesting in June, 2007, yes.

I always thought of him as an intense knowledgable, capabale wrestler, but I never liked him. He was my crapbreaks. He was good, but not entertaining. I understand what people are saying.

I remember enjoying his title run. Boring is the last word I'd use to describe Benoit in ring. He brought more intensity to his matches than anyone on the current roster. I thought he made for a very strong, credible champion.

The build up to his title shot was very well done, plus then the WM trilple threat where he won the strap & then the Backlash defence were very well done. However a lot of that has to be because HHH & HBK were covering for the fact that outside the ring no-one cared about benoit. He was just so bland & boing with no "Superstar" charisma about him at all. In the ring he could deliver like very few others but now that isn't enough to be the champion & the main draw for the company. Fpr example Benoit was obviously far better in the ring than say Cena, however Cena is far better than Benoit was in everyway you assess a top drawing champion.
By the time Orton took the strap I think a lot of fans were happy, it was great that benoit finally got the strap but I think he proved why a lot of people had reservations about him getting the honour

Not to take anything away from what he did in the ring, but outside of his wrestling prowess he had nothing else. The man sounded uncomfortable on the mic his entire career and had no charisma whatsoever. His only appeal was that he worked his ass off and was one of the best in ring performers. Unfortunately, his lack of character was why it took so long to make him a world champion and why he lost it a few months after to a completely unprovn commodity in Randy Orton. In my opinion, Kurt Angle was just as good an in ring technician as Benoit but was incredibly entertaining character wise as well. That's why Angle held the belt more times and longer than Benoit. Benoit was perfectly fine as a secondary champion, but not as the flag bearer. As long as someone else told the story for him verbally, we could focus more on the story he told physically in the ring. That's why his feuds with guys like Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero were so memorable.

Its funny cause if bret hart killed his wife and kids everyone here would prolly call him boring I can't speak for anyone else here, but I found him boring since I first started watching him in WCW. To me, he was like this altered clone of Bret Hart in which he was technically superior, but lacked any and all of Bret's appeal or charisma. I can remember on another board I used to frequent back in 2003 or 2004 in which I said that Benoit would never get either the World or WWE title because he was too much like Bret Hart and WWE didn't want a repeat of that in the sense that Hart was a poorly drawing champion and the fact that Angle was just as good in the ring but better on the mic, so why would you put the belt an someone inferior to one of your own home grown talents? Needless to say they went that route anyway and it still didn't pan out. Benoit being boring is an opinion, one that I and others share. Either way, it has nothing to do with what he did in the summer of 2007.

Benoit's title "reign" (along with Eddie Guerrero's) was the only time I stopped watching wrestling since I started in 1986.
Vanilla midget.
What he did to his family and all that other stuff has nothing to do with the fact that he was boring. I watch wrestling to be entertained and his ridiculously bad mic work and constant belly to back suplexes just didn't do it for me.

Well, yes, Benoit was one great wrestler, but as stated many times before... he was boring. He had little mic skills and never really put out great promo's. Eddie Guerrero on the other hand, did have the mic skills that Benoit needed. Both great wrestlers, and both got a well deserved chance at the title. Benoit just didn't have enough to let him have the title longer and or have a second run.

I guess technical wrestling just isn't for everyone. Benoit had insanely good psychology in his matches, was incredible at selling, and won the crowd over by sheer technique. He didn't have to wow people with his mic skills; he won the crowd over with his wrestling matches. His Rumble match in 2003 proved that, and the crowd responded with a standing ovation, even after he lost.
I was happy his title reign was as long as it was, but it was horrible that his World Championship run was made to look second to the Shawn Michaels-Triple H feud.
