I just found out about Fast Eddie Clarke today. Why did it take me 5 months to find this out? Rest peacefully, Mr. Clarke. You deserve it. The original "Classic three" of Motorhead are all gone now. Lemmy, of course. Filthy Animal Phil Taylor. And now Fast Eddie. It's sad. All the legends are leaving us now... and now we have Knocked Loose...and King "look at us...we're tough...we smoked mother ers in the past because we're hard OG gangsters" 810 left. I feel really scared for the future of metal. Well As I Lay Dying is back. Yes, Metalcore, but Metal all the same. Metallica still goes strong, as does Megadeth. Sidebar, nothing wrong with King 810. One of the best live bands I've seen.

Nothing to be "scared" of. Metal is in capable hands. It's persisted since the 60s-70s. It's not going away.

It's just that I was walking back to the car Saturday all the way over in Burgettstown (I went to my local stop to see them last Thursday and then traveled there to see them on Saturday) and I was thinking "Who's left that's going to play arenas and big outdoor ampitheaters?" I mean, yeah, you have Slipknot, I suppose Korn, Zombie, And Manson still can. But you've got Maiden, Priest, and Ozzy, and soon they are all going to end up hanging it up as well. Well, you say Metallica, well they aren't too far from hanging it up too I'm afraid. Who is going to take the flag and run with it for metal? What band? There's so few left. The record companies have stopped cultivating bands (crap, the last band I thought was going to get there kind of seemed to have been stalled...Lamb of God.) Roadrunner...who used to be THE METAL LABEL along with Metal Blade, has dropped most of it's metal roster. Radio isn't and hasn't played us in a long time...and even the few stations that still do are going away and changing formats (It's all pop and hip hop) Every major market has at least 4 pop, 3 Hip Hop, and 3 country stations, and numerous sports talk, and MAYBE one modern rock radio station. And you are lucky to get good music played. They relegate Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, old Creed songs, and stuff like that to it. I was listening to terrestrial radio going home from an appointment the other day on a rare occasion and I heard "Peace Sells" by Megadeth, "Walk" by Pantera, and Maiden (Of course it was one of the three "Hits" in this case "Run to the Hills") and you know why they played it? "Hair metal Tuesday" HAIR METAL? THOSE BANDS? I'm sorry, it's just frustrating...I know radio is NEVER the way to go with our music and it's all about discovering it on the internet and following it that way and going to shows...but it sucks that there is nobody cultivating true heavy metal out there company wise, and there is no medium other than "Liquid Metal" to do so on other than the internet. I used to go to my local ampitheater at least 2-3 times a summer and the college arena once or twice a year to see a metal show. Now, not even close. I didn't mean to rant, it's just that I'm discouraged with the prospect that our music is being mistreated more than ever.

aggressiveperfectpoorMusic in general is in danger of being hidden and minimized like no time I have ever seen previously. So few places to purchase music, and few places to chat about genres with like minded folk to even find new bands. I mean, Itunes is no longer going to sell music, Best Buy is out of the cd game, forums are a thing of the past, etc. Youtube is ok for new stuff, but a lot of bands seem to make tracks and no albums, and that is damaging. Music will never die, but it may be so underground as to be regional again.

I just got the Blu-ray/CD of Slipknot's Day Of The Gusano for $17 on that deal.

Is metalcore as hated here as it seems to be everywhere else Doesn't seem so. Most of the posters in the thread like it. Not my cup of tea, but I see the talent, and respect anything that gets someone through a day. I do like some of the nu-metalcore mixture like Ded. I like cleaner, non high, vocals that the choruses mix in with the growl/screams.

"The Visionary" Eldniw BSRAre there any metalcore bands that don't use such high pitched clean vocals? Howard from Killswitch has a voice too high for me, as an example.

I wouldn't exactly classify them as metalcore, but Trivium. Though MKH isn't screaming as much as he used to, he still does on some songs.
Bullet For My Valentine is another that screams and doesn't have super high clean vox.

There is some good Metalcore out there, you just have to search it out. I'm not big on -core stuff of any genre (unless it's real hardcore). I also believe that some bands get labeled it unfairly. I'm more of a Thrash, death,Black,Extreme,Power,Melodic,NWOBHM, Classic, guy.

I like the new parkway drive sound. Not really new as they're still heavy as hell but slightly more melodic if you could call it that.

Thanks for the suggestions on the metalcore gents. I have heard a couple of them, and lyrically they hit the spot, but musically it goes a bit too far outside of my range. I will keep peeling and maybe find something I can dig. Cheers.
Edit Instead of 2nd Post: Lyrically nu-metal has been hitting the spot and helping me with my daily issues. What sub-genre helps yall?

I was pleased to see Mortification listed in the Christian metal section. I own quite a few of their albums. The Showdown and Demon Hunter are favorites as well. If you can find it,The Showdown's first album,Chorus Of Obliteration,is a metal classic no matter what you do on Sunday mornings. Lately,I've been listening to a ton of Black Sabbath and Pantera. And Justice For All and Rust In Peace are the two albums I trace my love of metal back to,although these days I call myself just a music head.
