UPDATED 7/26 with pics of the Comic Con display
A few months ago I made a custom action figure of good ole Roy Burns, the Jason imposter from Friday the 13th part V: A New Beginning. Given that I've done a lot of articles for Mezco Toyz (owners of the Friday the 13th toy licensing) and I'm a huge fan of their stuff, I showed it to someone at Mezco Toyz. Apparantely he dug it being as though he asked me recently if I wanted to do a piece for the Mez-it's art show at San Diego and New York Comic Cons! Pretty cool stuff. Nothing to gain...no prizes or anything of the like. Just the idea of having something in the show is a really cool thought.
Basically, Mezco chose 60 people across the country in which they were familiar with their work in some form or fashion. They are getting ready to start releasing their popular Mez It figure line in 6 inch form as opposed to their normal 2 inch form. A Mez it is basically somewhat of a cartoony version of a film character.
This is a traditional Mez-it
Here is a regular Hellboy Mez-it next to the upcoming 6 inch version
So basically, the whole idea of this art show, was to send 60 people completely blank 6 inch acrylic Mez it figures and let them do whatever they wanted with them. The 6 inch Mez its are very similar to Might Muggs. The 60 customs will be displayed at a Mez-its art show at San Diego Comic Con and then New York.
It looked like this when I got it.
We were allowed to mold, sculpt, and alter the figure in any way we saw fit (with a few guidelines not really worth mentioning).
I decided that if it was Roy Burns that got me this opportunity, then Roy Burns would be going to Comic Con
I'm lobbying really hard for them to make some Roy Merch anyway since it's never been done. So I hope this continues to push the issue
I completely molded my own mask this time around. I molded the wrinkles into the clothing , the collar, The ears etc and of course, painted the entire thing. I have some step by step pics that I haven't uploaded from the camera yet. I will soon. But these are a few quickies from my camera phone. So the quality is pretty poor. I just wanted to get something up quick. I had a blast doing this. Spent most of an entire day. It was therapeutic. I love doing this sort of thing.
Here's a reminder of what Roy Looks like
Here's a reminder of my previous Roy figure in which I simply painted an already existing mask as opposed to molding one. I did however, mold the head and alter the attire.
And here's the super cartoony Mez-it's Roy which features a LOT more work done on it. Once again, sorry for the bad pics, but you get the idea.
Anyway, thanks for looking

Here are the progress pics taken while I was working

Here's the pics that were taken as it was being made. I'll try to take some more sometime soon
Pure sex
My mask mold
Smashing the sculpy into place and shaping with...a plastic machete!
Pockets added along with clothing wrinkles
The back clothing wrinkles
Baking the mask
I may take some better pics of the finished product.
