so i know a few people on here live in or around Liverpool, so they might understand better but still. something happened last night that really has me thinking, i work in the ticket offices on the railway and last night i was working in broad green station, anyway not all train stop here so some go through at up wards of 60mph, but last night a train derailed just down the line (about 300 yards) from me, luckily no one was hurt but the train basically fell apart while it was moving and crashed, big accident really and totally destroyed 100 yard of the track. anyway, iv just been talking to the guys who are out there now fixing it and they said that if it had derailed 15 seconds earlier then it would have smashed right through the office that i was working in, i cant stop thinking about it, what if? shocked really, cause the mess is unbelievable, and there haven't been any trains all day.
so to get the ball rolling thats my experience of a close call, have any of you ever come close to biting the big one?

Be careful, death will come back and get you in the order you should have died, I'd watch it.

I was on holiday in Egypt a couple years back, in Sharm-El-Sheik, possibly the biggest sh*thole in Egypt. We flagged this taxi down (big f*cking mistake) and ended up sharing a taxi with some dude, and a burkha-clad woman. So when they get dropped off, guess what the happens? They start arguing with the driver. My only thought is "please don't blow, please don't f*cking blow" and eventually they leave, and we get back to driving. This dumb-ass taxi driver, is driving in the middle of a dual-carriageway at 120mph. Weaving in and out of cars, each lane, not slowing. So he misses our turn, yet doesn't slow. So I think we're getting f*cking 'napped. Speed hits 140, and he almost kills this guy walking his fruit cart across the road, weaving around him at 110mph. He eventually U-turns and takes us to where we wanna go, I'm sat in the front, no seat-belt the entire time (I thought I'd leave that out until the end), absolutely sh*tting myself. So when we pay him the price we agreed, he shorts us some change, about 10 egyptian pounds (£1 ffs). So my wife has a go at him, saying "give us the damn change" while I'm saying "Look... it's only a quid, lets just go!" She keeps arguing, and eventually we just leave without the £1... which I'd rather have left without other than die. We get a taxi to get back to the hotel, and this second one was personally the best driver I've ever encountered. The fastest he went was 60mph when there was literally nothing else in sight. He was chatting to us the whole time and made us feel incredibly comfortable. And that, WF, was the closest I've personally been to dying, and closest I ever wanna go until I actually do flatline. I couldn't take anything closer to the grave than that.

On Monday, if this dipcrapof a kid would have been one second faster in attempting to do a wheelie across the main road at full speed, without looking anywhere...he would have died. Under my car.
Luckily for him, I only crippled his bike. And hurt him.

Three years back I was involved in a horrible car accident. A speeding car skipped the lights on a crossroad, smashed into my side of the car at such a speed that the car I was in was sent flying off the edge of a hill. I blacked out as the car was rolling down the hill, and woke up in the hospital. Apparently they'd done surgery to remove several pieces of glass shards imbedded in my neck, one of which if an inch deeper would have cut into a main blood vessel and killed me.
And that is the closest I will hopefully ever come to death without actually dying.

Where is Broad Green again Not far from the five-ways/Childwall and the Old Swan and what used to be the Jaguar show room. I can't explain it very well because it's not near anything well known.
