Akiyama/Nagata GHC Championship match from '02. My mom was watching a little with me and was cringing at Nagatas kicks, lmao.

Watched most of Dragon Gate's 'Open The Historic Gate' which I recently got from DGUSA.tv, and was astounded at how amazing the matches and the flow of the show was...

I watched the second show "Open the Untouchable Gate" along with the bonus disk which included the first two matches between Richards and Shingo and a match from WrestleJam. I know it isn't a match but the segment with Richards and Danielson was amazing, now one of my favourite non-wrestling moments ever.

I did too, with the exception of the bonus disc, which I haven't gotten around to watching yet...Just my opinion, but I was disappointed with this event for the most part. I can understand the praise for Danielson/Doi and Shingo/Richards, but I don't agree with it.

I mean, I like false finishes and big spots. But they did them like *big move* *pin* *kickout* like five times in a row. It got extremely repetitive.

The Open the Historic Gate show may be the best show from top to bottom I have ever been to. I bet it is even better on dvd since you don't have to watch Scorpio/Kenny.

Yes, thank you, it's good to know I'm not the only who saw it that way. I'm a big fan of realistic and true-to-form selling, and while Davey did this adequately, the match IMO still suffered from these consistent spots and false finishes...Shingo's match against Doi was brilliant at 'Open The Historic Gate' was brilliant, but this... The spot where Shingo lowers his head but is to the side I don't agree with, as Davey (and others) put the brakes on and then kick him in the arm...they don't need to stop and then kick, just do the whole spot as we've seen before...'telegraphing'... As for Doi/Danielson, I really wanted to like it, but it just seemed like every other Danielson match I've seen, where he'll get a body part worked on, not sell it, then unconvincingly sell it later, almost lilke when it suits him...Doi's not too far off of that either... Lastly, I was incredibly disappointed with the 'grudge' tag match between Gran Akuma/YAMATO vs Jigsaw/Quack; the pacing and the stop-start feel of it made me want Quack to save it, but alas, he contributed to it as well...Just my opinions... The Open the Historic Gate show may be the best show from top to bottom I have ever been to. I bet it is even better on dvd since you don't have to watch Scorpio/Kenny. How di you know I skipped that match?! ;D

Watched the first few matches from DG: Open The Spanish Gate from the 'Open The Global Gate' DVD and then the opening match from DGUSA's 'Open The Freedom Gate' DVD.

Davey Richards VS YAMATO, DGUSA 'Open The Freedom Gate'.
Wasn't a fan of this one either, and the whole faux-Danielson thing from Davey came off as dire, IMO...
The 'Salute To Skayde' match was bollocks as well...

Rewatched ROH 'The Battle of St Paul', which was a bit of a letdown, but the standouts to me were Shingo VS Whitmer, Quack's involvement in the 4 team match and Aries VS Morishima...
Why Jimmy Rave got such a big pop I'll never understand, but hey...
