Well, I've always enjoyed Raven-Rhyno for the hardcore title. Quite possibly one of the best matches for that title, and I haven't watched it in years, but it got me to thinking.
What did you guys think of the PPV? I can't remember to much about it, but on paper there were many good things.
#1, the match I mentioned, which has to former ECW champions who quite honestly probably never got as good of a push as they did in the Hardcore division and definitely never got as good of a push as they deserved. At least speaking for Raven.
#2, Heyman and JR on commentary. The pairing was unique and probably one of the best short-lived duos of the last 10 years.
#3, Regal vs Jericho, a feud that may have been forgotten now but was quite entertaining and also great in the wrestling sense in a first... Duchess of Queensberry Rules match.
#4, Benoit vs. Angle, regardless of what personal sh-t these two have made for themselves outside of the ring, this is as good as you get in terms of wrestling inside of the ring.. plus another first with an ironman match built around submissions and you tell me how many submission matches can be exciting especially ones that go near the 30 minute mark?
#5, Shane O-Mac vs Big Show, and this is a case where I'm not naming every match but I name this as one of the many death defying high spots Shane has given us.
And my final blind suggestion is this PPV could have been worth remembering for the huge main event considering the wrestling world in 2001. Dead Man Inc vs The Two Man Power Trip, with 3 titles on the line. 4 big names. Kane, The Undertaker, Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Thats just on paper what the show had to offer, how do you guys feel about this particular show?

Honestly, I think that PPV began the new wave of mediocrity for WWF/E for the next few years. Angle and Benoit was good but they've had better matches, and Jericho vs. Regal was killed by overbooking. Raven vs. Rhyno was the best thing on the show. I remember flying home around that time and remembering "Oh yeah...Backlash is tomorrow". Nobody really thought Kane or Taker were winning the World Title, I remember trying to figure out a scenario where HHH would walk out as WWF Champion.
That whole period/era was really weird and often forgotten, post WrestleMania X-7 but before the Invasion. Still, I preferred it to what we ultimately got with the Invasion.

I enjoyed the PPV. I want to bust the DVD back out and watch it here pretty soon. I enjoyed the short-lived Power Trip. That era in WWE history is just so weird to me tbh. It just seemed the wrestling business was on the decline. I remember being amped to see Austin/HHH vs. Taker & Kane. However, something in the back of my mind told me that Taker wasn't gonna win. Then at Judgement Day with Kane winning, I figured it was Takers night only for him to lose again.

Sorry for the main board post, forgot we had a classics board.
Another thing cool about this PPV was the set. Maybe it was recycled but I've always loved the daggers or whatever those swinging things were they used on the stage. I remember Jeff Hardy swinging off one and hitting a hurricanrana and of course being only 10 I thought that was the coolest move ever.
Like I've said, I remember this PPV vaguely. The main event I can almost confidently say it wasn't great but when you try to hype a match like they did its hard to meet expectations.
On the other-hand I think I enjoyed the Jericho-Regal match because it was meant to be complex and that really had nothing on the fact these two were going to wrestle regardless of the booking.
Angle-Benoit I would have thought and could have sworn was well worth watching but its been so long and those two have had better encounters as years went on.

Fun show, nothing spectacular but definitely worth watching. 2001 is my favorite year in wrestling history, so perhaps I'm a bit biased, but I enjoy watching every Pay-Per-View from that year.
I remember being disappointed with the idea of a tag team main event, but the build for that match was absolutely excellent, which seemed to be the trend with pretty much everything back then.

I went with my Dad, so I'm more biased when I enjoy it more. The main event wasn't good but the rest of the card was fairly solid.

I have this event on DVD, and got to say, it's one of my favourite shows from the WWF in 2001. The first pay-per-view that I think was not too grand, following this, was No Mercy. I mean that card involved quite a bit of filler. But anyways, Backlash had a solid opening six-man tag team match, a great main event, so many great matches that the newer wave of WWE fans should view. Also, on the Sunday Night Heat before Backlash, Jerry Lynn won the WWF Light-Heavyweight Championship. Gold.  |

This show really sticks out in my mind from all of 2001. I loved Shane's huge leap which was much better than the one at Summerslam. A true HS moment!I also loved the cool stage which would sway in and out.
This show seems very memorable as 8 years on I can remember quite a lot of the show. I still have it somewhere on vhs. I might have to give it a re-watch

Its one of my favorite PPV's. I wish I could find the damn thing on dvd for cheap as my vhs is wearing out. Raven/Rhyno was great, Angle/Benoit was good, Shane's leap was amazing, and I enjoyed the main event. Maybe its because I liked the Two Man Power Trip storyline, but I enjoyed it. I love WWF 2001 and I thought this was one of the better PPV's that year.

I Loved all matches Honestly,Chris Benoit Vs. Angle was Match of the Night,The Hardcore match was Great.
AND
It has X-Factor in it so it Immediately is Amazing

That period of time was rather weird. They were pushing the Austin heel turn too hard and it was not working. With The Rock filming a movie and Triple H also a heel you didn't have a legit main event face for Austin to pair off with.
The show itself was not bad though. One thing that always stuck out for me was how hot the crowd was that night. The 6 man opener between X-Factor and the Dudley's had the crowd going nuts.

It is a great card but often forgotten. The period between WM X-7 and the Invasion angle was kind of rough for wrestling and a lot of it has been forgotten about.

I'm bias too because I was there, but I had a great time. My biggest problem with it was that there was so much post WM booking that the first match for the PPV was booked 2 weeks before the show.
