I know this is kind of a current events post -- and therefore doesn't really fit with the classics board, other than the fact that only fans of classic wrestling care about some of those names.
BUT... the reason I am bringing this to everyone's attention is not just because they're honoring Terry Funk. There's another special occasion coming out of all of this.

Isn't Dennis Stamp the wrestler from Texas that Terry Funk wanted to referee his retirement match?

You're referring to 'Beyond The Mat' I presume, 'cos that's the only place I knew of Dennis Stamp as well...He was hilarious, wasn't he? ;D Apter's good value, as is New Jack and Foley...Thanks for posting. |

Isn't Dennis Stamp the wrestler from Texas that Terry Funk wanted to referee his retirement match? The very one. You're referring to 'Beyond The Mat' I presume, 'cos that's the only place I knew of Dennis Stamp as well...He was hilarious, wasn't he? ;D Apter's good value, as is New Jack and Foley...Thanks for posting. If you watch the old AWA reruns on ESPN Classic, you'll also see Dennis Stamp pop up as a jobber on that show, every now and then. I've caught several of his TV matches on that show, and he actually wasn't too bad... even though he was used as a jobber, you could tell he knew his way around the ring and had good fundamental skills. |

lol, that is crazy. stamp was going nuts in that movie when funk was asking him to ref the match. good to hear he's going to be there as well as foley and new jack.

That is a good point. He was a tiny guy, but I mean with a name like Dennis Stamp how could one not become a superstar  It kind of is depressing though, it seemed like he had quite the passion for the business. |
