camera is really close. the pics make it look blurry. but from what i can see it looks a bit sloppy. you need to use a smaller brush, and not as much paint  |

I, too, LOVE Dark Chessman. And the attempt was a good effort. What you should probably do is use Apple Barrell craft paint next time and put it on very thin and just take your time. You can also get very fine tip brushes and that would help with the detailing on the face paint.
I can tell you really like Chessman, because he hasn't had that paint very long. (which I think is way better than the all black look he was sporting) So just go slow, and if it takes two weeks or however, you'll be much happier with the figure you made. Just remember, we aren't in a race, and practice makes perfect.
Something that has always helped me is to just practice painting the design on a piece of paper first, that way you are familiar with your brushes AND with how you'll need to paint to get the desired effect.

I am not sure who Chessman is. Looks decent, some white paint specks on the right side on the chest. Looks a little rushed.

I'm a fan of Chessman (the cookies, not so much the wrestler). Your custom looks really sloppy. I'd recommend taking some shots from farther away.
