For what ever reason i was surfing youtube for old WCW stuff, and came across this. I was wondering was this a real shoot?? At first i thought this was a real shoot, but then i rememberd Rhodes actually got to play himself in WCW for a little while, so i thought then maybe it was a work just to get him to be himself. I dont remember, thought some of you might??

Bobby Heenan was still on commentary in 2001?
EDIT: This gimmick was from 1999 after Goldust left the WWF (again).

So he never actually wrestled as Seven? No he didn't, this was his first and last in ring appearance under the gimmick. The problem was the promos that were airing to announce him coming; which mainly featured Seven looking through windows at sleeping children. His gimmick was suppossed to be this boogeyman but there was alot of worry he was coming off more like a pedophile so they had a Russo worked shoot where Rhodes buryed the gimmick and started to wrestle under his real name.

Goldust ruined his wrestling? He must have realized after this that he can only get over as Goldust. Black Reign wasn't that bad IMO, kind of like a darker version of Goldust, but nothing will ever compare to Goldust during his first run as the character.

Interesting. I remember watching this and thinking is was one of Russo's crash TV-type angles. WCW had hyped Seven up for some time too if I recall.

Good thing they wasted all of the money developing, hyping, and introducing the character (with ridiculous pyro) just for him to kill it within 90 seconds of getting into the ring.
Late WCW blew.

This shoot was planned though and also a few weeks after he benoit and a few others had a storyline where they stood up to the *powers above* until it was scrapped

I was under the impression that they'd built the character.. then Russo took over and shot it in the foot. A shame too.. Seven could have been Dustin's big break...

It's funny that he said Goldust ruined his career and now he is back on WWE t.v. as Goldust! I guess some guys will do anything for money!

LOL I really can't think of how they really would have gotten this gimmick over. What would they have done? Sleeping child on a pole match?

I love how wcw tried so hard to bill him as their undertaker with this gimmick ...you can hear people laughing in the background of this.

Really the whole thing was such a failure. I remember watching this live and automatically thinking of The Undertaker.
Gotta love how they did the whole thing...and then he shot it down in a "shoot" the first chance he got....stupid. I also love how they had him shoot down the Goldust character...which unlike Seven was a good, successful one.
No one ever gave a damn about Dustin as Dustin. Gimmicks is what got him through most of his career. Which is another reason why this is so laughable looking back.

What's everyone's favourite "I DON'T NEED A GIMMICK ANYMORE!" promo? Remember Beaver Cleavage/Chaz/Mosh?

Dustin probably never would have thought the character of Goldust would be so popular and last so long.
