"Wanderlei Silva Has facial Surgery Ruling Him Out For A Year
World of Combat can reveal that the exciting mma superstar and the former Pride FC champion Wanderlei Silva will not be competing for a year. This is due to the extensive facial surgery he has had to remove scar tissue form his face. This quashes the possbilty of Silva competing in te UFC this year against the rumoured opponent Michael "The Count" Bisping.
There have been numerous pictures posted through out the internet where it is fairly evident that the surgery has had a huge difference in the way "The axe-murdrer" looks. In a recent telephone call by World of Combat, a close associate of Silva confirmed that "Wanderlei Silva will be out for all this year and half of next year".
If the initial fight proposed to Silva was Bisping then the UK fans will have missed out on what could have been a great fight. Both fighters are exciting to watch and would have been looking to prove themeselves as both were comming of losses. This leaves the question as to who Michael Bisping will be fighting later this year at the UFC 105 event. Lets hope Wanderlei makes a quick recovery so we can watch this "icon" of mixed martil arts sooner rather than later.
Stay tuned for further updates."

What is the purpose of getting scar tissue removed now? Scar tissue and bone damage on the face (most notably and clearly applicable to this case being the eyebrows) leave fighters more susceptible to getting cut. Getting cut can lead to premature stoppages as well as impaired vision during fights. What this surgery intends to do is remove the scar tissue, shave the damaged (and subsequently sharpened) bones of the eyebrow, then repair the structural integrity of the skin. At this point the procedure is experimental, so as to how effective it is... the jury's still out. Frankly I think maybe a year off could be the best thing for Wanderlei right now. Take some time off, allow the procedure to fully heal, and gather a fresh mindset moving in to the next chapter of his career.

Nick Diaz had a similar procedure done a while back, but I think he just had the scar tissue repaired with plastic surgery. Wanderlei's surgery sounds more complicated.
In Nick's case, it seems to have worked. He used to bleed a lot easier than he has since then.

Didn't he also have the bones around his eyes shaven down too? I remember reading somewhere that they were sharp. A year off for Wandy is good for him. Hopefully he's able to really bounce back and start wrecking people again.

If anyone could use a scar tissue removal it'd be Wanderlei. That guys been in too many wars for a human being to handle.
