Was just watching Royal Rumble 2002 where Kurt Angle throws out Triple H, but Trips JUST manages to cling on and keep his feet off the floor, then of course he eliminates Angle to win - and it got me thinking, I wonder what would have happened if Triple H accidently didnt manage to cling on?
So on to to the broader topic -
Are there any botches/mistakes (NOT injuries) in wrestling history that caused changes to storylines/angles?
Obviously this thread might be mainly rumors and guesswork, since the organizations/writers would have no choice but to adapt the mistakes, so who knows how many storyline-changing mistakes the fans don't even know about.

i often think about this too, like what kinda of on camra accidents could of changed history.
not so much on the subject you was after, instently i thoiught of Rico at some Royal Rumble shouting "hurry up Jeff go damn it!!" as he stood on top rope waiting for jeff to push him off.
didnt really see Rico after that.

Billy Kidman botched the SSP on Chavo (I think) and it turned into a storyline where he was like scared to do it or something. I dont remember the entire thing, but I'm pretty sure it's something along those lines.

Didn't Brock Lesnar hurt Bob Holly and that led to his one and only push to the main event?

I have no particular evidence of such but I've always assumed that storyline following the 2000 Royal Rumble where Big Show complained of The Rock's feet hitting first came from the fact that Rock's feet did accidentially touch the floor.
Also the 2003 Royal Rumble was supposed to come down to Jericho and Lesnar but because of the shot Jericho took to his eye with the kendo stick they decided to remove him and change the plans.

I believe the Booker T vs. Buff Bagwell WCW World Title match on Nitro was such a "botch" that it caused Vince to cancel plans to have a seperate WCW show.. meh..

Kennedy botching a back suplex changed any plans for him to do... anything.

The one that comes to mind is the infamous debut of the Shockmaster in WCW.
After he fell through the wall and his helmet came off (revealing his identity right away and making him a laughing stock instead of an impressive newcomer), WCW continued to use him as a babyface. But they actually worked his clumsiness into his gimmick, so he became a comedy act instead of a serious big-man threat.

I think generally, WWE has done well when it comes to not having to change things due to botches too much.
Cena and Batista botched their Royal Rumble ending, but that was redone straight away.
The ending of the Hardcore title battle royal at WM2000 seemed botched a bit, and they did a title change the next night on Raw to rectify it, I think.
And of course, the main event of Survivor Series '97 had a botched ending from some perspectives.

the 1994 Royal Rumble could have been a huge clusterf**k if either Bret or Luger fell too fast or too slow

Charlie Haas when he bumped Lilian Garcia off the apron. Haas & Viscera began competing over her affections leading to them both turning heel and becoming a tag team.
